  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

R2C Cold Air Intake Interest??

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Ok... My .02. One if the vehicles for my company is a Chrysler Town and Country. Has the powerful 3.8 twin cam. Its CPU does adapt. So does the transmission. Here is how..

For that car only.. With that engine, they use the same filter box as on the 300+hp versions that are in the sedan and pickup. However , to make it "quieter" they use a filter that instead of full filter material, only has a 4" square filter material. The rest of the filter template is rubber like the edge would be. Chokes off the air. I changed it to K&N filter... Amazing difference. The CPU did adjust for the better breathing. Yes, it adds a whooshing sound when accelerating. So what. Picked up real measured 1.5 mpg and the engine and transmission is much smoother accelerating.

Go figure.

I guess I could put in a paper filter that is used in the trucks to get the same thing.

I have had success with the K and N replacement air elements in Crown Vics and many other cars. Did nit work on the Expedition. I never tried a true CAI on the F250-350s diesels. Although people swear by the CAI intakes for them. I never found one that would not suck in hot under good air. I did replace the element on a 6.0 diesel (not the 6.7 one we have), and it lowered EGT, intake temp, turbo spooled up quicker. Improved mileage. Had to clean it about every 5-8k miles. I would not trust it farther than that. Diesels run full air for a given RPM. There is not throttle per say like gas. The power and RPM is controlled by fuel. So, massive amounts of air flow at idle and all ranges. No way the filter can run 50k miles like claimed before cleaning.

Cold Air Intake Interest??

The Genny design is not optimal.. But, no one has a better CAI design for cold air flow and filtering capacity as I experience it compared to stock.

And the CPU adjusts for gas quality, barometric pressure difference, intake temp, and any other airflow items. It would adjust for better power with a better flow set up. This is no 4C Honda.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Is there a 5.0L owner who would like to have the prototype sent out to them to check the fitment and feel on that engine.

To address some of the over the radiator inlet concerns. It was not possible to fit the scoop back on the car after the installation since the smallest bend radius available in 3.5" tubing to fit the Genesis would run into the scoop. All the air pulled is from the location of the lower flapper valve of the air box behind the headlight. Even though during my testing on weekends i have observed an average of 3 degrees above ambient air temperature during daily driving compared to the 16 I got with the airbox installed. Also I commute 110 miles every day fro work and my average gas mileage has gone from 23.4 to 25.9. reaching a consistent 28 during the highway portion.
I am also I am looking into finding a piece that we could include that would fill the void left by the scoop for aesthetic purposes only though.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Sure....what do I need to do?

I will send out the system to you for you to fit up on your car and keep. All you would need to do is just install the system to check that the fitment is the same as the 4.6L. Shoot an email to me at jglass@r2cperformance.com

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Installed the prototype for the 5.0 that John from R2C performance sent me. He designed it based off the 4.6 motor but the fit is perfect for the 5.0. Very easy install. No chance to drive around just yet.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I have a 4.6 and would be very interested in purchasing this

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Nice and I bet the beast will now breathe a bit easier than before.
I'm too interested and I like R2C product since I've installed one in my coupe and it has worked well.
i dunno if our ecu will adopt or adjust like the one in my coupe if it does then adding a few extra hp would be nice.
And how was the installation, including the removal of the stocked intake?
Lastly a video clip with the engine running would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Any change in the engine grawl?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

So wait, I see you said he designed this off the 4.6, and fit the 5.0. So am I reading it correctly this will work on us 4.6 owners? If so how much, or what do I have to do to get one to test it? Would love to get one sooner rather than later.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

13° reduction and 2 mpg. I wish I would have saw this before...my guys are doing a dyno day the weekend of the 19th, could of got some numbers

if you can change your own oil then installing an intake is even easier. just a couple of 8 and 10mm bolts and your done. 1 hour tops to remove and install

definitely a noticeable increase in engine growl. hard to tell if there is any increase in power (probably not) but the sound above 2500rpms is nice and deep. new intake combined with the magnaflow exhaust is a nice combo

Yes John from r2c told me he designed the intake off the 4.6l motor because they didnt have a 5.0 available. he sent me the kit and it fits perfectly for the 5.0

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Perhaps John of R2C will provide a dyno sheet before and after?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Looks nice! Cant wait to see dyne numbers.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Looks nice. skip the sheets, lets get a production run so we can buy.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

As a curiosity, I called R2C a few days ago inquiring as to when/if this would be available. The gentleman I spoke with said that it is in production and we should see it in a month and a half or so. Price point would be comparable to V6 application.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I have a 2013 R-Spec and I am definitely interested. Hope these come out soon. A group buy would be pretty awesome as well ;)

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Same here! Hopefully the 3.8 will get something. Even if it doesnt make a ton of power, it just looks badass!

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I would also be interested in a purchase as I have installed kits in other cars I have owned. In saying that it still would be of a benefit to see a dyno report.:)
