Thanks for the TSB .... I do not think my is defective, but it only telescope out about 2 inches ..... most cars with telescope wheel move out at least 4 inches. It makes a big deal if you have a bad spine to not have it telescope out more, thus it is hard to get comfortable in it.per previous threads, the answer is probably no ... note that there's a TSB for the steering column for some model years; perhaps your mechanism is hosed? mine was replaced a yr ago.

What I found out from some posts on this forum is that the distance the steering column telescopes out used to be more than the 1 inch that mine travels out now. Due to a software change for 2012-2013 the distance the steering column moves out was reduced.Does anyone know if there can be an adjustment made to increase the distance the steering wheel telescopes out? This question will probably require an answer from a hyundai trained Mechanic.

What I am trying to find out is how to get the telescope distance out to increase to how it was before they reduced it to 1 inch.On the early model sedans with tilt/telescope issues, the problem acted like a computer's idea of the column position got out of sync with the actual position. Running the control switch all the way to the 4 stops - and holding it at each position for several seconds - would allow the computer counters to get back in sync. If I remember correctly, the tilt down and furthest away telescope commands seemed to do the trick.

I don't know what mechanism Hyundai uses now to control column travel; it used to have limit switches and they were the flaky parts in the design.

I am serious;ly about to eat my new car $, and buy a SS. PCM - thanks for article. I have been keeping up on SS over the past year, but drove it the other day and the seats are completely superior to the Genesis sedan I have. There is no comparison between the two. MT warned about the Genesis seat, and I thought it might work, but is doesn't, which is to bad since the Genesis is a great car but lacks seats, but it looks like they are coming out with better seats for 2015 model Genesis but with a lot higher price on it. Cornering in the SS is really great and the seats hold you in place vs the Genesis seats ... No comparison between the two in cornering and bolstering. Wish that was not true, but it is. Gunk - After driving the SS it is superior balanced and really easy to drive vs Genesis. No issues with steering wheel being to far away as Genesis and SS also has nicer much easier electric steering and better cornering. SS is really easier and much more comfortable to drive, but Genesis Lexicon stereo is way better than SS.The new Chevy SS? That thing's a monster![]()

Do any of you mechanically inclined forum members believe that the Rspec sedan telescoping feature can be adjusted so that it extends toward the driver as it was designed to do. I'm wanting to specifically extend the telescoping range beyond the 1 inch it now travels. I just want to know if I can get the telescope to move outward more than one inch which is all it moves out. I have seen the older TSB walk through showing how to replace tilt and telescope switches in the steering column. If I was not in beat down health ordeal I would take the column apart and see if there is something i can move that would allow the telescope to move out more.
As it is now, I am faced with trading a new really nice Rspec to get a car with a better seat and/or better set up regarding steering wheel. If the Geneis was not so nice, I would have already traded it ... need to make sure I do not make a mistake again. SS is what I have been looking at and drove, and same with 3.6L ATS RWD with great seats with power bolsters. And also have driven 535i with nice power bolsters, but prefer V8 as in 550i, or SS. Or just hang on and see how the 2015 Genesis works out ---- from pictures the seat looks significantly better, lower, firmer, and more bolstering. If health issue were not nipping at me, and/or if I could get the telescope wheel to adjust out more, I would just wait for 2015 June Genesis. Who knows. Regards.
Well, my wife sure likes you ... LOL. I just read your post to her.Get the SS, R-Spec goes to wife. And try a SHO for giggle. Has nice adjustment and different stance to get in and out. Might help you with the back. Same for the MKS.
You should not regret having two cars with big engines. For the small amount difference in mileage, and knowing that V8 and twin turbo V6 are about to be taken out due to 55mpg Obama requirements coming, in a few years you will wish you COULd own two high power cars. IMO.

I need to know if that software change can be changed back to how it was when I test drove 4 different 2013 sedans before I decided to buy a new 2013. Due to a bad spine, I made sure the position of the steering wheel after telescoping out to its maximum distance would be adequate for me, and it was adequate on the cars i drove.
But now when I received the actual car I bought, the telescoped distance is not adequate since it only telescope out 1 inch. This is like bait and switch.
If anyone knows if this telescoping software can be changed, please advise. Regards Dan
