I have not had much in the way of complaints about the sunroof because I treat it like the time bomb that it is, as kn5owa pointed out. But unfortunately, the bad design does not stop there. I lost the glass panel between the windshield and the moving pano panel. Whisky tango foxtrot. Who on earth thought that would work? As an engineer, it offends me deeply. The idea that one could extend the windshield (from an aero perspective) without using at _least_ automobile windshield plate glass is just ludicrous, but I would venture to say that no glass is the only viable solution.
And if you are thinking that I lost mine the same way most Genesis owners lose theirs (not our virginity), but sadly, no. The pebble lost the contest to the sun between it, aero wind load, body flex, temperature changes, and other road debris, to kill the stupid glass panel. I was in my garage, roasting coffee, when I heard what sounded like a pecan dropping on my car in the driveway. As I looked right at where the windshield was, i realized I was watching the entire panel simply disintegrate in the 100 F Texas sun. My wife and my neighbor watched in amazement. It took about 15 minutes and when I drove to the dealer (very slowly), pieces started to flake off. They gave me a brand new loaner, but it's a pickup truck. They said about a week to get the part and install it. I asked the service manager (who is the greatest) if he could make it out of metal and he just laughed.
The US mfr warranty appears to be 5 year, 60k miles. If I were keeping the car, I definitely would make certain that any extended warranty covers the cost of replacement, which I am sure is quite high, since the car is not drivable in any real sense until it is fixed, and requires a rental or personal replacement. It is something that has a limited lifetime where I live, and would require regular replacement. My car is garaged and I enjoy covered parking at work. It didn't matter.
