  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

I just want to repeat the information that I posted earlier which I got directly from the Genesis/Equus customer support line. ALL 2015s Genesis (V6 and V8) will be getting their tires replaced. I did give them my VIN and was told that I will get an official letter to get new Michelins for my V6, but I guess it is possible that only some of the Hankooks qualify for this program.

I've been following the "Tire Issue" over the past few weeks while awaiting delivery of my 5.0 AWD here in the Toronto area. The vehicle arrived from Korea the first week of April and arrived at the dealer 04/13. I took delivery this past Saturday (04/20) and confirm the following... The Canadian version of the 2015 Genesis 5.0's are now being received from Korea with Continental Procontact TX 19" tires. Interesting point.. Trying to find any details concerning these particular 19 inch tires at any tire distributor in Cda. or USA is like pulling teeth! I just turned in my 2012 Genesis 5.0 R spec. off lease and purchased the above. So far the love affair with Genesis is continuing !

Called Hyundai today & they said the replacements will indeed be Michelin Primacys. I believe; however that the model should be the MXV4

Talked to my service advisor about the tail light recall and he said my RWD 3.8 is NOT getting new tires. I wonder if he was tired of being asked this.

This is the email I received from Hyundai customer service. I hope it clarifies things.

" We are sorry to learn of your concern of the tires on your Genesis vibrating and any inconvenience it may have caused. Hyundai has become aware of a small number of comments from customers in Korea and the U.S. of a minor vibration and slight tire noise on some 2015 model year Genesis sedans. Because this is our flagship sports sedan, we are taking the unprecedented step of replacing all tires on all cars sold with new tires as a means of assuring our customers we will take all steps necessary in guaranteeing their total satisfaction with their Genesis.

Tire stock is extremely limited. It is not necessary to schedule an appointment with your local authorized Hyundai Dealerships Service Department until you receive notification from Hyundai. This notification indicates there is tire stock available in your area. Hyundai anticipates notifications will be sent out within the next 60 days from 3/31/15. We appreciate your continued patience.

Additionally, we would like to notify you that your Genesis currently has one open Campaign. Campaign 128 is regarding applying pads to prevent water intrusion into the rear combination lamp housings. Dealers will perform this service procedure free of charge. We recommend scheduling an appointment with your servicing dealer at your earliest convenience. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

This whole tire event leaves much to be answered.

For a company to replace ALL tires sold because "... a small number of comments from customers in Korea and the U.S. of a minor vibration and slight tire noise on some 2015 model year Genesis sedans", poses more questions. The cost and headache associated with this swap seems like an overreaction if it is not an actual defect of the Hankook's or safety issue.

While those who may have had the issue described must be pleased, it seems like a huge cost to satisfy a supposed small group. Does this reaction to a small minority make Hyundai a standout in the industry - probably depends if you are a shareholder.

Agreed - feels like we are not getting the real root issue identified here. What is the cause of the noise/vibration in some tires? Other than flat spotting in cold weather that quickly works itself out, I find the Hankooks to be very smooth and very quiet, with great grip in dry and wet (average in ice/snow) - so I'd like Hyundai to explain what is wrong with the tires they are replacing.

However, given the quote above,"assuring our customers we will take all steps necessary in guaranteeing their total satisfaction with their Genesis.", I'll definitely be demanding fixes for the headliner and sunroof rattles that have still not been eliminated in my car.

LOL. This is the response I received this weekend.

" Thank you for contacting the Genesis Customer Connect Center. We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiries regarding the tires on your 2015 Genesis.

We apologize that you are experiencing this vibration and noise when traveling on rough pavement. At this time we are not showing that your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is affected by a current campaign, otherwise known as a recall. If you feel that this may be a concern that should be looked at further, we recommend that you contact your preferred authorized Hyundai dealership for diagnosis and repair. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. "

Can you please tell us the "born on" date for your vehicle?

Thanks.

I just went to my dealership for an oil change and I mentioned this to them. They said I was the first one to come in for the tires, so needed to read up on it. Got a call and said they need to order the tires and I would need to come back in next week. I said no problem. When I went to get my car they told me that since I have so little miles on my current tires (6100) I can wait if I want. This isnt a forced recall and from what he showed me, there was no expiration date on it. I said cool and went on my marry way.

That is awesome news. Wear out the Hankook's then go in and get the new tires installed.

I'm wondering if this seems to affect the early 2015's or more recently purchased ones. I bought mine when they came out in May of 2014

Brought my car in for an ECS issue...? Getting new tires as they fix the warranty issue. Exciting...LOL... Not really! Two recalls in less than 12 months. In my honest opinion I didn't think the tires were that bad. But that Sunroof Peal thing. That's the REAL issue peoples! Just saying.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I went ahead and had the Continental's put on. If anyone has any questions please let me know. I'm reserving final judgement until they are a big more broken in, I don't want the be judging the tires coating from the mold process, but if you need type, size or other thoughts I'm game!!

I took my Genesis 3.8 AWD in today for the tail lens recall and dealer knew nothing about the tire recall. They researched it with the regional rep and came back to tell me that the tire program is only a TSB, not a recall, and it is only for select VINS and my car is not included.
Wondering if I make a complaint or two about tire vibration whether my VIN would be added to the program...

If you do, keep us posted about your outcome.

While the tire problem is obviously not a consistent one, I can tell you it is not a mere minor inconvenience. Today my car was shaking on the highway for 3 or 4 miles before the flat spots finally "rounded out" on my 3.8. I had reported the problem to my dealer months ago but couldn't do much about it as I was in Florida and the car was purchased in Canada. I'm very anxious to hear what they're going to do now that I'm back.
