Yeah I think they were just trying to show the possible headlights. I don't think this new design is gonna look great just being honest, but we shall see.

Difference is that for the Kona (and Santa Fe, Telluride and Venue) - the top part is just the DRLs, whereas for Genesis, both are part of the headlights (unless they changed things up).

And Hyundai did a split-design on the HCD-8 concept all the way back in 2004, so one can say that w/ Genesis, they went back to their roots.

I presently am driving an Infiniti G37 and researched the G70 to death this year and was really close to getting a 2019 G70 3.3l Sport until I saw a review of the 2020 Sonata and Sonata N-Line on Youtube and saw it in person and got pissed off. I like the Sonata's rear lights, love the ability to move it in or out of a parking spot using the key fob, love the side camera views displaying in the gauges when turning and the overall better dash. Hate the cheap looking plastic front grill and it's a longer car than what I seek. It's ridiculous that such an affordable car has those cool technologies ahead of Genesis. I'm not willing to pay over $50K for dated technology (outside camera views are much grainier than Mercedes) in a high end car brand that is supposed to be better than cheap Hyundai's and be able to compete with the latest 3-series that is now ahead technologically (traffic mode, etc). Not liking the split headlights of the next gen G70 now said to be due for 2022 instead of 2021. Very hard to believe they'll keep the G70 the same until 2022 not upping the technology. I've seen only one G70 on the road all this year. If Genesis adds the tech updates of the Sonata to the G70 in 2021 without the ugly facelift, I'll be a customer then. Really wish Genesis had its own dealerships because the Hyundai salespeople are so very annoying, high-pressured and very unfamiliar with the car. A definitely low class shopping experience compared to Infiniti or Mercedes.

First and foremost, the one you see in these spy shots are not of a “next Gen” model it is a refresh. We have to see if it comes with this facelift anyway. I’m sure it will because the tech is there and competitors have it as well. Now for how they come and continue asking you if you are looking for anything that’s basically normal around dealers. Maybe you’ve been doing your service at the Infiniti dealer for awhile now and they know your face. If you go to any dealership it’s always like that where they see a new face then it’s like instant let’s go and see what he wants. Now for the service you might have to ask @Beefer or visit one of the other forum listed in under another topic. Wish you the best wether you pick a new Genesis up or not.

Which one? There are 400 Hyundai/Genesis dealers so you can expect to have 400 different experiences. Some great, some not so much. I've dealt with three of them in three different states and they have been good but others not so much. I've wandered around a lot of different brand dealer car lots and some have approached me, other have not. The only truly obnoxious one is a Chevy dealer. I hated to even walk by that lot and it was by our downtown.

You also have to keep in mind that the primary features of the G70, that set it apart from lesser cars, is the chassis and drivetrain. Genesis didn't poach Albert Biermann and do all that testing at the Nurburgring to develop the tech features, they did it to beat BMW in the sports sedan war. The tech features are great, and come much cheaper than on established luxury brands, but they don't make it a driver's car. The chassis and drivetrain do.

Agree 100%. There is no way a Sonata will drive like the G70 does and that was the main reason for this car to exist. Technology will come when facelift arrive in a couple of years. It came first to the Sonata because its facelift came first but it's an anticipation of what will come to the G70 and believe me, it will be better for sure.

IMHO the next G70 will be a big step forward from a tech and interior materials standpoint. It has to be, the next crop of Genesis vehicles will be their big make it or break it period if they want to solidify a spot right behind the Germans and ahead of the Japanese in the luxury segment.

It’s also pretty apparent that Genesis’s main competition is going to be coming from it's parent and sister companies. The new Palisade/Telluride Sonata (with an N Line model coming) the new Optima (with the same 290hp 2.5t motor and AWD) and if the new Azera makes it over to NA...are all going to be class leaders in they respective segments by a fair margin. So this is all to say the all new GV80, G80, GV60 and G70 all better bring it, because the value proposition better not be close.

We'll probably see better tech (at least some of it like the larger 10.25" nav screen and the digital gauge cliuster) for the MCE - which is likely about a year and half away for the NA launch.

The Kia K900 was about 2-3 years behind in development of the G90, so it got the larger 10.25" nav screen, digital gauge cluster, etc.

Some S Class owners got pissed out that they didn't get the tech that the E Class (and then later the C Class) got, but that was unavoidable due to the timetable of development (the S Class eventually got the tech when it underwent its MCE).

Along the same lines, luxury branded vehicles based on mainstream FWD platforms are about a year or 2 behind their mainstream corporate siblings.

For instance, the RX still being on the old platform, whereas the new Highlander is on the TNGA platform (plenty of other examples - the ILX, etc.).


As for dealership service experience, it really depends on your local dealership(s) (even for Lexus, dealership experience is not the same across the board), but generally, better at the luxury dealerships until Genesis dealerships build out more stand-alone stores (only a couple are in existence presently).

Like I had stated, the 1G G70 is the last of the old Genesis models (well into development by the time the Genesis brand was launched; old design language, old platform and powertrains, same infotainment system as Hyundai, etc.).

The GV80 will be the first model to really get the full Genesis treatment.

And as impressive the level of tech the new Sonata has (note, the Palisade doesn't have every feature that the Sonata has, despite being a more expensive model), the new Genesis models will get all that and even more tech (when you keep adding tech, some it of gets a bit superfluous).
