If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

While the tire problem is obviously not a consistent one, I can tell you it is not a mere minor inconvenience. Today my car was shaking on the highway for 3 or 4 miles before the flat spots finally "rounded out" on my 3.8. I had reported the problem to my dealer months ago but couldn't do much about it as I was in Florida and the car was purchased in Canada. I'm very anxious to hear what they're going to do now that I'm back.

I got my letter today - I refuse to believe they are replacing four rather pricey tires for a "slight tire noise and vibration" problem as stated in the letter.

My advice - carefully note the tire sizes you presently have for reference purposes before taking your car in for the new replacements.

p.s. there have been some humongous lawsuits in recent years involving tires, but they are invariably settled under secrecy restraints, and are not too publicized.

I took my Genesis 3.8 AWD in today for the tail lens recall and dealer knew nothing about the tire recall. They researched it with the regional rep and came back to tell me that the tire program is only a TSB, not a recall, and it is only for select VINS and my car is not included.
Wondering if I make a complaint or two about tire vibration whether my VIN would be added to the program...

+1

Interestingly, with only 6K miles, they noticed some wear on the front tires, and did a "complimentary" tire rotation. Note, I do not drive the car hard. I wonder if this is an indication of what may be driving the replacement?

What model and sizes of Continental did they put on your Genesis 5.0?

I received a letter today for my 5.0. It says replacement is encouraged, but not required. I'm a bit torn but leaning towards just keeping the Hankooks.

Amen here - nice to have more information to base a rather impt. decision on. I'm betting there was some sort of litigation issue.

The original Hankooks seem to be ok to me. And this letter comes right on top the recall letter about the tail light problem.

Got my letter today with offer of free Continentals. Did not mention expiration date.

I asked a similar question and they said since it was a courtesy recall it would not be for the life of the vehicle. I didn't get anything exact, but it sounded like it was for 2015 (the calendar year only) and if the tread was gone or nearly gone the replacement would not apply. That's from a service technician so YMMV.

I'd like to get a little more feedback on the replacements before making a move. My letter doesn't mention which Continental ProContact tires.

Just got back from the dealer:

He said the tire issue is a full fledged recall and the tires are ProContact TX tires if that's a help.

For all those asking I had my tires replaced (2015 V8 Ultimate) and they are Continental ProContact TX in the OEM sizes. I know some of the pictures are a little hard to read, but there's some kind of tire shine stuff they put on to make them look good that makes pictures a nightmare. The Fronts are 245/40R19 94W Rears 275/35R19 96W.

Thanks! Did you get yours replaced?

The dealer didn't even know about the tire recall - is going to order the tires.

They have been busy doing the tail light reseal - so are getting plenty of practice on that.

Hope this is it.

Has anyone with a V6 received their letter yet? I have a V6 with AWD and just this week received my letter for the tail light recall. Was hoping to take care of both at the same time, since both look like they will require enough time where a vehicle drop off would be ideal.

Thanks for passing on what you were told.

Quick, please measure the tread depth. See if they short changed the amount of rubber on these special run tires. Like they did with the Hankooks. See if these all season tires have 10-11/32nds of tread. Or you were short changed to 7-8/32nds. Thanks.

Someone with a gauge needs to do it to really get an accurate count, but I'm measuring slightly over a quarter inch, so 9/32 or so would be pretty close.

Adam: How is the ride? Any noticeable difference with the Conti's? Personally, my Hankook tires are very quiet and have been outstanding for me. (5300 mi)

However, I really like the idea of getting a free set of new tires, if the ride is remotely as quiet & comfortable. :)

It's definitely not any louder which I was worried about from reviews, but it definitely floats and feels a little less strapped down in high speed turns in all conditions and during passes in wet conditions (seems to spin for a second before sticking) I noticed neither of these with the Hankooks. Makes sense since the Hankook's were I believe Ultra High Performance A/S and these are Grand Touring A/S.

Neither of these conditions felt dangerous at all, just not quite as laser quick and responsive as the Hankook's more of a touring tire (which is how they are marketed so I shouldn't be surprised)

I went to 3 or 4 websites and didn't see the Cont. pro contact TX's in 19 inch - I hope they are now being made.

It would cause total havoc on a car like this with all the bells and whistles to put the wrong size tires on.

Hmmm.....that doesn't sound too good with all the rainy weather in Houston. Not that I speed in the rain. hehe That gives me something else to consider. Ugh...

Since the Conti's are A/S tires, how do they aesthetically look on the car? They look pretty good from your pics. I definitely like the low profile look of the Hankooks.
