Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

I'm not at home at the moment so I cannot check...but what does the owners manual explicitly recommend for tire pressure? Mine have been between 40-45 since I bought it and it came from the dealership like that.

Also, I went out of town last week and it was the first time my car has sat for an extended period of time....When I got back and got into it still no flat spotting whatsoever. Drives like a dream. Maybe I just got lucky, but I think the hankooks are freakin sweet and I have never experienced any vibrations or flat-spotting at all. I am keeping those puppies especially after reading everyone's experience with the replacements.

I just checked what it says on the door post on my 2015 3.8 Ultimate RWD.

It's 33 psi front and rear and 60 psi for the donut spare.

over inflation of tires is pretty typical during a routine oil change in my experience...and not with just hyundai service bays. there is no reason to put the psi that much higher than the recommended pressure. it's laziness on the part of the teenager that did it! ;-)

I assume your talking about air pressure when tires are cold. My Hankooks are 33/34 cold and go up to 38/39 on super highways. I do get some tire noise which is why I may take Michelins but I am reluctant to give up handling. That is why I am curious to get reports from those of you who have switched. Are the tires quieter? Notice any handling variations?

Thx

Those pressure levels are what the plant puts the tires at for the boat ride over to the states. You need to reduce the pressures to those noted on the drivers side door post. Your dealer did not prep the car properly before you purchased the car. You should also check your oil level as I am quite sure mine was delivered to me a quart low.

i was simply stating that in my experience service bays tend to over inflate tires whenever i take a vehicle in for service. typically i can tell right away after driving away from the dealership as the car will have a "bumpy" ride.

if that's your cold pressure, you are borderline too high and should take some air out of the tires. door placard says all 4 tires on my awd 3.8 should be cold 33 psi.

Damn, I guess its party my fault for never actually checking. Glad I figured it out now, I've been running wayyy too high this entire time. Thanks for the info guys!!

May want to be aware that any replacement OEM tires may have different inflation recommendations that the original OEM tires (Hankook) which are reflected on the door jamb. Unless the replacement tire plan includes new door jamb stickers, best to check with the new tires manufacturer recommendations.

those of you that have the michelins now...did the dealership change your door placard to reflect a pressure change with the new tires?? my understanding was that 33psi remains the recommended pressure.

Well I thought I would give some insight on the replacement tires that we are getting. The Michelins has been on my car for about a week now. My car has about 3,000 miles on it now and the Hankooks that were on my car were flatspotting bad and hella noisy too. When I dropped my car off for the tire recall and the taillight recall. My dealer gave me a loaded Genny for a loaner with 105 miles on it and had the Hankooks on it. I will say since the Hankook is a performance tire so I did hear more noise from them. But, on the flipside it did ride damn good. Now when I did get my car with the new Michelins on them I will say that our cars are very quiet and I’m talking Lexus LS quiet on the highway. I will say they do ride very well with 34psi in the tires. 35 at the very most!! Anything more and expect a rougher ride whereas you will feel every bump when over inflated. The sidewalls on the Michelins are softer than the Hankooks so don’t expect that high performance handling that you get from the Hankooks. Overall the Michelin is more a comfort touring tire than you get with the Hankook.......

Hmmm... My Hankooks are incredibly quiet (as in wind noise of the mirrors is all I hear) both on the highway and local roads - not sure why some find them noisy??

My new tires have been on the car for about 2 weeks and my prior observation is still the same. Just to note all tires are at 34 lbs just as the Hankooks were.

I personally found the Hankooks to be the most quite tires I’ve owned so far providing the pressure is correct and there is no alignment problems. I did have the tires replaced as per existing tire campaign replacement. While the new Michelins are good tires they are not as finely attuned to the characteristics of the new Genesis suspension. That said I found them to be a bit nosier and provide a harsher ride. Surely not a ground shaking difference but never the less noticeable.

Has anyone been able to get the replacement done without the letter? I took delivery of mine on April 5 and I have not received a single correspondence from Hyundai at all. Just curious...

I was told by local dealer and customer care that you must have letter to get tires. Also told by customer care that all 2015s would get new tires and all letters were to be out 60 days after 1 April. When told I didn't have letter yet, they said to give it two weeks and if no letter call back. Still do not have letter.

Called today to do the other recall (tail lights) and they asked me if I wanted to do the tires too. Told her I was unsure about it and she asked if I had a letter. I said NO and she said they can still do it if I wanted.

Not 100% sure, but I'd ask. Don't think you need the letter.

My dealer is going to do it without asking for a physical letter. I wanted to wait until I got some more use from the Hankooks but ran up on a curb last week and put a gash in one of the Hankooks! Sigh. So my dealer has ordered the Michelins for me and will replace them when they come in,

The Hyundai computers that dealers have access to should indicate whether a vehicle (based on VIN) is eligible for a "campaign" and usually no letter is needed.

I think I am going to drive with the Hancooks for a few months. I will try to get 20k miles out of them first.

I too have received a letter offering free replacement Michelin's. Has anyone received any information re how much time to respond? The letter is silent on that point, and why not drive on the Hancooks for as long as you can?
