  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tire recall V6 only

I have the V6 and got new tires. They said my car did not have the bad tires, but they replaced those anyway. They agreed to before I purchased so they were more motivated to make sure they would sell the car.

They were wrong or BS'ing you.

The TSB says all 2015 Hankook equipped cars can be replaced at the customers request. Why anyone would do that before driving on the Hankook's is beyond me - with so many not having issues with the Hankook's, it is throwing away a free set of tires when you want them over the next 3 years.

Thanks...........you can always count on the U.S. N A V Y :)

Well, since you put it that way...

The TSB includes dealer-specific instructions (other than pages 1&2 I already uploaded). I tried selectively deleting and compressing some of this to make the TSB as small possible to upload here, but wasn't able to accomplish that. HOWEVER, the following 3 pages (especially the 1st page) includes very important information Genesis owners should be aware of.

Very useful and appreciated. I did not see the term of this campaign in those additional pages, so will assume it is for three years as shown on some letters.

I'm curious to see what tires the 2016s ship with, and separately I'm curious to see if the service bulletin and/or the issues continue with 2016.

I received the letter yesterday regarding the tire replacement. I have the 2015 AWD. The two pertinent parts of the letter are 1)Hyundai will replace the Hankook tires with Michelin Primacy MXM4.

AND, 2)"...These tires are speed rated for 130 miles per hour...Please note that because the maximum speed rating is slight lower (20 miles per hour) than the original Hankook tires, we will also perform a minor update to your engine control computer, changing maximum speed of your Genesis from 150 to 130 miles per hour."

Any thoughts on the potential problems when they start messing with the computer? :(

While having the cowl safety recall resolved, I was told by the dealer service rep. that the tires needed to be replaced. Two weeks after having all four Hankook tires replaced with Michelins I received a letter from Hyundai recommending the tire replacement and ALTERATION of my car's computer to change top speed from 150 to 130. If I had known that they were going to tinker with the computer I would not have had those tires replaced. The service rep. made NO mention of the computer alteration when I dropped off the car for tire replacement.

Before receiving the letter from Hyundai and after having the tires replaced I noticed that the car does not accelerate as it did previously, hesitates and has a mushy gas pedal--especially in ECO driving mode. The car also makes a humming noise after I let off the gas and slow down. I am very unhappy about the timing of the letter and the lack of explanation from the Hyundai service rep. that my car's computer was going to be altered.

Had a conversation with the Hyundai customer service rep from the tel. no. provided in the letter 1-877-378-8727, was told that she did not like my attitude and hung up on me.

I have an appt. next week "for tests" with the Hyundai dealer where I have my Genesis serviced, but have already been told that they will not set my computer back to top speed of 150 because of those Michelins rated at 130 mph.

Because of the recalls and POOR communication from Hyundai, a happy purchase of the 2015 Genesis has now become a regret.

The ECU "flash" to limit top speed is just that - it should have no impact on acceleration, hesitation, etc., at lower speeds - so, if you truly have a real issue, it must be something else? But I agree, they should have told you that they would be doing that top speed reduction when they advised you to swap the tires AND they should NOT have told the the tire swap was required - it's completely optional!

I'm currently driving a 3.8 AWD loaner with Michelin's while my 3.8 AWD is in having the sunroof replaced. I notice absolutely no difference in throttle response. I do actually find the Michelins to provide a better ride (less harsh on bumps) versus my Hankooks, though.

I did not imagine or dream-up the diminished acceleration after the fact: prior to being informed/realizing that the computer had been altered I noticed a difference in the car's performance.

The coordination and communication between corporate Hyundai Motor America and their dealerships is sorely lacking.

The engine and transmissions computers "learn" your driving style. That probably all got reset when they flashed the computer. Maybe you just need to go hot-foot it a while.

Not suggesting you're imagining anything, but the ECU flash to govern the allowable top speed to a lower value would have not cause the issues you describe. I'm driving a flashed loaner and it behaves exactly like my non-flashed Genesis in term of throttle response. So, they must have screwed something else up...

Good point - possible explanation.

I have a .pdf copy of TSB #15-01-P18-1, GENESIS SEDAN (DH) TIRE REPLACEMENT (SELECT CAR CARE-P18), downloaded from the Hyundai service site, but it's too large to upload as an attachment here (3,956 KB). If someone has a site where I can post it, I'll post it there.

I can host it if you want. PM me if you still need this done and I will get you into my ftp server. From there I will link it on the web server.

I had asked Sal (who runs this site) about setting up a sticky for all the TSB's. This would be a great candidate, I think.

If you agree you might want to PM him about it.

Had my car in for the cowl replacement and the 15,000 mi check-up. Decided to get the tires changed out. I really did not have any issues with the Hankook's, although I did experience flatspotting vibration in the colder months (and sometimes on colder evenings in the other seasons). The Michelin's seems to be fine - I think they actually give a slightly smoother ride. I do detect some different road noise from them - I won't say it is louder, just different. I have experienced no vibration issues at any speeds (in town and highway driving). Only time will tell if the cold weather flatspotting is better with the new tires.

I drive a new (780 miles) Genesis, 3.8 and had my new Michelin tires put on today by the dealer, free of charge. Michelin MVM4's.

I just got the letter about the recall, have not had any special problems with Hankooks, and am wondering if anyone knows whether the "minor update to the engine control computer to change the maximum speed from 150 to 130 mph" would have any other effect on acceleration or performance other than limiting top end. I don't expect to go 150 but hate to be told I can't.

My dealer suggests that I wait until my original tires need replacing before I come in for the new ones.

My dealer told me I had to get them changed. I took the car in for the cowl water issue. Well after driving the Genny for the past few day, I hate the Michelin tires. I feel like I'm driving an old school Cadillac. Way to soft of a ride, the sporty feeling is no longer there. I'm not happy at all. I know that the Hankook's are Ultra All Seasons but to me this is night and day difference in a bad way.

I still have the Hankooks on my 3.8 AWD, but have been driving a 3.8 AWD loaner with the Michelins for the last 2 weeks. I share your general observations - the Michelins are softer riding, but the Hankooks are noticeably better handling/more "grippy" and provide a sporty feel that is lost with the Michelins!

The dealer was wrong - the replacement plan is a consumer optional offer and clearly states that in the letter sent to effected owners. You needed to approve that swap and i would let them know they removed and destroyed a part of the car you owned. Tell them to swap out another car on the lots Hankook's.
