If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have put over 1000 miles on the Equus now and have come across a few things that are different than the 2010 Genesis I had before. Not just accessory features but things that are a little different and not in the brochure. Thought i would share -

1. The keyless entry - has the same key FOB but the doors open just by touching the handle of the door. No need to push the black button. I am still getting used to this because I question whether I have truly locked the car.

2. The mirrors fold electronically. If you push the lock button on the FOB twice quickly, the mirrors fold in. I don't think I can set them to fold automatically when I stop the car - at least I cant figure out how.

3. There does not seem to be a key FOB holder in the car to use if your battery in the remote dies. If there is one, I have not found it yet.

4. The phonebook works! I could never get the phonebook to download on the iphone 4 with my 2010 Genesis 4.6 Tech. Now it works flawlessly. There are more options to choose in the Equus DIS - most of them for car settings like suspension. There is an option in the phone address menu to "download phone book". I dont remember that in the Genesis. Works great.

5. On the dash cluster there is a color screen that gives trip information, etc. like the Genesis. What is new is the color directions and turn indicators that are shown in the cluster LCD when using the NAV system. Very similar to my previous '07 Merc E350. Nice touch.

Overall the car drives very nicely and is smooth with the same wonderful acceleration of the Genesis. The feel of the car is definitely "bigger" - similar to the difference you would feel test driving an E class, then immediately testing an S class. Feels more sporty than the wife's LS430 but many of the same characteristics.

Only problem so far is a few paint nicks on the the rear door sills. Both in the same place on either rear door. I saw in the Genesis forum that there were a few complaints about soft paint in that area. Will get the dealer to take a look at it when I go back to get the ipad manual.

Any other surprising features anyone has found?

Re #1:
You don't even have to touch the handle to unlock the car, putting your hand between the door and handle does it.
Nice feature: all doors unlock this way, even the rears.

I've only got 950 miles on it in 2 months, but have a 2500 mile trip coming in a month. I'll post a recap after that, but for now...

1. The major difference to me is the ride (versus 2009 Gen). Sooo much smoother! And I didn't mind the Gen ride at all.
2. Much better in snow. Tires, weight, who knows? But a definite sense of security over the Gen.
3. Per your mirrors comment, I fold them in before pulling into my garage using the "fold mirrors" button. I too don't know if there's a setting to make it auto, as there were sub zero days I didn't want to risk breaking the mechanism so haven't looked yet.
4. If the Gen did this I never noticed, but approaching the car in the dark illuminates the ground quite dramatically. Sometimes I delay opening the door just to look at the effect.
5. Last one: nobody ever mistook my Gen for a Mercedes. That's happened 3 times now. Hee.

Re: number 4 - my 2011 4.6 Genesis has the " download phonebook " in the phone section of the DIS.

Key FOB holder is in the glove box right below the trunk lockout button on the upper left hand side.

Great comments. Please keep them up.

What is the differences in gas mileage? What's the best at highway cruise? Around town?

No doubt the ride is much smoother, especially with the air suspension.
I could tell the overall ride comfort is going to be better, even without driving the actual vehicle.
Everything seemed so solid.
I'm jealous. :)
While it shares some similarities with the Genesis, it's a totally different animal.

For gas mileage....

I just finished a mostly highway trip with 1200 miles on the engine. Got 23.8 mpg. Not quite as good as the Genesis but we'll see how it goes after some more miles.

Do they change the gas formulation in your area for the summer? They do here and it adds a good 2-3 MPG. Mileage sucks with the winter grade.
Also, can't wait to remove the extra 160 pounds from the trunk April 1. That will help too...

What's in the trunk? Your cheating wife? Your snotty assed teenage son?

On the gas mileage, I should have stated the grade as well. I have been running on straight regular 87 octane - I dont know if it is winter formulation. I am in Houston so maybe it is the warmer weather formula?

In Houston traffic with lots of stop and start, then some highway stretches I am getting about 18.8. I am still going to need to do a few more tanks to get a better sense, since driving situations change quite a bit.

Great tip on the FOB holder in the glove box. I did not notice it before. Thanks.

I wrote some of these in another post...

The daytime running lights-and when you signal for a turn the daytime running light on that side goes off as long as signal is on.

If your car has to apply the brakes when using smart cruise control, the brake lights on the little display car (on the dash) come on.

There are lights on the underside of the outside mirrors that come on when you approach the car-and no the Genesis didn't have those (BTHBC coudn't recall)

When you close the car door, much more solid feeling, dontcha think?

The manual suggests that you put the suspension on "high" for rough roads and for ease of getting in and out of car...I do find it is easier to get out with the car a little higher...the added bonus is if someone else is around the car when you do it.

The ride (as was mentioned before) is the BIG difference.

Oh, I went on a long trip using interstate exclusively and got 27 mph with premium gas. I get 19 to 20 mph regular driving*

*if my husband drives the car, I will not guarantee the validity of the mileage stated above.

i just saw my first equus on the road 2 nights ago in Westchester NY on I684. It was black with the hyundai logo on the back, the car looked so damn sweet!!!!!

Cute story:
Guy with a 2007 Lexus LS 460, 31,000 miles walks into my dealer to see the Equus. Says upfront that "if this thing is 3/4 the ride of my car I'm in". A 20 minute test drive later he bought it, raving about the ride.
Though why, with only 31K, I can't figure out...

Another thing I noticed about the Equus this weekend. In the overhead light fixture above the front seats is a small embedded blue LED that shines as a dim cabin light when the lights are on to light the cabin while driving. Our LS has it as well. The blue led stays on after exiting the car and even locking it - it does turn off at some point but I dont know how long it stays on. Nice touch...

Nice thread. I'm a Sonata owner and looking to trade it for a Genesis or possibly an Equus in the future, so this is very interesting.

I guess the major difference is the size, no? Based on the differences highlighted so far, the disparity in price don’t really seen justifiable for my needs, in other words, overerall the genesis seemed to be a better value, especially with the new engine option, but I will keep researching. They are both certainly nice!

They're both "value" options, competing in different classes.
