If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I figured there would already be a big thread on this, but I looked and didn't see one. I got a letter from HMA (seems legit has my full VIN on it) saying due to complaints from some customers I can replace my stock Hankook tires with Continental ProContact tires at no charge.

Is this a legitimate thing?
I've only got 5k miles on my Hankooks and no major issues, but is this a no-brainer I don't want the tires to be terrible as they get older and free is free?

Thanks if there's another post please just point me in that direction.

Could be true because some people do not like the high performance tires that are the original equipment.

Interesting, I did receive a card today from HMA but mine had a $50 gift card in it!

OP any idea if you can keep the old tires and the new set?? That would be bestest !

I just received my letter from them as well. I will get these setup after my long road trip I have planned ahead. Now Im gonna burn some rubber :)

Looks like these are touring tires, in that case I would rather just keep the Hankooks.

It would be appreciated if some of those who received these notifications could scan and post copies.

Yea after reading some reviews, they seem to be longer lasting, but less performance oriented and the craziest thing is they seem to have MORE customer complaints of road noise than the Hankooks they are replacing for free due to road noise??? I'm at a loss here, you'd think they'd pick the word's quietest riding tire if they were going to do a replacement program like that.

I think the complaints were about the vibration in colder weather within the first 5-10 minutes of driving caused by flat-spotting. I believe the Hankooks have nylon in their compound causing flat-spotting and they are replacing them with a tire that probably has a nylon free compound and thus not having flat-spotting problems...

That is likely right. Will be interesting to see if only NE and colder climate owners get this offer.

I have an 2014 Equus with 13K miles and Continental ProTouring tires. This car was built in Sept. 2013. I have driven in freeway-closure snow conditions with these tires when new; and found them to be great in snow and ice. I think the "sipe" tread has a lot to do with ice/snow traction. They appear to be wearing well.
I do note that TireRack now describes the tire as "low-rolling resistance" whereas my tires have no such reference on the sidewalls. This tells me that the ProTouring tire is a new design.
I think low rolling resistance tires do "work". I have been using them (Michelin) since they were first introduced. My experience is they get about 0.5-1 mpg. better fuel economy (highway).

My favourite tire is the Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Have these on my Mercedes SL and nothing but praise for them. These are in fact the number 1 rated in their category on Tire rack and conveniently come in the right staggered size for the 5.0. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...r=2015&autoModel=Genesis Sedan&autoModClar=V8

Those have nylon too - so might not address the flat spotting concerns some are concerned about (I experience it in colder weather, but it works itself out quickly, so not a real issue for me)?

"The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced with spirally wound jointless nylon cap plies to provide long-term integrity under high-speed conditions while reducing weight and helping to provide more uniform ride quality."

To clarify I live in Texas so it seems to be going out all around.

Also from what I've seen Continental makes good tire lines, but the letter specifically says Continental ProContact tires will be the replacement.

I'm assuming this model: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ContiProContact

On tire rack they rank 23/35 tires in category, and are Grand Touring A/S.

The Hankooks that come on the car are 5/25 place in category and a much higher ratings of Ultra High Performance A/S.

When I select my vehicle on some sites it doesn't even let you select the Continental saying it doesn't recommend that tire rating (Grand Touring) on my model. I would assume due to Horsepower.

I'll try and call the dealer and see what exact model they are replacing it with, but the letter seems clear, I'm just leery of anything but High or Ultra High performance A/S tires on a car with 450HP.

I have not received any notice yet.

Having issues with Han-Kooks on Ultimate too.
