  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

SPYSHOTS: The next generation of the Genesis G80 is here

In these sideview pictures, the roof is pretty low relative to the belt line. Along with the side body lines being very carved and low enough that they're along the handles, this car is going to look super low to the ground.

Anyone holding off on their g80 purchase because of this?

I am, I'm afraid the G70 will bit a bit on the small side, so I'm waiting for the the next gen G80, and I hope it will have the new 10.25" infotainment screen like the new Kia Soul has.

I hope they actually make the new G80 a bit smaller than the current one. Currently it's 197" long, while most of the competitors are between 192-195".

^ G70 is the first ground up model.

While it's the 1st Genesis model not to have ever been sold as a Hyundai, it has carry-over design-language, as well as platform and powertrains.

On top of that, the new G80 should also be getting the new UI (if it's ready in time) that is separate/distinct from the Hyundai UI which are found in current Genesis models.

The next G80 is the first model to have been developed once the separation of Genesis from Hyundai was put into effect.

One can say that the G70 is the last of the old Genesis.

Please explain. Look at the demographics of the typical G80 buyer. Where do you want up to 5" taken from? The front seat where I'm comfortable? The back seat where my friends in their 70s have to get in and out of? The trunk where I put a wheelchair? Change the profile of the front bumper that protected me when my car was hit?

If you can maintain all those dimensions and cut 5". OK, but if you cut them short, I'll look for a car that better suits my needs.

I like that it’s bigger than the competitors even though it’s in their class. You get more for the price and to me, bigger the better. Australia doesn’t get the G90 so it’s nice to have the G80’s size.

The added space in the rear compartment is, imo, a major factor why the Genesis/G80 was, for a good stretch, the 3rd best selling RWD model in the segment.

The tighter rear (compared to the competition) is why don't think the G70 will fare as well (same reason why the ATS and XE haven't sold better and why the G/Q50 has regularly outsold the IS).

Wow. Absolutely awesome! The five spoke wheels look extremely good! Rear LED tail lights are looking solid!

Not surprisingly, the lighting elements (that can be seen in the taillights) are better/cooler than for the facelifted G90.

Don't know why some think the roofline looks like that of the A5/A7 Sportback, when it clearly doesn't have a fastback/liftback shape and isn't really that diff. from the current G80.

I hope they can reduce the G80s weight and improve fuel economy.

We know that the new platform will be a lighter.

And the body panels will consist of more ultra-tensile steel w/ aluminum, at the very least, likely for the hood.

The new 2.5T and 3.5T engines are part of the Hyundai/Genesis' new Smart Stream engine family - which improve thermal efficiency by a good bit.

So combined, fuel efficiency should be better, but remains to be seen by how much, depending on how much the reduction in weight entails (while lighter platform, etc. - more tech/more sound deadening materials, etc. which adds back weight; a massive panoramic moon-roof doesn't help w/ the weight - lol).

While not exactly an apples to apples comparison - should get a reasonable ballpark when Hyundai releases the EPA estimates for the new Sonata to see how much it improves over the outgoing model.

Here's some good news.

Fitzgerald stated in an interview that the time gap btwn Korean and other market launches will be reduced, so we may be seeing the G80 sooner than expected (1st Q of 2020?).
