  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

tire blow out

I've got 15k miles on my original Conti tires with no problems I live in Washington state though and the roads are pretty good. I also run them at about 37 psi cold. I doubt I'll keep it come trade in time but if I do I'll negotiate new tires.

After having a double tire blowout from hitting a jagged pothole at 75mph (car was fully loaded with stuff too) with my original Conti's, I decided to inflate to 40psi cold and have not had any issues since (30,000K since that time). I now avoid potholes as much as possible or at least hit the brakes before negotiating the potholes. I'm not convinced that the Conti's are the problem but more so the weight of the Genesis. There's just not enough sidewall travel when hitting a sharp object for the rubber not to get pinched between the road and the rim without a higher pressure than the recommended IMHO.

I have had five damaged tires so far on my G80 sport. Pirelli and Conental. These Very Low profile are not suited for the weight on the front when you hit a pot hole or hard surface.

High performance tires are a stronger sidewall. Ever since I switched over to Michelin Pilot Sport 3+ no tire issues.

I'm glad my base G80 came with non-staggered 18" wheels.

It looks like the stock Contis are Procontact, "grand touring" rated. There are also Contis available for this vehicle that are rated as "ultra high performance". These are the Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06. I've had these now on 3 different cars (2011 Genesis 4.6, 2002 Lincoln Continental, 2010 Jaguar XKR) and not had any issues whatsoever. The only car that they were really low profile, a 2010 Jag XKR (same size tires as the G90) I have only a 1000 or so miles on so not the most miles to base a recommendation on. Perhaps the Extreme Contact have harder sidewalls due to the higher performance rating. I don't know if it's fair to blast the entire Conti brand based on one application here. I will likely replace the OEM Contis with the Extreme contact variety when the time comes.

Yes I agree! Also the continentals dws 06 have a higher weight rating than the continental pro contact. I am also going to stay with Conti Dws 06 👍

I can't stress enough that the original tires equipped on the Genesis was the Hankook Ventus. It is a UHPAS tire.

I had a sidewall bubble on my left front (Conti Pro Contact) with 20K miles from hitting a low curb head on at about 20 mph, I had both front tires replaced with Conti Extreme Contact DWS 6 at Discount Tire's suggestion. One change I noticed is that the lane keep assist is much smoother, less erratic and squirrelly than with the OEM Conti Pro Contacts.

What about the ride quality compared to the oems?

My tires are due for replacement soon and deciding between Conti Extreme Contact DWS 6 and the Michelin (always my tires of preference) Pilot Sports. If anyone can post which Michelin tire is ideal for this car (live in the sunbelt) that would be great!

What do you have on there now, and are all four the same, or staggered? The current 4-up 245/45R18 tire Genesis is using on the base G80 is the Michelin Primacy MXM4, but it's pricey, $232 at Discount Tire. The Primacy is a 55,000 mile tire, A Traction, Pilot Sport is 45,000, AA traction and cost a bit less.

Oem is a staggered setup. People here have referred to different Michelins being used, the Pilot Sport A/S 3 which is an all season tire I believe, and also the Pilot Super Sport 3 and 4 which is a summer performance tire. Is there a general consensus on which is the best replacement tire for the G90?

I put a set of Goodyear Assurance Comfortred tires on my Jag XJ8. 80,000 mile tread lidf warranty, great wet road performance, very quiet and have wonderful ride quality. Will be my first choice when it comes time for new tires.

I will also be looking at the Vredesteins as an alternative. They make GREAT tires
