  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Samsung Galaxy S4 bluetooth connectivity

I am currently eyeing the HTC One to replace my iPhone 5. Any HTC One comments out there?

I love the iPhone, but feel that I need a slightly larger screen, as well as to eliminate the hard home button key (arthritis). Rumor has it that the HTC One is coming soon to Verizon, so I will be patient. I have already heard the great stereo sound on the HTC. Very alluring.

I picked up my H1 on TMo last Friday and am loving it. Never owned an iPhone so I can't say anything about the switch, but I had the original G1 then an HTC Sensation as my last phone. I root my phones and flash/swap custom ROMS so I know my way around the Android OS. Sense 5 is alright, but frustrating for someone that wants full control like I'm used to. Hardware wise, this thing is a beast and insanely fast - no lagging or transition stutters. The speakers are exceptional for both calls and music, the only downside to them is the that the lowest ringer volume is actually still pretty loud (I have a workaround for that though).

Back on topic, my HTC Sensation would do the same thing someone else said here. Connect fine, but randomly drop connection with my '10 4.6 Tech. No issues with the H1 like this. It connects and stays connected. Handles the swap from music (via my Monoprice BT receiver) to calls via DIS and back to music without issue.

I put in an NFC sticker last night in my G and programmed it change ringer and media volume as well as toggle BT on/off. Works like a charm, but interestingly enough it would not work when I placed it on the metal trim around the center stack. I think the metal of the trim threw it off. Works fine on the leather to the left of the stack though. So simple to program with NFC Task Launcher and feels so futuristic just waving your phone over the sticker and having it change things automatically.

Thanks. Never heard of NFC stickers before now.

It has to be a problem with Samsung. I also just recently purchased the galaxy S4 and though S3 i previously owned worked the my car bluetooth, the S4 has completely not worked and this is soooooooo frustrating. it finds GENESIS during scanning and when i try to pair, It comes back with an error message 'unable to communicate wit Genesis". It would be nice to find a solultion to this else the phone will have to go.

bammyt you don't say what year your Genesis is. Have you had the GPS updated? There is a disk load of firmware updates included with the GPS update. (I have not had an issue with loss of audio or "un-checked" surround sound since the GPS update). My S4 works flawlessly with my car. I think the GPS/head unit firmware update may have played a part in the issueless paring and use of my Galaxy S4 in my 2012 Genesis 3.8 tech. Too bad there isn't some official Hyundai contact who could shed some light on this issue.

Spoke with Samsung. They advise that the S4 is running the new version of Bluetooth and the s4 will not work until Hyundai updates the software in the car. I have a 2013 Genesis.
Is anyone aware of any updates from Hyundai?

rlo1056 as I reported in the previous post there are updates but since your's is a 2013 I would assume you have the latest updates. Again my S4 is working and I can only guess that the reason I haven't had any issues is because I updated the GPS (it comes with head unit firmware updates) prior to using the S4...again that's just a guess.

My Samsung S3 works perfectly in my 2012 G but I will soon be able to upgrade to the S4. I'm not sure what to do now. It seems almost everybody with an S4 is having problems.

It's frustrating to hear the G can't handle the #1 selling phone in the world made a a fellow Korean manufacturer. What on earth is the matter with Hyundai?

Its not Hyundai...its Samsung and their new technology. You can't expect Hyundai to anticipate what new Bluetooth software is coming out for the future. Samsung is not working in a lot of cars. My wife's 2012 Mazda doesn't work with her new s4 either.

Does your employer pay for new phones each year etc.? I got the S3 when they came out and I couldn't imagine getting another new phone since the S3 hasn't been out that long. The latest and greatest also come with new problems too.

I have the opportunity to switch from Sprint to ATT. I'll have to return the S3to Sprint to avoid the early term fee. I travel internationally often and would prefer the ATT version so I can take it out of country and buy local SIM cards in the countries I visit. Thought I would get the S4 but now I'm not sure. The S3 works beautifully with my 2012 G with Tech package.

Is there anybody other than Vince2 that is not having trouble with the Samsung S4 in the G? if a few others say it works I'll go for the S4.

No its a Samsung issue because the phone is not backward compatible to older software. People don't buy new cars as often as new phones. Phones should be compatible with any car Bluetooth no matter the age of the car.

I am also up for a new phone and was looking at a S4. I'm also looking for some correlation between year of genny, type of option package and work/ not work of the S4. I can say that my 2012 R spec is iffy with my evo 4g. Quite often, the bluetooth has to be toggled on the phone to get it to connect.

Samsung Array-drops blue tooth connectivity, then reconnects and drops calls.

FYI-I have a Ford Taurus rental this week. Has Sync. Connected my phone, no dropped calls and it connects every time so far without fail. Go figure.

The Ford rental has newer software than a car 2 or more years older.

I have to now agree that this does seem to be a Samsung issue. Could an Android update fix it or is it a hardware issue? I still love the phone and my car. I just find it hard to believe that this could be a backward compatibility issue. Not doubting my quoted friend, just questioning the company's decision to do something like this. What about those old Bluetooth ear pieces? Does this GS4 work with one of those?

It's most likely software. I've been looking but haven't found a confirmed fix yet on XDA-Developers. The only things I've found are a root/flash of a custom kernel and/or ROM that overwrites the GS4's bluethooth drivers with older code that is backward compatible.

Another thing to try is to search through the Play store. One had luck with GS3's with this app, another said it didn't work for GS4... but it's free so it's probably worth a shot:

Hey Vince. Thanks. I have the 2011 Gen. I tried pairing it again this morning with the galaxy s4 and it was the same error. Anyway, maybe the update you suggested would work. How do get the latest upgrade for the gps system though? Thanks

bammyt my system was upgraded when I had the GPS upgraded...The kit Hyundai uses to upgrade the GPS contains one disk of firmware upgrades. It may be avaialble without the GPS upgrade but I don't know that. Besides the S4 issue, the "unchecked surround sound" and no audio issue have been corrected since my GPS was upgraded. My dealer charged $300.

I tried the Bluetooth App suggested by Gunkk and so far it is working. I made 2 calls and the conversations never cut out. Typically, the calls cut out within the first 60 seconds of a conversation. I have a 2010 Genesis and the Galaxy S4. Thanks for the suggestion Gunkk.

Glad to hear you had success! I'm Curious: Which carrier is that?
