I may have found a way to turn ESC OFF completely WITHOUT loosing GPS, speedometer, etc... I say that because today I did it.:p

The only thing I noticed was the cruise control did not work anymore and I could NOT put the ESC back on. (It always stays OFF) I had to shut the car down and restart it for it to become normal again.

I'm not going to write how I did it unless one of the mods tells me it's ok.
I did doughnuts today for the 1st time.

This V8 is scary!!!

PINGGOLF, write to me please.

ummmm...... please tell. put a little disclaimer or something..... I want to do donuts!

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

I'm with ASHDUMP. I've discussed this with PINGGOLF offline, but could not duplicate his experience (fuse removal). I'd like to know how to disengage this feature.

WOW,

I'm surprised at how little attention this is getting compared to the original thread about removing the ESC fuse to let her rip.
I thought everyone would want to try this...well, anyways here goes...

Disclaimer, * WARNING * this procedure is not recommended or endorse by either Hyundai or the owners of this site, I have no responsibility whatsoever on the outcome of these tests, please DO NOT TOUCH your vehicle as doing so may cause any number malfunctions and you alone will hold full responsibility of your actions.

I am not associated with Hyundai in any way and have no prior knowledge of inter working of any specific part of the Genesis electronics. Personally, I am purely looking into the problem as engineering enthusiast who wishes to understand how things work.
********************************************************************************************

Very easy.
1. Start the car
2. Pull the 10a ESC fuse
3. Press the ESC button inside the car
4. Put the fuse back in
5. DONE...Please be careful...your monster is unleashed

As I said...The cruise control does not work anymore
You CANNOT engage ESC till you restart the car.

I apologize for those who PM'd me for not getting back. I wrote this because no came back to me and I copied what PINGGOLF put in his thread about pulling the fuse.

Good luck and let me know if this works for you.

Regards,

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

QCTLG - Awesome - can't wait to try it!

One question.. Does it last beyond one cycle of running the car or would you have to go through the sequence each time you start it?

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

Awesome!!!!!!

Great news! Gonna have to go try it myself :)

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

So you are saying I can run a wire from the end of the fuse to a new switch labeled "soiled my underwear" and back to the fuse. This would work the same except you would not physically need to remove the fuse as the switch would break the contact while you do the rest of the procedure. :D

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

Midnightsun,

That's EXACTLY what I'm going to do.
switch on...esc off...switch off...
BINGO.

Very easily done.;)

HOLY SCHMOKES!

Its Monday AM and I just logged on to see this thread! Man, if this works, you may very well be the KING of ESC!!! Sorry Davidearl!

How easy would that be to run an inline fuse to a switch!!!

The wifey poo is working tonight so it will be the PERFECT opportunity to give it a go!

If I remember correctly, there are 2 (two) ECS fuses, which one did you pull? Its been a while...:)

Ill report back either late this evening or first thing in the morning!

CANT WAIT!!!:D

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

On my 4.6 it's labeled "ESP"

See picture below. The fuse box is located under the hood on the passenger side.

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

Great! Looks like an easy mod!

Something like this should work great!

The only question would be as to how we will get the wires through the firewall and where to put a switch. I would probably go with a simple SMALL red push button that you can find at Radio Shack.

So...basically we can hit and HOLD the red button, hit ESC OFF, release the red button and be good to go...right? Then when we are done showing off, we can simply restart the car!

One other thing, the switch should be "normally closed."

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

Please excuse my ignorance for this question...

I know what the ESC does and I know why Hyundai puts it in the car. It doesn't limit our access to horsepower nor does it add any. So aside for doing burnouts or doughnuts what does removing the stability control actually do?

Awesome question!

Have you punched your car at a red light or in a turn or pulled out in front of someone and punched it only to hit your head on the steering wheel when the ESC kicks in? Now, you are waiting/begging for the ESC to let go so you can GO as the car aiming for your butt gets closer and closer. Then the ESC lets go and you slam your head on the headrest and the people behind you are already cussing you, flipping you off and flashing their lights.

HA!

With this option, YOU can manage the throttle and get a better run either at the stop light or at a track. If you are truly racing and manage to activate the ESC....you are done. May as well, just put it in reverse and get off the track.

However, if you are the type who's never raced, burned out, or revved the car past 5000 RPM, this mod will be useless to you.

Thanks for your question because Im sure others were thinking it!!! ;)

Yes I have had that happen... and some times I look for it to happen! But I was under the impression that the ESC was only kicking in because I would otherwise be spinning my wheels?

With turning ESC off I would then be able to maybe chirp first gear or something comparable?

Correct! The ESC is also known as a "nanny." Traction, is a MUST in any situation and when traction is lost, the NANNY steps in to say..."Hey, wait a minute....if you dont know how to drive with little or no traction...I will MAKE YOU HAVE TRACTION!" Some cars ESC is more disabling than others and by far, the Genesis is the worst I have seen yet. The Genesis is totally diabled when the nanny kicks in which can be even more deadly than not having it at all.

Spinning your wheels in not always a bad thing when you know how to handle it but an over compensated ESC system will ruin any hopes of a quick getaway.

I dont mind the ESC...especially in wet/snowy conditions because it actually helps...but here in the south, I have no use for it!

With turning ESC off I would then be able to maybe chirp first gear or something comparable?

When ESC is truly off, via the mod below, YOU take full ownership of the throttle. If you want to chirp...chirp away, if you want to ball the tires...smoke em, if you want to drift a corner, drift away!

Just remember that you are on your own and if you over do it, especially in a corner, the Nanny will not step in and say "settle down son" but the DITCH will let you know!

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

Hmmm sounds fun!

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

Whoever does this first - Would love to see some step-by-step (with photos) for those of us not mechanically inclined!

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

I love PING's responese!!!!

....I ran a kill switch for my amp in the glove box. It's just dangling inside there out of the way. I did this so I didn't have to drill any holes in the dash/console etc..

I wouldn't mind doing this Mod either....

Re: Turning ESC off ...for real

Here we go!

GCTLG-----PROPS TO YOU MAN FOR AN AWESOME JOB! I dont want to steal any of your thunder...its all YOU!

My findings:

I did not have the opportunity to try it out last night...as I kinda forgot. EEEK!

So I got to work this morning and opened up the thread again to read some additional comments.

Well, I couldnt stand it...so at lunch I crunk the car, popped the hood, removed the ESP fuse, hit the ESC button and reinstalled the fuse. I then shut the hood and got in the car.

Initially, I was kinda skeptical until I saw the ESC light continuously lit. Then I thought...well, he may have just cracked the code!

I lowered the windows and took off making sure I didnt spin while inside the compound here at work.:o I made it to the traffic light and took a left turn heading for some lunch. I patiently waited at the red light with butterflies in my stomach and then the light turned green. Well, my patience ran thin so I slammed the throttle to the floor...HOLY SMOKES!!!!:eek: As I drifted around the corner IN 2ND GEAR into a beautiful transition I think I may have pinched one off (TOOTED)...as well as the driver behind me...HA!:p

I thought to myself...I just want to give QCTLG a good ole butt slap like they do in football and say "Good Job Son!" (I'm not gay, by the way)

Anywho, the plus side to this is EVERYTHING WORKED...EVEN THE CRUISE CONTROL!!!

LETS DO THIS!!!
