Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

So for everyone that has installed this intake has any loss of low end torque actually taken place? or hesitation under throttle. Some of the things that were discussed in another post.

I'll have to report back after a week or two of driving. So far everything feels great and I haven't noticed any strange driveability issues but its only been an hour or so of combined driving.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Hi All! Long time no post!

I got the CAI installed today. Also ran into issue with R2C racing but when I called they were very good about fixing the issue. (they were 3 weeks late delivering)

(will update link with pics soon)

Right now I have Sprint Booster, Borla exhaust and this new CAI. The car sounds ****ing amazing!

I'm hoping to get some video this weekend.

I do have a question, how did you work around the hood not closing right? It looks like there isnt enough clearance with the CAI and the left side of the my good is flush when closed. Wondering if I can remove some of that rubber gasket on the underneath part of the heat-shield to get it down further.

Also, did anyone use the red gasket that came off the tube which is bolted to the heat shield? I kept that off but now am wondering if it would have been better to put it back on?

Thank you all for this recommendation. This really brings out that V8 sound!

I didn't reuse the red/orange o ring but I have it saved if I need to install the OEM setup again. As far as hood closing, it will close but there is definitely more resistance on the intake side and I think the hood is lifted there by a millimeter or two. It's not very noticeably but definitely something I was thinking about.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Are you guys getting a fairly noticeably squeal/whistle from the intake under very low throttle conditions? It's most noticeable at low cruising rpm with the passenger window down with limited application of throttle. If I'm cruising and give the car something like 5% throttle and have my foot bounce around between 5-8% I'll hear a whistle sound that turns into a more sharp squealing type sound as I let off the throttle. If I give more throttle, I won't hear the sound and letting off the throttle completely also makes it go away so it definitely sounds like an induction sound that only presents itself under very limited circumstances.

Not noticing anything like you describe and I'm a hawk when it comes to listening for quirky noises after installing a mod. I will add, however, that I'm running a fairly aggressive exhaust setup that could be masking any noise.

I know it's basic, but my first suggestion is the vacuum hose connection. I noticed the supplied black connectors for the vacuum hose was a bit large for this application. I ended using my own. I also noticed the filter was much larger than the tube. Make sure that's buckled down.

Yeah with my Dynomax VT's there isn't enough throttle yet to open the exhaust valves so I can hear more of the induction noise.

I just recently started hearing a noise. I will check vacuum line and intake filter to make sure it is on tight.

It may just be the audible characteristic of this particular intake but I've had aftermarket intakes on several vehicles and while I'm used to the sound of rushing air (similar to taking a deep breath as quickly as possible with your mouth in an O shape) this is more of a sharp squeal sound that occurs for a brief second. I wouldn't mind if it was infrequent but since its happening at low rpm with low throttle input that means I'm hearing that sound just about any time I'm cruising with the windows down. This weekend I cruised down to Half Moon Bay in NorCal and anyone whose familiar with the area knows that HWY92, a popular one lane per direction highway, either turns into a slow crawl or all out stop and go traffic on warm weekends so with the auto trans in D, crawling between 1000-2000rpm I basically heard the intake squealing all the way up the pass as I was constantly on/off throttle. I was playing with the throttle the entire time up the highway once I've isolated the sound without mentioning anything to my wife and halfway up there she asked what the hell that sound was.

Excellent info. Just checked vacuum line all looks good. I'm really not to worried about the sound.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

This car makes an intoxicating sound with this intake, cat deletes, and a quality cat back.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Guys,

Just wanted to state that I ordered my intake on Thursday, and received it today. No issues. I opted for the black nickel coating with the hex filter. Ed took care of me. No hassles at all.

Re: Cold Air Intake Interest??

Cat deletes really make a big difference? I was considering them in the future.

I have only changed the mufflers so far and am pleased with the sound.

The cat deletes make it a bit louder and deeper. Easy to install yourself too.

Can you post a picture of the black nickel? I got the standard black, which is slick. Saw the nickel was going to be available, but didn't see it on the drop down when I ordered.

No problem. Give me a few and I'll post it up.

Wow, that color is beautiful. I like my flat black, but that nickel is really unique.

Here's a pic of mine after they got me the right couplers and I was able to angle it properly.
