  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was wondering if there would be any interest in having a race day for us SoCal members. Just think about it, several Genesis coups and sedans hitting the drag strip and having some 1/4 mile fun, seeing how fast our cars are and showing off a bit in the process. We could meet at Fontana at the Autoclub Raceway for one of the NHRA's Street Legal race days, it is only $20 to race so it is very affordable.

Another race that we could run would be the Mojave Mile or the Mojave Magnum, this would allow you the opportunity to run your car up to top speed . The mile is, as it's name suggest, a 1 mile long perfectly straight track, while the Magnum event is 1.5 miles. These events are held at the Mojave airport so it is a bit longer of a drive for most of us and the event also cost a lot more then drag racing at $350 for a day or $550 for the weekend. But where else can you legally explore the speed limiter?

We could also head up to Willow Springs in Rosemond, this would be for those of you that prefer going fast and turning. These days cost less then Mojave but far more then the drags at $220 for the day. Depending on the day it can either be the 1.6 Mile Streets of Willow or the 2.5 Mile Big Willow course. This is much more risky for our cars then the others as a off due to a missed apex can be damaging, but it may be much more fun as a driver.

So here is the question, Would you like to get together for a race day? If you were going to get together with several other Genesis drivers for a race day which one would you like to do?

I am part of a gay men's sports car club and just posted about the upcoming street legal drags at Fontana. I might go to it, a couple others showed interest. I'm the only Genesis in the group but we have around 100 members in SoCal. Mostly BMW's and Audis. One of my friends just bought a M3 and I had fun chasing him through the canyons in my lil ol' 3.8 Genesis. We have a few guys with Astons and a new guy with a Lotus. Not sure if they're into racing though.

Is there any chance of a stock 2013 Genesis Sedan running faster than a 14 second 1/4 mile? I'm expecting to be maybe a 14.5 around 100mph? If I go faster than 14 than I need to buy a Snell approved helmet. I just checked and the one I wear on my Kawasaki Ninja is not Snell rated. Just DOT and CE.

Slim chance I'd say. The best time I've seen for the GDI V6 is 13.9 on a site that collects 0-60 and quarter mile times. I haven't seen that replicated by any of the big publications though.

Car and Driver listed the 3.8GDI at 13.9 @ 100, but all of their test are far faster then what the cars will actually run in the real world so you shouldn't have a issue. If you do break out the NHRA techs will tell you not to do it again, but you will still be able to race just back off at 1000 feet.

Let me know the dates that your going, I'll see if I can meet you there. We both have identical cars so it'll be fun to see if their is any difference between them on the track.

I'm debating now between ESC on, off or fuse pulled. I'm thinking on because I'm not interested in burning away the new Bridgestones I just put on.

How about being a "race club who happens to have mostly gays" (not that this matter too), instead of a "gay men's sports club"? Gee, imagine if someone said "I am part of a 50 year old white straight men's racing club", who also offered to invite others to such a group? This kind of division showing preference and/or discrimination through subtle naming conventions (and I am talking about "gay men's racing club") should be called out if any of those in the group would be offended by naming conventions of other congregations of people (of common visions) who may want to get together.

With that said, go Libertarian, lose the specializations and preference hints, and have fun racing.

LOL

We're not truly a race club. We're just a car "club" on facebook where we can get together and not have to hear macho homophobic b.s. that is common in other car club communities. We welcome all gay friendly straight members. Our last cruise had a nice married hetero couple with a new 335i along with us.

Looks like the next 2 dates are May 9th and July 26th.

I might be able to make May 9'th. Turns out most others in the group prefer to race on a track or not at all so 1/4 mile drag racing isn't their thing and I'd probably be the only one going.

Let's see what happens for the 9th then, hopefully you can get a few of your club members to join, I'm also going to see if some of my family can also join us.

Personally I could care less if someone is Gay or Straight, it is the love of the automobile and the will to race that matters to me, who you want to kiss is your own business.

I don't, you have any that work well for you?
Everything coming up is during something for the family, that is till the August 23 or Aug 30 events, those would work well for me, as would the end of the year event on Nov 1 and Nov 8, basically the last 4 events of the year.
