  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tilt Telescopic Steering Wheel

Well mine went to the dealer today for its second replair of this problem. I don't know what they are doing but I'll let you all know what happens!

Well I have had three swithces replaced on my 2010 4.6. Dealer finally gave up and has now replaced the entire steering column! If this doesn't work, I don't know what they will suggest next. I am getting pretty fed up with this whole issue. Dealer has been absolutely fantastic supplying a car each time it is in for repair. Hyundai Canada needs to get its act together pretty damn soon or else! I am really getting p*ssed off. Otherwise the car is absolutely phenomenal.

Well the dealer is ordering a second switch. We'll see what happens then. You would think that with all this trouble, Hyundai would find a solution and do a recall. I get a loaner car every time too so it has to be really costing them!

Second switch has been installed and all seems to be working fine for now. I mentioned to the dealer that others still continue to have this problem but they told me that mine is the first to require a second switch. All the others were resolved with just one switch replacement. We'll see.

Gee what a surprise yours is the only car with the continuing problem

Typical dealer speak, it's the customer fault not the dealer or manufacturer

I just return home from 10 days on the road with my New Genny. Sometimes the sterring wheel worked sometimes just half way, sometimes not at all.

So today I went out to find out what the problem was.
I found out that when I hit the button to turn off the car and the sterring wheel was moving I unbuttoned the seat belt the sterring wheel stop.
Also I checked opening the door before the cycle had completed. the sterring wheel also stop. Then I tried letting the cycle finish before I exited the car or un buckle the seat belt. The sterring wheel worked fine. I just think I was to fast for the car. Its probably a safety feature.
Check your cars out and see if this doesn't fix your problems

I posted similar post. I have let my complete the cycle and have not had the problem. Had the problem one time when I took the car out of park before cycle was complete.

2011 3.8 Premium. 600 miles and I'm having steering column problems. Intermittently goes in and up when turned off and has a mind of it's own when the car is started. On my way to Miami for a cruise so when I get back in 10 days it's going to the dealer.

I had hoped they solved the column problems in the 2011 but I guess not. If I have as many problems as others have reported the 3 strikes and you're out will apply. Never had a lemon and hope this one isn't going to be the first.

Second trip to the dealer for the telescoping steering wheel problem. Same as before- the range of motion got small and smaller since they replaced my steering column the first time.

This time, they "actuated" the steering column. I don't know what that means, but it has resolved the issue at the moment. Now we wait and see if the problem reoccurs like last time.

Can you ask your dealer what he means by "acctuate the steering column." It may help the rest of us that are still having problems.

My 2010 3.8 is going back to the dealer today for the 6th attempt at repairing the tilt on the steering wheel. The last fix, the dealer said that they found a bad ground. The fix lasted about five weeks (about five times as long as the first 4 tries) but still this has to be corrected at some point. The dealer has been asking for one more fix attempt over and over so I won't file for lemon law protection. This dealer says they haven't had a lemon in 6 years. Since this is the 4th car I have purchased from them, and the first one with a problem, I have been giving them chance after chance, but this is it. I have researched the Florida Lemon law and have taken the first step by contacting the dealership management with a certified letter. If this last attempt at a fix doesn't work then I am sending off the forms to Hyundai and the Attorney General asking for lemon law protection. I have never done this before so I will let you know what the process is like and what the final outcome is.

The invoice actually says "2300 Actuated Steering Column Soled [sic] Problem".

I am going back in a week or two to fix the power driver's seat; it was making the same grinding noise another post described. If the steering wheel is still working well, I'll see if I can get an explanation.

3000Km and my steering won't tilt up as far as it used to. Thankfully, it is at a spot which I am comfortable with. I am really suprised that I got this issue. Figured all this would have been resolved with 2009s.

Add me to the list of people who are having problems with the tilt steering. Mine is stuck in the UP position and won't move down at all. It had been sporadic before the TSB was performed last week. It worked fine for about 10 minutes and then stopped altogether. I'm taking it in again this week as the head tech thinks he knows what to do to fix it now. I sure hope so! Between this and my driver's seat movement issues (back & forth), I'm really getting sick of taking this thing in!

Just got the car back today and they fixed it! Said the person who did the work last week just didn't get it put back in correctly. So all is well again. Plus they fixed my driver's seat problem where it wouldn't move back at times. Thanks for everyone's help on this.

Well I started to have the problem again about two weeks ago. I'm calling the dealer and I've read in another post that a new (mid-December) switch has come out that is suppose to resolve this issue!

Yes they have a new control module which they claim corrects the porblem on a permanent basis. It also corrects memory seat issues so they claim.

As I posted elsewhere it is a "new" module that has been availble only a few weeks.

Good luck.

Taking my 2011 4.6 in on Monday for tilt problem. Less than 3000 miles and the wheel only moves up and down about 2". Only problem so far.

Dropped car off this morning. They put in a new steering column. Now it goes up and down but won't retract or extend. Waiting on second column to come in (hopefully tomorrow).

Those of you who had a new switch or control module installed, any idea of the part numbers? They are telling me they can only replace the entire column and not just a switch.

Wondering if they missed something in a TSB.
