  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tinting taillights

Haha, i love the irony of that.

I also love that slogan, or whatever you want to call it. It's so metal. "Live free or DIIIIEEEE!!!"

:headbang:
Yeah, no seat belt or helmet law either. I call it "Live Free and Die". 😉

Although its always incumbent on someone behind you to maintain a safe following distance, if a rear ending accident occurs and the person makes a claim that they could not see your tail lights because they are so heavily tinted...you could all the sudden find yourself in a situation where you have to pay a ticket, and in some states you can share some liability in the accident. something to think about

As nice as it makes the car look, I think they will be a real danger in daily (not necessarily night time) driving. Odds are probably high that in bright daily, most folks behind you will never see the actual brake lights light up. I think you're asking for many problems down the road.

Just make sure to do the LED swap for the bulbs and you'll probably be fine

So "probably be fine" is good enough? to paraphase the commercial.:giggle:

It looks lighter than the photos. I used the lamin x in mid, not dark. The shop had a light, mid and dark option. You can still see the reverse light through the film without lights. You can also still see red bleed through the film without lights. When the lights are illuminated, they are bright, I have no safety concern or it would get removed. The windows also appear darker in the photo, but they are 20 percent. The car color is the Siberian ice not white. I have black interior as well so the tint will appear darker than the lighter interior.

Just ordered Lamin X taillight covers. Most basic "Tint" option. They have a 20% off deal going on right now, I couldn't resist!!

I'll post a before and after, along with installation process.
Hi Todd,

I like the tint you used on your rear lights. With that faint tint, does it dim the light at all?
Was scrolling through some of the posts, I apologize if I missed it!
thanks.

Todd was the most entertaining, intelligent and car knowledgeable member of the board, in my opinion. He offered free advice to all on innumerable issues.Deep mechanical skills and experience. However he sold his car and moved on a few months ago.

Oh wow, yes he was so helpful! Shame to hear that. He seemed to have a good thing going with that G70.

Me too. I'm thinking of doing some clear smoke plasti-dip, then adding some glossifier. Hopefully it will make it look like the rest of the dark chrome.
How do the badges look now? I do love the dark chrome you have looks sick:) I have white but normal chrome or I would try this too unless I take all the chrome & plastidip it but that would be a big job lol, may do that eventually tho. I did just buy all the stuff to smoke the lights (spray/clear & cut/polish but considering holding off after reading these, atleast check my state laws first I suppose lol

"I tint my taillights so they work less" is the ONLY way i can think about this. Yeah bro, your car looks sick. And less people can see you at night. Really cool and you made the right choice, especially when you get rear ended!
