  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The GV70 Trailer Hitch Discussion

Can someone with the hitch measure how much space there is between the top of the hitch and the bottom of the black plastic diffuser? I am putting the ADRO carbon fiber kit on mine and thinking I am going to have to fab a custom hitch (going to make one I can remove quick and easy

From what I can tell, there is an upcharge for original Genesis accessories on the genesispartsandaccessories.com site. I compared prices on several accessories from the website and local dealers. For example, 2022 Genesis GV70 Reversible Cargo Tray (H001) costs $169 on the website and is $145 at the dealers. My guess is that the upcharge is for "free shipping."
www.genesispartsandaccessories.com is run by Garvey Hyundai/Genesis of Queensbury. Hyundai and Genesis do not sell direct to the public. All those parts site you look at are run by one dealer or another somewhere.

I see as little as 3/8" from the top of the tube to the bottom of the diffuser.

At the rear of the receiver hitch shank, it's about 5/8 inch and front of the hitch shank down to 3/8.

There's not a whole lot of space.

I got my hitch on Monday and installed it on Friday and used it yesterday. The install really isn't bad. I did mine in a little over two hours solo. The only frustrating part was lining up a couple of the harder to reach holes and getting the bolts through to thread.

Those waiting for the wiring harness. Get a universal wiring kit. I had two gv80's and had to use the universal kit. They did not include trailer connections in the GV80 even though they do come in the SanteFe and Palisaids. You have to pull the tail lights and splice into the wiring, and run a line to the battery. In the GV80 not so hard as the battery is in the rear.

Can you share a link to the kit?

Just an FYI, you may want to watch the video on etrailer of the GV80 wiring harness installation. I don't think the GV70 rear lights are the same as the GV80 (I may be wrong). So, you may not be able to reach the wiring in the same way and you may not have the same space to install the small isolation box.

Just a heads up... the official "Tow Hitch Harness" for the GV70 is now available for order in the US: see this link

I placed my order and was told that it might take a week or two to arrive. Fingers crossed...

I ordered mine as well. I looked at the install instructions, looks pretty involved, will have it professional installed.

If anyone finds this here in the states, please post link here, thanks.
Genesis accessories has them now. They're $680 with the light harness, and $500 just for the hitch. I installed mine at a uHaul for $150, since the dealer was unavailable in a timely manner and this was not a big job.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
There almost looks like a hinge point on the left and right side. A bolt seems to attach them. Any idea what this is about?
thanks

Ordered a receiver on Tuesday and picked it up at my local dealer today. Price was $382.50 after they gave me a 15% discount. I installed it today with the help of my son in about an hour. Pretty easy to do. Clear instructions for the tech are located at this page:

I took off the exhaust hangers easily with a pry bar instead of an exhaust hanger removal tool. You can rotate them off of the frame much easier than trying to get them off the muffler.

It looks like there are 3 bolts on each side that would allow the horizontal section to be easily removed. Is that true? Can the horizontal bar easily removed and reinstalled?

thanks

Would you have to remove the exhaust hangers each time to reach the bolt holes on each side? Hope this question makes sense.

thanks

It wouldn't be difficult to remove and reinstall. I think the exhaust hangers would be ok to leave in place. However, there is a specific tightening sequence. I think it would be difficult to reinstall unless you loosen the bolts that hold the brackets to the frame of the vehicle. When tight, the crossbar is compressed and you would have a hard time getting it back on. If you were to loosen the bolts holding the cross bar to the bracket, you'd need to use some force to get the bar out, then loosen the bolts to the frame to squeeze it back in, then tighten everything in sequence back to specified torque.

My concern would be if you were to do this frequently, you may cause some issues with the bolts welded into the vehicle chassis. If you were to strip those out, it would be a tough $$$ fix.

I too am looking for a hitch receiver for a bike rack. Not to shade anyone here, but that hitch doesn't look like something that belongs on a Genesis. I would have thought they could have tucked it up better especially on the outboard ends without having brackets and bolts hanging out. I realize it seems to be the only game in town as of now, but hoping Drawtite or some other manufacturer comes out with something a little better looking.

Rumor has it that Stealth is working on a GV70 hitch. I'd drop them an e-mail encouraging them to do it...

I installed two Curt hitches on two GV80. Much better looking than the factory unit. Only hope they get moving with one for the GV70.

One thing I noticed is that Hyundai doesn't seem to care to integrate a hitch into the design of their cars.

I called Stealth Hitches a few days ago. Unfortunately, they cannot manufacture a hitch for the GV70 because there is not enough space between the mufflers and rear bumper.
