Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

I went to 3 or 4 websites and didn't see the Cont. pro contact TX's in 19 inch - I hope they are now being made.

It would cause total havoc on a car like this with all the bells and whistles to put the wrong size tires on.

You can see from Adam's pics that the new Cont's are 19's.

You will not see them listed for sale anywhere, but the new Continental's match the OE tire sizes exactly. Due to the nature of the recall, and the fact they will place them on the new cars coming in they are supposedly buying 100% of the stock of these tire sizes for the foreseeable future. They are the Continental ProContact TX though 100% without a doubt since they are on my car and stamped right on the sidewall.

Hmmm.....that doesn't sound too good with all the rainy weather in Houston. Not that I speed in the rain. hehe That gives me something else to consider. Ugh...

Since the Contis are A/S tires, how do they aesthetically look on the car? They look pretty good from your pics. I definitely like the low profile look of the Hankooks.

The Hankooks I had were A/S as well. The tire dimensions are identical so I don't think they look any better or worse to the Hankook's to me I think the 2015 models have amazing tire dimensions compared to the 2009-2014 and this doesn't change that opinion. (I also own a 2012 R-Spec Genesis)

I will post this again, since this thread is about re-hash stuff that has already been resolved.

Here are the tires for the V8. They are still being made. They are listed as OEM tires for the Genesis by TireRack.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...arRatio=35&rearDiameter=19&rearSortCode=57751

The link does not lead to the tires in particular. Regardless, yes the Ventus Noble 2 is still being made however the 275/35-19 which is the stock size on the rear of the V8 has been discontinued. In fact, it used to be listed as available and discontinued however now it is not even listed. Interestingly enough, a new Ventus V12 Evo2 in the correct size by Hankook is now available. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...R9K120XL&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

Ooops, I guess you were linking to the new Continental TX in the correct size which is now listed on Tire Rack as the OEM tire. I see they call them "ContiSilent" Guess they were developed to be quiet or at least this is what they want us to believe. A little odd, the fronts are more expensive than the bigger rears? Here is the link. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...r=2015&autoModel=Genesis Sedan&autoModClar=V8

TireRack already has the Michelin MXM4 listed as OEM for the 3.8L, along with the Hankooks. What's really encouraging is the customer survey numbers are close enough between the 2 tires as to be identical.

If you click on the link I supplied it shows ALL tires. On the left is a button labeled OEM. This takes you to these exact tires being discussed, the Continental TX tires. The sidewall on the tire picture is an exact match for the tire pictures posted on this thread. They are labeled

Original Equipment New
CONTINENTAL
PROCONTACT TX
Grand Touring All-Season

Yes, they have a sub-title of ContiSilent, although I don't know what significance that has. Sounds like a marketing thing.

For anyone who cares to take the time, there are user comments, sortable by brand of auto, etc. and there are test results.

From all the data, these do not appear to be tires that are anything other than pretty darn good and generally above average or well above average.

B.P., you and I are both happy about the MIchelins showing on TireRack.

I know there is still a lot of confusion in this thread on whether the Hankooks are going to be replace or not, but if anyone read the whole thread there are two statements that say that all the V6's will get Michelins of a fairly recent design.

Some people have noted that they are not covered under the recall; there is no recall yet for the V6. Others have been told that the replacement is a TSB and they are not covered under it. There is no TSB that I have seen.

There are a lot of words and worries, but my take is that Consumer Reports were told by Hyundai that all tires would be replaced, and CR rarely gets things wrong.

The people are getting answers that their VIN is not covered does not surprise me. AFAIK, nobody's VIN on a V6 is covered because there is no document.

And if anyone thinks that Hyundai can pick and choose VIN's for tire replacements would require them to have a supply-chain-management system that other auto mfr's would die for. I don't think they have a record of what serial number is on each tire of a particular by VIN.

Looks like contisilent is real technology and in use on the Audi RS7 one tires. I think I might just be making a trip to the dealer to try these new shoes on for size...

Someone with a gauge needs to do it to really get an accurate count, but I'm measuring slightly over a quarter inch, so 9/32 or so would be pretty close.

Quarter inch is 8/32nds. Which means they are short changing the tread again. Will the Hyundai ever learn? This cuts at least 10-15k off tread life (assuming driving A/S casual) and saves them a few dollars per tire. We get the shaft.

8/32" is quarter inch... So, if quarter inch, these "replacement" tires for mid performance A/S would normally have 10-11/32s possible 12/32nds. Which means this special run of these Continentals are under sized with trend depth, saving a few shekels? This has been a common practice among some makers who contract "OEM" tires that have up to 40% less tread depth to save costs per car. This cannot be denied. And others on this forum have seen this.

So far, I have not found definitive specs for retail tire store production tires tread depth on the TX.

The problem for the tire makers who agree to this... Puts a bad taste with the consumer when they wear out in 18-28k miles. Michelin is reported NOT to cut deals like this and will only seek to car makers full tread depth tires. My 2012 5.0 has Michelins that have lasted 37,000 miles, and still have 6/32nds on three and 5/32nds on one tire. And they are still quiet. With other Gennys that had Dungflops, or whatever that had 8/32", people complained they were done mostly between 18-24k miles. And noisy as heck. When I picked up my car new tread depth, the tears were at 10/32", fronts 11/32". Dimples with little tails smoked off the rears. Someone had done some burn outs with it on a test ride or "manager overnight" it would seem. Point is, real tires, we see the long term results.

I bought my 2015 with 11 miles. Dimples and little tails still on all 4 tires. Hankooks were at just under 8/32nds all the way around.. The slight of hand under tread tires are on 2015. Looks like the same for Continental.

Measured Bridgestone Serenity Plus at Firestone store Saturday. On display it is between 11/32" and 10/32".

Anyone already have their tires replaced on 2015 Genesis yet?

So now that you have had new rubber for a couple of weeks now do you have any comments good or bad?

DRS - thank you for a new word in my vocabulary: Dungflops.

I have had two sets of Dungflops in my life. The first set included 12 tires in less than 4000 miles (all dealer replaced) because they either could not be balanced, were out-of-round, and developed sidewall bubbles. I will never forget pulling the wheels and tires off the car and rolling them free; it was like watching a drunk try to walk a straight line, except for the one that wobbled so badly that it immediately fell over. I plan to never own another Dungflop in my life. Now I have a term to describe the tire. Thanks for that.

Yes I have the new tires on my 2015 V8 Ultimate. I answered a lot of questions and posted pictures on page 11 of this thread...some common answers...

-Yes they are Continental ProContact TX tires
-They match OEM tire sizes exactly and look and fit nicely on the car
-The reason it is hard to find the rear size Continental online is Hyundai is currently the exclusive purchaser to handle the recall
-The tires are quiet similar to the Hankooks after they were warmed up and flat spots were gone
-They are clearly more of a touring tire than a ultra high performance tire they float through turns more and spin a bit before getting a strong grip in anything but hot dry conditions

Overall they aren't a bad tire,'but I'm still uncertain why the Hankooks had to go. I'll be happy to answer any other questions.

When you realize your first statement is false, then you'll have the answer to the second.

No need to be cryptic this is a thread to share info about a recall primarily. I'm just here to try and help. Other people have far better expertise than me I'm just going by what I'm told and what I see/feel.

I figured there would already be a big thread on this, but I looked and didn't see one. I got a letter from HMA (seems legit has my full VIN on it) saying due to complaints from some customers I can replace my stock Hankook tires with Continental ProContact tires at no charge.

Is this a legitimate thing?
I've only got 5k miles on my Hankooks and no major issues, but is this a no-brainer I don't want the tires to be terrible as they get older and free is free?

Thanks if there's another post please just point me in that direction.

I got the recall notice to take my 2015 5.0 Genesis in to have new Contiprocontac. Tires put on. The letter is very specific and it has my VIN number on the letter. I don't want to throw away these nice Hannoks that came with my car? I've got 9,000 miles on them. Guess ill wait until my next service job and have tires changed out? I've had no problems with the Hanooks.

Hey Adam61, thanks so much for the feedback!

I just want to add that the tire replacement is optional. If you're happy with your Hankooks, it's not mandatory to switch. I'm still undecided on whether I'll get mine switched out, but I'm leaning towards not doing anything as my current thinking is I'll trade 10 minutes of cold-weather bumpiness for wet-weather handling.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Just ordered a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Will tell you how they work out. :D

If you're getting some Extreme Contacts, are you paying for them, or is this the dealer doing it to replace the Hankooks. I assume you have the 2015 Genesis 5.0?

You are welcome. Love the image "like watching a drunk try to walk a straight line." And "wobbled so badly they immediately fell down". That congers up a image of Weebles who wobble AND now do fall down. :)

I am not sure about this combo of Hyundai and Continental short changing tread depth and going A/S typical tire. And the Continentals that came on the Expedition as OEM were below average in grip, lack of ability to be balanced, far worse in wear, noise, than the Goodyears have been running on it ever since. If it were not for good ratings in here on the gumshoe model Continentals (R-Spec drivers), I would be concerned enough not make the change out. Unless I had a V6 version covered that we hear are getting Michelins.

Wonder if Hyundai would take their actual costs for the Conti, and hand out as a allowance for customers to choose their own proper rated tires?

Your research shows good feedback coming from users of this TX I Conti. Appreciate that. Hey, they are free, so I should not be so picky?
