Sunroof Rattle

Update, all minor details were resolved and sunroof rattle has completely disappeared. So the replacement of sunroof assembly was the cure. Now I have discovered a slight clicking noise in the steering wheel unit when turning the steering wheel left or right.

Good to hear. My car is getting the sunroof assembly replaced today for the same issues. The squeaking was getting so loud even shutting the sunroof liner didn't hide it anymore. They were able to immediately confirm the squeak in their test drive, had the assembly shipped overnight, and have a glass expert coming in today to help install the new panel to make sure everything goes well. All covered under warranty. So far seems like great service, hoping it fixes my issue which unfortunately should never have happened.

Wow, 35 pages of '15/'16 sunroof rattles. I won't be buying a pano roof anytime soon. No noises ever with my '12 roof.

While there have been several report of issues, not all users have a problem. In fact, probably more don't than do. So far so good for me. The fact that there have been some issues would not stop be from enjoying the feature.

The real question is: Once the repair is done, will the issue stay fixed?

I've had my 15 model(preowned) for less than 3 weeks... Roof has slowed down closing and sometimes it gets about 4 inches from closing and opens back up. At times it takes as many as 4 attempts before it closes completely. I plan to take it to the dealership tomorrow.
Completely off topic.. Did any of you have a contant problem of your door not closing? I get in mine and almost every time I have to open and close the door because I haven't shut it hard enuff the first time.

For the sunroof issue.... There is a reset procedure in the owner's manual. Try that first. If it does not solve the issue, take it back for service.

For the door issue, that is probably an easy adjustment. Again, your dealer should be able to assist.

Here is the Sunroof Reset:

Whenever the vehicle battery is disconnected
or discharged, or related
fuse is blown, you must reset your
sunroof system as follows:
1. Turn the engine on and close the
sunroof glass and sunshade completely.

2. Release the control lever.

3. Push the sunroof control lever forward
in the direction of close
(about 10 seconds) until the sunshade
slides open and the sunroof
glass tilts. Then, release the lever.
4. Push the sunroof control lever forward
in the direction of close until
the sunroof operates as follows:
Glass Tilt Close → Glass Slide Open
→ Glass Slide Close

Then, release the control lever.
When this is complete, the sunroof
system is reset.

Thank you =) I didn't see your reply until after I had already dropped mine off at Hyundai. The dealership was awesome considering I didn't buy it there.. My loaner is a 5.0 =)

Taking my '15 with pano roof into dealer this Thurs. Dreading the "can't duplicate the prob" answer from them.. will post back after Thurs.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I have the same issue. My initial "rattle" was in the light display area - the plastic all the way at the top closest to the opening of the sunroof. I pushed hard all the way around the plastic piece and it's stopped. However, I do have the rattle in the sunroof - tapping sound - and I keep the panel closed and turn up the radio to not hear it! Annoying on a 45,000 car for sure! Contacting the dealer now that I see it's not just me!

I have the exact same issue. Did the dealer resolve the issue? If so, what was the root cause? Thanks!

Dealer acknowledged the prob. They'll keep the car for 3 days to remove the entire pano roof and reassemble next week. Will report back.

Has anyone that had their pano replaced have the rattling come back on the new pano? Any other issues encountered with the new pano or is all good? I'm considering taking my baby in soon so see what they'll offer as a fix.

I had the same thing done 2 weeks ago. So far the sunroof has been dead silent. Hopefully this is a permanent fix. Mine also had the issue where the seal was separating from the back glass panel.

Mine also had the issue where the seal was separating from the back glass panel.

Mine actually needed parts to make it close properly and when I got out of the car this morning, I saw that my seal is also cattie wompus. I don't have any noise, I'm concerned about leakage.

Has anyone had a leak?

No leaks at all with the seal separation issue. I am still waiting for Tech Bulletin to get mine fixed. Dealer is aware but I am worried if they tried to fix it without a proper Tech Bulletin I would end up with the Sunroof Rattle some people are having. I have zero rattles and wan't to keep it that way.

I've heard it since the day I purchased my car. Mine is pretty much constant and really noticable to me. Passengers don't hear it until I point it out. In reading earlier posts, it's the sunroof assembly that needs to be replaced - not quite sure what that consists of. If I close the liner, I don't hear it either. I'm going to have it addressed when I take it in for the first oil change, just wanted to wait until there were more reports of other owners with this issue so that the fix would come EASIER.

I had mine replaced and it was a three day job for my dealer. 1st day they did a test drive to confirm the problem, then get Hyundai to approve the new panoramic sunroof assembly and the overnight shipping of it. Day 2 they spent taking the current sunroof off and waiting for the part to arrive. Day 3 they had a glass specialist come to the dealership and help install the new assembly. I'm not sure this could have been done any quicker than they did it based on all that needs to happen. I had the problem for quite a while, and once it got to the point where I could hear it even with the sunroof liner closed I pretty much insisted that they replace it. The seal between the two glass panels was also coming loose, so I think that helped get the replacement approved so quickly.

I got the car back on 2/12/16 and have not had any noise from the sunroof since. It's so nice to have such a quiet car again, which is one of the main reasons I bought the car to begin with. Good luck with yours.

Thanks for your update. This is exactly why I waited to take it in, I knew they would tell me I was hearing things - so I wanted to have ammunition (other complaints) before I even opened the door. I'm so concered that letting them fix the rattle will in turn create other issues - leaking etc. - but I don't have much choice. Fingers crossed - calling them today.

I've had a slight rattle in the sunroof since I bought the 3.8 about a year ago. Finally got around to complaining to the dealer about 2 months ago. They said they had to order another (panel? rail?) and would call when it came in. Called to check up on it a few weeks ago and they said it was on backorder from the factory. Seems a lot of complaints about this.

But at least I was able to close the fabric and not hear it. Finally today the rattle has gotten significantly louder to where I can still hear it with the fabric closed and the radio on. Hopefully the part will get in soon. Dealer says it will take a few days for full replacement.

My 2016 with 1385 miles on it has the roof rattle when sunroof is open. It seems to be the glass roof potion that slides back. It just started about a couple of days ago.

My 2015 AWD is back at the dealership to address it for a second time. The rattle at first was not loud but annoying at traveling speeds of 25 on rough roads. The dealer advised Hyundai is aware of the issue and a new glass roof is being shipped. Couple of days after picking it up it's now a squeak that is much louder. Back to the dealer today. Anyone actually had it corrected? Should I expect that I have to live with it?
