  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

SPYSHOTS: The next generation of the Genesis G80 is here

I'm sure it'll look great. Sadly, I fully expect them to drop the V8. Which just means I'm more likely to keep my G80 longer and/or go with another vehicle. Although honestly, there isn't likely to be anything game changing they'll offer compared to the current G80; other than incremental improvements across the board. Of course, they've still gotta do it to keep up with the competition and maintain their great value proposition. We'll see!

I hope they shave a few hundred lbs off the car, an aluminum frame is a good start. And have a more refined sport model by 2021, the latest 2022. The good news is it’s sporting. Michelin’s (for the G80 Sport fans)

Dunno what I'd do if they drop the V8. The G90 is too big of a car for me and too much stuff in the back seat that I'll never use.

Man, that racetrack looks like they did some testing at the Nuerburgring Nordschleife in Germany!

Keep in mind too that they may be disguising the final shape of the car.

Manufacturers often do during the early test models.

With 2025 CAFE stands looming, not just the V8 but the G90 may disappear from the US market. Salvation may be some EV to boost the numbers

Here's a render I got from someone on Instagram based on the spy shots. SmartSelect_20180908-170435_Instagram.webp

Not even close IMO. If you blow up the spy shots you can clearly see they are using projector headlights similar to what is on the G80 Sport now. Dual projectors, not quad, and while the camp makes it appear the lights are split, zooming in 1000% shows they are not, you can see that the light is a single solid part like it is now.

I doubt it, Hyundai has hybrids. Doesn’t take much to convert the G90 to a v6 with a hybrid drive or plug in drive.

Large sedans have a niche and I doubt we will see them go away even to the crossover and suv crowds.

The V8 cars are not big sellers, I think Hyundai sells enough 4 and 6 cylinders to allow them to continue selling V8's. They also may have different engine options for different markets. The V8 might still be available in Canada even if it's not in the US market. I prefer the V8 because of the sound, not the performance. I don't drive it hard enough to make use of all that power. If there's no V8s from Genesis then maybe a CTS-V? Q70? XJR?

No thanks I'll pass!

I guess as long as the G80 & G90 remain popular in Korea they will
continue marketing & improving them. They obviously don't care about the North American market @ this time.Guess they are counting on future SUV sales to get more sales volume here.
We will continue to drive Motoring's best kept secret which is not all bad.Got asked again @ Costco getting gas if it was an Aston Martin ;).

It looks like they got rid of pano roof?

It looks like they got rid of pano roof?

is the pano on all models/versions?

they might be testing a base version.. maybe they are considering making it an option.

I'm not sure, you could be right about the base version. Never though about it, lol

That would be the smartest thing they could do. I've had 4 of them totally replaced already. Just put in a good old sunroof.

^ One thing to add about the upcoming powertrains.

As been mentioned several times, the new 2.5T engine will be the base power-plant and had surmised that likely will see a power boost for the turbo V6.

According to a source, TKCB is reporting that the 3.3T will be replaced by a 3.5T.

W/ this move, seems likely that the Tau V8 will be dropped (probably will still see it available for the G90) w/ all powertrains getting updated to the 10 spd AT.

It is Hyundai's tradition that higher end model will get latest tech the soonest, so G90 will get new powertrain no later than the G80.

The 3.5T V6 will have similar hp as the V8, but significantly more torque, make no sense to keep the V8.

Not sure whether the 10AT project still exists or not in the corporate. They usually file US patent for new transmission design well before it goes into market (same for other companies - Aisin, ZF, GM/Ford etc.), and this was the case for the current 8AT. But right now, I have not seen any patent filing from Hyundai related to 10AT.

Just won't sound the same without the V8 which is the main reason I bought it and it'd be a hard sell to me without the V8. Don't see why Hyundai can't boost power to the V8 up to 500hp. Ford is getting 460hp out of their 5.0L motors, an extra 40hp shouldn't be impossible. The Tau is about 10 years old now, it's time for a major update.

It is not just horsepower but fuel consumption. They have to meet tightening EPA regulations. Then you have reliability. The Ford engine only has to hold together for 60,000 miles, not the 100,000 miles of a Hyundai. Quite a difference there.

The question is not what the "can" do but what they "want" to do for cost and reliability.
