  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The Beef's G70

I do it by hand...since I know the formula :) Moving from Canada to the US before the internet was so vast...I had to learn :)

So...that is 26.14 MPG and 30.55 MPG respectively. That is quite the difference from "wear in".

I would say that 29-30 MPG is a VERY respectable number...not driving like a goof.
I think my realistic average will be around 8.2-8.5L/100km if and when I start driving in the city more. I try to limit my car just to work commuting. Otherwise I'll be well over 30k km in a year.

I use an app on my phone called Unit Converter.

I was using one also but had km/L chosen instead of L/100km. That is what I get for questioning a Canadian born Beefer on km conversions. ;)

When the Canadian cars listed MPG, we used UK MPG instead so I'm looking at around 36.69 UK MPG. Now that's an impressive number compared to US MPG.

So Beefer what's you insurance company? how was the rate? did you shop around?

Yeah...I never used UK MPG...even when in Canada.

I stuck with Geico. They finally got the G70 in their internal system...but not in the customer facing GUI.

Here is the kicker folks. The G70 is always an Advanced. The trims are really packages !!! So...they don't care if you have a Sport...as that is just an option. So my insurance is on a G70 Advanced. Love it.

Anyhoo...went up by $234 per year from a 2013 Audi A4 Premium Plus. Not bad at all...very pleased.

So any idea why it went up? Is it classified as a performance vehicle?
Mine went up about $20 a month as well compared to my TL SH-AWD. And that was a bigger car with a bigger engine. Going to wait until January to see what it is at my renewal.

All the new technology probably. Bigger engine as well.

So the newer tech is supposed to reduce the cost because most of them are active safety based. Our 2019 Sorento SXL went down by about $20 a month compared to our previous SUV.
Maybe because it is a first year model and they don't know how reliable it would be?

Not true. The new tech is very expensive to fix. All the cameras, lasers, etc. even a little fender bender can cost a ton.

Actually it is true, unless your old car had the tech too. I went from 2015 Optima and 2014 Durango to 2018 GMC Terrain Denali and 2018 Kia Sorento SXL and my insurance went down by like 40 bucks a month because of all the new tech. AEB, FCWS, and blind spot warning all reduce risk of accident by more than the replacement cost I guess. Now if you already that stuff, then yeah it'll probably go up. Otherwise, going from none of that tech, to it, should reduce your rate.

Is what it is. My agent explained what I stated...so I’m sticking to their reasoning which I agree with. It’s also been discussed here and there. Everyone’s situation might be different...you might have lucked out.

Could be given similar type/valued vehicles. In my case I'm going to go from a 2008 Acura TL with no active safety features to either an A6 or G80 Sport, according to the quotes I got the G80 Sport will be about $1,100 a year more and the A6 a little less than that.

Just found this, an article from Forbes from last month saying that in general safety features don't save on insurance costs except stability control.

“You’d think that since these technology advancements in car safety are proven by experts to be highly effective in reducing accidents, insurance companies would adjust their pricing accordingly to reward consumers with savings,” says the website’s director of market insights Alysssa Connolly.“Unfortunately that’s not the case because the sophisticated technology is more expensive to fix, and because humans driving these cars are often lulled into a false sense of security and can actually become more careless.”

Why Buying A Car With High-Tech Safety Features Won't Make Your Auto Insurance Cheaper

2012 Mitsubishi Outlander XLS to 2019 Kia Sorento SXL saved me money.
2012 Acura TL SH-AWD to G70 coste money.
It's a wash anyway. Whatever I saved on the Sorento is going back towards the G70.

Contradicts what my agent told me, but it's probably just different for different companies. I know a lot of people say you should get a better discount shopping around, but every time I've shopped around, my current carrier has been way cheaper than others. So maybe I'm just lucky where I am.

One carrier I had for four years jacked my rate considerably in year five. They evidently do this with the idea that after four years with no claims I was due for "the big one". My agent found new coverage before I could even call them.

Hope that doesn't happen to me. Been with the same place for 6 years now. Although it sounds like from what Beefer has been saying. This car is worth the extra premiums lol.

My insurance decreased rates after a certain number of years without accidents.
