Rough Ride (rear)

My V6 was plenty bad. The other members V8 I drove was not jittery, but was ridiculously floaty. Hyundai hooked my car up to all sort of machines, while I drove around for a week but declared it all "normal for the car."
BTW it's spelled acceleromoter

Date of MFG 4/19/09
Has the Premimum Plus package.
Changed the wheels from the 18 inch stock to the 17 inch stock (some improvement)
Tire pressure 32psi ( some help)
Considering change to the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity (hoping)

I have owned many new cars that ae lux riders:
Mercedes 2000 S
Infinity M35
Volkswagen Phaeton

They were al smooth compared to the Rough and Harse riding vehicle.
I am a Automotive engineer lots of experience riding and testing. This thing has an excessive stiff set of springs and Amplitude selective Dampers
both should be change but maybe just the damper will do it.

I am trying to get the new tires next and looking where to find the dampers.
By the way the V8 is worse Period.

Don't meand to sound uppity but I have comcludes an extensive set of driving test and put my money where my mouth is by buying the 17inchers anfter paying an extra grand for the 18 inchers just to get some improvement.

So I am a bit put out by all the trouble, I have an acceleramoter package that i plan on installing on the rear seat and sending the data to Hyundai. My experience is that we don't stand a chance of any free fix at best some ability to buy stuff from parts after the 2010 have been out for 6 months.

To the point I trust my own technology and data as compared to others. I will be using a 90% male crash dummy with 3 way accels in chest and head for the test ( did a lot of air bag design before I got old and died.)

The Culprit that I strongly suspect is the ZF Amplitide Seletable Dampers which I hope will be the only changes for 2010. Unfortunately the term selectable does no me "User" selectable. rather a set of orifices where one close for faster excursions, methinke they got the bias spring set a lot off.

It's actually Amplitude Selective Dampers, not Selectable. And they're used on the new C-Class w/ no issues that I know of. Maybe we should check some MB forums?

Had my 17 year old with me and had him drive home from dinner and drinks Was first chance to sit shot gun, I loved the ride, but my wife in the back was complaining the whole way that the back seat was a rough ride (mainley over speed bumps driven by a inexperienced driver)

I would like to start by repeating what I have posted before. Unless you are on a road as smooth as glass the ride is unacceptable. Now for my question, being a V8 owner does this mean that both the transmission and the suspension are a product of ZF Sachs engineering? If I’m correct wouldn’t they want to have a voice in the final product? If it was my reputation I would want to be involved. Am I wrong or not understanding?

I've had my Genesis for 6 weeks now, build date 12/08. I am so fed up with being shaken up by the ride. I've put 17" wheels on it and replaced the tires with Goodyear Assurance Comfortreds in an attempt to improve the ride of this ox-cart. I've played around with the tire pressures, but nothing seems to help. I am ready to trade this thing in for a Honda Accord, or something that rides like a car.
This is totally unacceptable. Our SUV rides better than the Genesis.
Hyundai, you have to help us out. You need to come to the table with a fix. Your engineers GOT IT WRONG. This is not a firm, sporty ride as advertised, it is a badly controlled ride and the suspension needs to be sorted out.
This is my first Hyundai, and if I end up dumping it and taking a bath, I will not buy another Hyundai product again.

Picked up 4 bags (50lbs each) of top soil and load them in the trunk of my V8/Tech for the garden today. Boy, the ride was much better with 200lbs in the trunk. I really think the rear shock/springs are too stiff for the Genesis.

I feel for you - you may do best to find another ride. Painful financially, but makes driving to work much more pleasant.

Maybe dirt works better than salt. I used 160-200 pounds of salt in the trunk and sometimes the passenger well for comparison. In the long run (for me) it only had a minor effect at best.

I think the ZF Amplitude Selectable Dampers are the problem. On smooth roads the ride is smooth. The occasional bump is handled OK. Go over a series of bumps and the shocks seem to become rigid very quickly, so every successive bump is amplified. Has anyone noticed that the ride seems to be smooth after the car has been at rest for a while, but it doesn't take long for the shocks to "pump themselves up"?

Also, there is a problem with rebound control. The shocks don't rebound progressively. They hang on to their compressed position so the vehicle is "pulled down" after hitting a bump, so the problem is being compounded through stiff compression and a slow rebound reflex.

If this is the problem, it should be a relatively inexpensive fix. Hyundai are you listening? Remember that it was the initial buyers of the Lexus LS400 who developed the LS400's reputation, and Lexus was built on that. We are the pioneers of the Hyundai luxury brand. Now is Hyundai's opportunity to show the world and their customers that they take our issues and their product seriously. Take care of us and the brand will prosper. Blow us off and the word will spread very quickly. Who will buy an Equus when they realize that the Genesis is having suspension issues?
Many people stop me in parking lots and ask me about the Genesis, and I am cautioning all of them to check out the ride before committing. I wish someone had warned me.

I have a feeling the Hyundai Genesis suspension will get softer as the years go on.. Hyundai needed the car to handle exceptionally well for the media to take notice. Unfortunately, the automotive media are mostly driving "enthusiasts" who prefer a stiffer suspension over a softer one.

So.. If it weren't for this stiff suspension, most Genesis owners would probably not own a Genesis at all. It's all the positive reviews that made you interested (in most cases, anyway). It's how word got around.. But I do feel that there are enough complaints here about the suspension that it's probably too stiff for the "average" driver who wants a car like the Genesis.

Called hyundai today got a Genesis team member (Gary) on the phone (Michael no longer there) Explained the situation re. my change in wheels(18-17) and desire to change tires. He discussed that I am moving in the right direction. To ease the harshness. Lower pressure is minor minor help.

Smaller rims, softer compound ( Touring not grand touring) Larger ratio 60 from 55.

They know of the problem New vehicle in September Change in rear shock is the suspision, ( I'll order them then. )

Realy don't understand, they know they have a problem with the rough ride in rear and the new 2010 comes out in sept and a vhanges in rear suspension are in his suspision. (possible) nothing more to clarify if you have a specific question I will try and answer it, if I can.

Media and Journalists like "Stiffer" suspension.
If HMA change suspension as soft, then genesis will not selling well in north america.

See. Motoring Journalist says, Genesis suspension is too "soft". They pushing genesis as stiffer suspension.

Everyone I heard from at Hyundai said that the 2010 Genesis will not be noticeably softer than the 2009, but it will ride much better on problem roads.

As the the Car and Driver video review of the Genesis has pointed out, BMW's and Infinity M both have a firmer ride than Genesis, but do not have the same suspension problem. It is not as simple as soft vs firm, and I think that the auto press and most current owners will approve of the 2010 changes (unfortunately we don't know if current owners can get the changes).

I finally got to ride in the back seat yesterday and I was SHOCKED to find that the ride was noticeably smoother in the back. Honestly, it was a very relaxing and cosseting experience (the back seats is super comfy).

It really is strange how many differing experiences Genesis owners are experiencing. I've never experienced anything like this before.
