@MG8, What bothers me is that you and others make these broad statements, characterizing Tesla owners in general in a negative light, with all these pre-conceived notions as to what these owners are thinking.
My wife and I experienced this kind of attitude first-hand when she was driving a Prius. All we wanted was a car that got great mileage (it got an honest 50mpg overall average) because she was putting on 30k miles a year and it satisfied all of our needs and the time. It did exactly what it was intended to do, and needed very little maintenance. We had to deal with people acting like asshats, scratching the car and making crazy comments and assumptions as to our motivations.
People come out of the woodwork with some kind of axe to grind and take it out on the owners. It's tiring.
Isn't it possible that a majority of Tesla owners just happen to like the car, either for it's styling (I don't), or it's power or because they can charge it (at least partially) with their house? I know if I lived in a sun-drenched area, the thought of charging my car with my house's solar panels would be very enticing. None of these reasons make the buyers stupid or zombies. They just have different preferences than you do.
