  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Retrofiting a UNAVI Navigation System

Are you interested in retrofitting your OEM Navigation System over to a UNAVI System

David any installers in the LA OC or Ventura area that you recommend? I have a base 2013 model and really starting to get interested in the Nav Unit.

Purchased a 2012 3.8 Genesis sedan with 30K miles in October 2013. I had an issue with the NAV system took it to the dealer who said it was not a OEM unit.
I made a couple of calls to the dealer from whom I bought the car (not a Hyundai dealer) who told me that they had a local AV company install the NAV. I called this company and they had me go to the car to find out what model/type etc. This is a UNAVI 8" system. The OS was locking up. they had one of their techs (in a fancy SUV service vehicle) come out to my office to check out the system. The install was not done correctly. He corrected the installation and made sure that the USB/memory card port was accessible. He gave me a number to call UNAVI support while he was working. I got an updated OS download did the install and have been very happy ever since. The dealer likes the UNAVI unit and has complemented me more than once. More than likely that is why the price of the car was so cheap compared to the same year with the technology package. I paid 20K for a 2012 in October '13.
So far no complaints other than I need better tires. They had new Dunlop Signature tires so I will wear them out before I buy the Michelins that I had on my Azera.

2yrs later did any development happen with the 2009+ DIS tech pkg systems?

Well, you can take off the development of a Unavi for Tech pkg systems. Got this email reply directly from Unavi:

Hello, Thank you for your question. We were interested in developing a system for the model you are asking about however when we look into designing a system like this the demand has to be large enough for us to invest in and unfortunately we just didn’t have many customers asking for it. We have moved on to developing newer features in our current models since the Genesis Sedan has been removed from our lineup due to Hyundai including navigation in all Genesis Sedans. I wish we had a solution for you however we just don’t see being able to sell enough to make it worth the investment. Sorry

Regards

Gentlemen

Yes we here at UNAVI USA looked into developing a retro fit system that would replace the factory DIS System with our Navigation System and after a long discussions with our Korean Engineers there is simply not enough demand here in the States for us to move forward with the development.

I'd be interested because it would seem that a map update will not be made available for my 2013 Premium Genny. The maps that are presently in it are badly out of date and poorly done. Hyundai addressed their fuel mileage claims issue, wish they would do the same for this issue. They didn't tell me before I handed over my cheque that the GPS function was out of date and wouldn't be updated. A person just assumes that the system will work and be reliable and useful for the life of the vehicle. I was wrong. I have no issues with the rest of the car but this one ticks me off.

I have a '12 3.8 Prem/Tech Genny, and I would like to do something to upgrade the in-car nav system. It COULD be DIY IF you could get the software discs, and a battery charger to keep the bat up while doing it. But Yea, Hyundai really screwed this up and didn't tell us that it would cost $300 per update. Ticks me off as well.

We would like to reach out to the Genesis Owners Community as we have been asked many times if our Navigation System can be installed in a Genesis that has existing OEM Navigation. As our current system is only for non-navigation cars we have talked about this here at the office and I'm sure that it can been done we just need to have enough interest in moving forward and developing a system that can retro fit our Navigation System into a Tech or Touch Screen Equipped Genesis. As for pricing this we can not answer at this time since its very early to know what would be involved or needed. I do know that we if we do move forward we will need a local car for testing, If there are any members that are local to the Brea CA area, please contact us in regards to using your car for testing when its needed.
I live right near Brea California and would be willing to help

I just purchased a 2013 Genesis Sedan with the base package, no GPS. I want to do a stereo upgrade in the car. Has anyone had any success with replacing the headunit since it is running the controls for other parts of the car I am hesitant. I only want to replace it because when you bluetooth your phone to it, which is awkward, you still have to control the music through the phone and not through the car controls.

I have a 2012 sedan 3.8 with a standard 7 speaker stereo. I am only aware of the 7" OEM Nav system and would like very much to upgrade to that system at the very least. However if there is an upgrade from that Nav system then I'm interested especially if there is at least a 5 band equalizer or more and Android capabilities. Just leave out the Speed Sensitive Varince Control because I am in charge of the stereo and volume not the car. And a rear backup camera option in the stereo is a thought.

Good day Gentlemen.

I need to apologize if anyone was confused about the poll, what we are trying to gauge as who would be interested in retrofitting our newest X5 Navigation System into their Sedans that have the OEM Navigation System.

Now we are also trying to gauge as to how many of you that are interested have the following:

1) Technology Package - DIS
2) Premium Package TouchScreen Navigation.

All questions are welcome.
Hello, I have a 2011 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 4.6 with the touchscreen nav. The screen has failed. I realize this is an old feed but wonder if there's a new plug play system yet?
