  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

On April 15, acting on a tip in this forum, I ordered an R2C for my 3.8 Coupe from Tunerz Store, same prices as other suppliers but free upgrade to the better filter. Received it today.

A bit jealous because they havent even came out with one for the Sedan yet which boggles my mind

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Initial impression: 1 hour into install I can definitively tell you that R2C shipped the wrong sized couplers with my intake. I have tried relentlessly to get the coupler onto to TB and the other end onto the intake - freakin' impossible.

Really pissed off that I spend this much money only to get the wrong couplers. I mean, the couplers literally fit inside of the TB opening, let alone around it or the much larger diameter MAF that I'm also supposed to shoehorn into one.

Now I have to put everything back together stock and wait for them to ship me the shit they should have the first time.

I guess I'll try and fit the coupler onto the pipe before taking out my stock setup when my shipment arrives.

It'll go onto the pipe, with a lot of exertion. Then, try and fit the other end onto the TB. Impossible. Vice versa - impossible. The couplers are at least .25-.5 inch too small.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

So, after stretching one coupler over another 3.5" pipe and leaving for 45 minutes I was able to get the intake tube connected to the TB. Even stretched out, it took a pry instrument, lots of hand-eye coordination, and multiple busted knuckles to get this bastard on.

Now, connecting the MAF (for us 4.6's) to the other end of the tube is another matter altogether. No amount of stretching is going to get a 3.25" coupler to fit over a 3.75" diameter MAF. Luckily, I had a 3.5" to 4" silicone coupler lying around and that worked in a pinch.

So, everything's installed and runs/sounds great. Not too happy about the incorrectly sized couplers and I intend on calling, complaining, and having them send a proper sized coupler for the MAF attachment.

Here's a pic to illustrate my complaint about the coupler. On the left is one of two identically sized couplers they sent to connect MAF to tube and tube to TB. On the right is a 3.5" diameter aluminum tube for reference. How am I supposed to get this coupler easily over a 3.5" diameter TB and pipe and then over a 3.75" diameter MAF?

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Well..I got my package and found the same BS couplers. Two identically sized ones that will not go over the ends of the pipe and I'm not even going to bother trying to stretch them out and get one over the MAF. I'm calling tomorrow to do some yelling.

Pretty ridiculous, right? No way that's going over the MAF. I didn't get a chance to call at work today, but I did sent a quick email back to their customer service address. Let me know what they tell you.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I managed to fit one end on after fighting with it for 30 minutes but there is no way that same coupler is going to fit on a bigger pipe.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Installed the R2C. No problems whatsoever.

Well they probably gave you couplers for your tube that weren't the equivalent of trying to fit a sock over your head.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Well, good news. R2C is going to make this right. I spoke to a nice gentleman this morning who is going to ship me the correctly sized couplers (admitted they screwed up big time) and also a t-shirt for my troubles. Good customer service.

The issue for me is that this is another thing in a long line of screw ups. It's just one after another. Sending me the right couplers so that I can install the product that was shipped a week late with dishonest follow up from their staff is below the bare minimum.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I just got off the phone with Ed @ R2C and they are sending new couplers my way. I'll say that this part of the process was trouble free and Ed was very apologetic and easy to work with.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

wonder why u cant order online anymore?

I'm pretty sure they sold out of this particular run of intake for our cars. Once they rebuild their inventory you'll see them go up for sale again.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

i think they took down online orders for all intakes

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

I finally got the R2C Intake installed last night. Install was pretty painless and the car sounds noticeably meaner under throttle. It's fairly loud at WOT but still quiet when cruising.

Yeah, it goes on pretty quickly once you get the right sized couplers!!! Definitely sounds pretty awesome at WOT. Better than my home concocted intake I used to have.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Yeah I particularly like the induction sound at low-mid throttle as it has that unmistakable low rpm V8 thrum.
