Sunroof Rattle

I have had some noise, almost glass on glass when backing out of slight inclined driveway, and recently (2+ years and 18k in) some rattles when in tilt mode on the road. For the driveway it doesnt bother me at all and for the rattle, it goes away after 1 full open then close. I hope it doesn;t progress but for me it is a super minor issue at this point.

They fixed my pano roof on my Sonata after replacing the entire sunroof assembly which was after multiple gasket replacements, adjustments and track replacements. Only thing that worked was replacing the entire roof unit. Still haven’t brought the Genesis in since it was such a hassle with the Sonata and all the other damage they caused to the interior.

This is going to be interesting. I wonder if there are other reports of this happening.

It's not unheard of on any car with a Pano roof. That's not to say it's common. It could be from a defect, but is also likely to be the result of impact damage.

There is a recall for 2015 Sonata for the same problem.

Wow! That really is scary! I assume it was open, therefore, keeping it closed should be safe, except in a hail storm when it breaks into little pieces.(?)

I too have this same problem. I see a lot of comments but no resolve. Has anyone had this issues resolved by Hyundai? The dealership that I have taken this to is completly unaware of this on going problem. Any TSB's on this?

Any dealership who says they don't know about the problem is full of shit. It is WELL KNOWN and Hyundai doesn't seem to really care. They will fix the occasional loud mouth complaining owners car, but a complete recall? No way. Just keep SCREAMING and something might get done. I know when my 2016 Genny lease is up, it will be "goodbye hyundia" for sure. Changed my car name from "Genny" to "RATTLES" because of the roof problem.

Just thought I'd poke my head back in here. For those who are just discovering your amazing new creaking sunroof on your $40k + car, there is no fix. No TSB, no recall. I have dealt with mine for over a year. Had adjustments and a new sunroof installed, and starts up again. Hyundai basically said there is nothing they can do, and they knows it's a problem. I got 3 months of car payments and the bumper to bumper warranty extended to the 10 yr 100k for compensation. I do come here with something though, the service manager told me the other day that the engineers are actually working on a fix now, and may have something soon. The squeaky wheel, or sunroof, gets the grease. Just keep complaining to Hyundai, not sure what else to do, unless anyone has am experience with lawsuits.

Lol, unaware. The dealership is totally aware. They will bs you until you force it out of them. My dealer kept playing dumb hoping i would go away like most do. But eventually after getting my entire sunroof replaced, it slipped out that they have replaced like 15 genesis sunroofs before mine. They are scumbags.

while my car was at the dealership for the 45k service, I mentioned my sunroof rattle and they are replacing it (first time mentioning it to them). We will see how it is when I get the car back but my fingers are crossed.

Having not read this 60 page discussion, I wondered if someone more knowledgable might let me and others know if this problem has shown up on the new G80.

Does it show up on 2016 Hyandai Equus also, I can get one for about 2k more than the G80 premium package.

I don't know if anyone has had problems with the Equus sunroof (the ones I have seen do not have a panorama). I have not seen any threads on the Equus forum dealing with a sunroof issue. My brother has a 2015 Equus and he has no problems with the car at all.

I don't discount the fact that we have multiple posters who have a problem, but... we certainly have many forum user's who don't have the rattle.
Here's a project for anyone who has the energy... (I don't!)

Count the unique posters in this almost 600 post thread.
Report the number of unique posters who say their car has the rattle.
Report the number of total unique posters in the thread. (Or how many are not saying they have a problem.)
Report the number of users who say the issue is solved.
... and for bonus points... it would be fun to know how many unique members are in the forum who own a Genesis.

My guess is that despite the fact that WHEN the problem happens, it's often not properly fixed, there are many owners who don't have an issue.
I actually had a pause before my purchase after reading about this. In my case.. I'm glad that I bought the car.

No problems with my moonroof. I have been applying Krytox 205 to my door gaskets (no more noises) and applied a bit to the roof as a preventative.

thanks for comments. I recognize that we don't have statistical info, and there are folks for every product thant have problems. But not sure I have ever seen a 60 page discussion like this one, plus problems with Sonata sunroof etc.
