If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

Last Tuesday I had a Field Engineer and the local District Parts and Service Manager look at my car and they were two of the most unhelpful individuals I've ever worked with.

I would keep calling Hyundai and ask them to send another service manager/field engineer. First time around, I left the car at dealership and service manager/Hyundai Engineers didn't hear anything. Second time around, I asked that I want to be there when they test drive it and sure enough I was able to pin point the sound from sunroof.

If I had to bet money, I bet it is inside the pano assembly that I bet they source out to another company. The only way to solve it is to put the car that has the rattle on a shake table, find the frequencies and then carefully disassemble to get down to the source. Sadly, I don't see that happening. Maybe start carping to the journalist fleet, or You Tube might get attention.

Had my 2015 5.0 Ultimate AWD a week and the sunroof just started rattling. Taking it to the dealer this week and hopefully they can fix it. So annoying.

Good luck. I wrote a scathing letter to HMA last week because they haven't fixed the vibration, the sunroof still rattles (... they say they consider the rattle normal!), and I've had to replace my FOUR(!) bent rims. The regional customer service rep, a Doug Mix, called me a while ago to reaffirm that they still weren't going to fix my car. I already knew that! I still can't figure out why he called, but if he wanted to piss me off even more, it worked.

Crisis averted (I hope). I isolated it to the passenger side and turns out it was the seatbelt buckle rattling on the door frame. I adjusted it and it seems to have gone away. Hopefully that was the issue...

My only rattle is the buckle on the passenger seat belt bumping the B-pillar on severe road irregularities. I'm tempted to glue a bit of padding where the buckle rides when not in use. At first, I thought it was the sunroof, but it only happens when I am solo.

BTW - Thanks Pahaska for the diagnosis that seems to have fixed my issue...

I have had the same thing happen on several cars I have owned... The funny thing is that the rattle sounded like it came from a different area.
Another area to look for rattles is the rear door sun screens ..when they rattle it sounds like the noise is coming from the front of the car :)

Another place to look is the glove box door. Mine rattled and it was pretty subtle but fixing it eliminated the last of the interior noises (except for the sunroof rattle) :).

I had posted earlier downplaying the minor rattle on my 2015 Ultimate. It is now a full fledged rattle and is annoying. If I partially close the sunroof it seems to go away or be less noticeable. With the good weather in Midwest I have had roof open most days but do not seem to notice when closed.

Will probably wait till next oil change to bring it up to dealer. Hope a TSB is issued by then.

Only downer on an otherwise great vehicle.

ps, Don't know why the pano roofs are so prevalent. I would be great with a standard sf and it is much easier to engineer to be quiet.
My wife was looking at new MB 300 and pano roof is only roof option at 1400 buck where standard roof was previously included part of a turn off to this vehicle.

With nearly 15,000 miles on my 3.8, and several visits to the dealer, there is still no solution to the constant creaking noise of the pano roof. My service manager says he is researching the problem with Hyundai before he tries any fix (3 weeks now). I'm convinced it's the exterior plastic trim pieces on the side of the pano roof. It's unfortunate that I have to drive with the shade closed to minimize the noise. Has anyone found a solution?

They witnessed my sunroof rattle and then drove another Genesis which also rattled so they decided it was normal that if you drove it on a rough road, it rattled. They won't do anything for mine.

We also drove mine on a smooth highway for about two blocks and experienced no vibration, so they figure my wheels are okay, too. What a waste. I just went out and spent $650 on new wheels because I don't want to deal with them anymore. My dealer was fine, but his hands are tied once Corporate gets involved.

I love my car, but Hyundai has really let me down.

In the same boat as you as of now, they want to send a field engineer to drive my car for the vibrations and if what you said is true I am a little worried as nobody wants to own up to this vibration.. Curious you said you replaced the wheels, did that solve the vibration issues?

Are you sure it's not coming from the overhead map light console? I had most of my roof replaced or reinstalled and it helped, but the bulk of my noise issues were really resolved with reinstalling the map light console - that was constantly either creaking or rattling, even on relatively smooth roads.

No, strangely enough. It was proven to me that my original wheels were bent, but replacing them didn't change the intermittent high speed vibration at all. It still lives on. :( PS: I haven't driven the car much lately, but the flat-spotting symptom was still there, too, the last time I drove it.

Very interesting.. Did it improve the vibrations at all? Also, are you going to lemon the car, or have you been in contact with any CEO? What's your next step? Very surprised the new tires didn't do anything.

1. No improvement at all. 2. Yes. The process is ongoing. I expect to hear something soon. 3. The CEO really did nothing. 4. The tires didn't improve anything - in fact they may have made things worse.

My 2015 3.8AWD Ultimate (prod. 07/14) roof squeaks. Recorded with open sun roof shade. Sounds like a tree under the wind...

Took the car in for occasional, but noisy rattle. Service applied lubricant to the tracks and mechanism. Now the noise became constant (I was driving relatively good road while recording), but it is slightly softer, since it goes from under the lube...

Taking car to the service tomorrow for another reason - not sure if I should pursue the sunroof issue without TSB, since techs obviously have no clue how to fix it, and I don't want half of my car disassembled to no avail...

... and my sunroof STILL rattles! (Also made worse by having it worked on!)

That is my fear, that an attempted fix would make it worse.

At about 3k miles now my roof has started a "mild" creaking nearly constantly. If close the shade I don't notice it much, but with the shade open it is noticeable all the time.

Hopefully there will be a TSB and/or a permanent documented fix for this. Traditional, small sunroofs are looking better to me now!

I've read this thread from page 1, but it seems to me you have omitted the part of your story between second lube application (that made it completely quite) and the moment you've got the noise back. I really hoped that your "throughout lubrication" method would solve the problem, until I saw your messages closer to the end of the thread where you complain about the rattle/squeaks again. Did it return by itself?

Meanwhile, I left my car at the dealer earlier today with sunroof squeaks being one of the issues reported. Since they planing to take the car to a 3rd party window installer to reinstall rear window anyway (to place a new rubber seal surrounding the roof and rear window that they damage last time while installing the broken roof channel ), I will be pushing on the whole sunroof assembly replacement. We'll see how it goes.

P.S. 2015 Genny 3.8 AWD Ultimate loaner that I was given (Jul 14 production) makes very similar sounds in the sunroof region... :(
