  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rear-View Camera Quality

No complaints with the picture quality of the rear view cameras and there is plenty of illumination at night time with the led's.

Agreed.. No complaints here either.

No issues with mine; in fact, it's really easy to spot whatever's behind me! It's as clear as my previous 2013 Kia Optima and my old 2008 Infiniti G35.

Now my mother's Audi Q5 OTOH....well, it's probably the worst of any car in my family in recent memory.

Anybody experience the camera freezing? Got my car less than a week ago and noticed a few times already the picture freezing up while backing up. It lasts only a second but seems pretty dangerous. Also blacked on me once.

Agree about the camera quality overall. Pretty bad quality, especially at night. I just finished renting a ford fusion and the quality was way better during the day and night.

Hi Folks!

I'm not looking to stir the pot, but I'm just wondering what the consensus is on the rearview camera quality on the 2nd gen Genesis?

I test drove the 3.8 with Tech package, and I found the camera quality to be quite underwhelming. The resolution was bad, the frame rate was very bad (slow), and it honestly seemed as though the aspect ratio was being "squished" vertically.

I'm being totally honest when I say: the backup camera on my '09 Genesis seemed significantly better in all aspects, except perhaps field of view. The 2nd gen definitely showed a bit wider FOV, which I like.

Is there a difference on the Ultimate package? It's only available on the V8 model, here in Canada.

I have the 3.8lAWD with Sig. pkg. and the rear camera quality is excellent.

Coming from the rather mediocre rearview camera on my '13 Altima, the one on my '15 5.0 Genny is a huge improvement. No complaints here.

It has much better resolution and contrast compared to my '09 Odyssey and '12 Optima. The wide angle is also useful for cross traffic. I wish there was a feature to clean water off the lens without exiting the vehicle.

I find the camera quality on my 2nd Gen Genesis to be somewhat better than my former vehicle, a 2011 Acura TL.

My 2012 had a much better (crisper) image than my 2015.

The Gen1 camera was clearer as mentioned however the difference is not all the much. I think we are spoiled by high definition TV and 4K to be honest with you. More important is the fact the the field of view on the Gen 2 is improved over the Gen 1 which I really like.

Alright, so I'm not crazy. It's just very unfortunate that such a simple device on such a high-end vehicle seems so antiquated. And why would it be less clear than the first generation?

I also recently drove a new Mercedes C300, and the camera was stunning. Absolutely crystal clear, high resolution beauty. It was like an original iPhone vs a DSLR... that dramatic a difference.

I honestly don't remember the camera on either my 2010 or my 2012, but the camera is waaaaay better than the one in my wife's Acadia Denali.

The screen resolution in my non-Ultimate 5.0 is only 800x400. And yes, the picture looks like mud, but it works. This is why I use my HD side mirrors until I get close to the garage :-)

It's been a while, but I think the resolution from the backup camera on my 2007 Infiniti M35X was a little better, but the resolution on my 2015 Genesis Ultimate is better than the resolution on my 2011 Lincoln MKZ.

The MKZ, however, seemed to have better sensitivity for the rear cross-traffic sensors.

Even on the Ultimate, the camera resolution is not so great and the refresh is a little slow. It works fine, but I'm surprised it is not higher quality since the screen is capable of much higher resolution and refresh rate? Not a major issue, but definitely an area that could be improved...

The rear camera resolution is fine. More than fine for a car which costs less than half of similar cars with the same or worse rear view camera. It's function is to aid backing up and avoiding objects - the resolution and two angle options perform that very well. No reason to see if a coin on the ground is a dime or nickel, so its function over cost done well.

I've been impressed by the quality of mine......hopefully you can do a side by side at your dealer and he can find an issue with yours and correct it.....

The camera quality is mediocre at best. I am comparing to my last Ford Explorer Sport (2014).
