  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Urgent v6 tire replacement advice

And the 150 mph rating does not match a W-rated tire.

I thought I made this clear in the post. The speed limitations on the Genesis do not exactly match the top-speed of the tire class.

And no I won't go easy on the lecture.

Anyone who posts facts is helping. Whether you or I agree with their opinions is another matter.

This thread was started by someone who needed facts to help make a decision. Give the guy facts and if you have an opinion, don't state it as fact.

Several replies represented conjecture and speculation as being fact.

That does not help anyone.

I will be so glad when someone actually replaces the V6 tires, so we can have some intelligent discussion to add to the facts.

Hey bud... You have another agenda besides the straw man one you keep stating?

In this case, I first let this poster know about the speed change.. That was fact.. Or are you trying to argue that was not factual? And they are lowering the speed limit to the H rated speed.

In other posts on this topic I already discussed tire ratings and the industry letter designations.

Be authentic and really say what your issue is.. It is not the conclusion you state.

My issue is that you are presenting half-truths as fact. That's it.

I don't have the new Michelins, so all I know is what I read.

You did not tell the original poster that his vehicle will get reset to "H-rated speed". You told him he would get H-rated tires and that the speed will be lowered to H-rated speed. Those are different things.

You did not give him facts so he could make an informed decision. BTW, the tires are V-rated according to Michelin. At least that's what they say.

Yes the speed is set to less than the top V-rated speed, just like the speed on the 19' wheels is limited to less than the max speed rating for W-tires.

The truth is that the max speed of the car will be lowered to 130 mph. The tires, according to www.tirerack.com and every other on-line source will be V-rated. Wow, that was easy to say.

You should try it. Truth is easy.

I continue to be interested in hearing from persons on the forum who have actual experience with both the Hankook and Michelin tires helping others make informed decisions.

I will leave the haters to be hatin'.

This is my last post on the topic, until I actually get a set of Michelins, if that is indeed what I choose to do.

Party on, Garth.

More straw man lies. Using the communist term "haters". Nice try.. Tha false term is wearing thin with people. Your "last post" after a drive by"hater" comment attack.. Easy to predict that.

As I mentioned previously, many Michelin tire models come in more than one speed rating. It depends on the exact tire size to determine the speed rating of a Michelin tire, even if the tire model is the same. In some cases, Michelin offers two different speed ratings for the exact same tire model and exact same size. The Michelin website shows the various tire sizes and speed ratings available.

I first discovered this because the Michelin Primacy MVX4 tires I have on my first generation Genesis V6 (not part of the Hyundai replacement program for 2015's) comes in both H and V speed ratings for the exact same tire model and tire size.

Hey.. Quit telling "the truth"... 😇 gets in the way of the drive by shouters..

I guess V6 owners will find out one way or other. Conventional history shows the H have better tire life ratings due to less sticky compound than seems to be the makeup of the V and higher ratings. For some that may be preferred. Especially those who do not drive them hard and could care less about speed limit settings on their car.

I just had the Michelins put on today. They are Primacy MXM4 and the speed rating is V. I like them and mine are very smooth as the installer did a great job balancing them. The ride does feel a bit more smooth as these tires absorb bumps a bit better with the less stiff sidewalls which is great for me. They sound very quiet as well at speeds up to 77 mph but any new tire really should be quite unless it's a snow tire etc. For my driving preferences this will be a better tire I feel.

I spoke to the service manager at the dealership that I use today. He has still not been informed by Hyundai when the tire recall with expire.

I just got my Tire letter today. I'm not exercised over the speed rating, but when I used Tirerack compare on the Primacy MXM4 versus the Ventus S1 Noble 2 (who dreams up these names?), I found that the Michelin was off the Hankook in just about every category by a decimal point or two. In noise it was four points. Now I've experienced flat spotting for a few minutes on cold days but it's not worth it to me to switch to a possibly inferior tire, especially one that may be noisier all the time. Couple that with my totally subjective bias against all things Michelin and I think I will pass. I don't see an act by or expiration date on the letter.

Hankook is a Korean company, but they have plants around the world (including Tennessee). I would bet that the Ventus S1 Noble 2 installed as OEM on the Genesis is made in Korea (or outside the US), but perhaps the ones sold in the US (with customer reviews on Tirerack.com) are made in Tennessee, and maybe they don't have the same problem as the OEM ones on the Genesis.

I don't plan on driving over 100 MPH, but I do plan on blasting through standing water on our streets when it rains hard. I consider the quintessential rain tire to be the Bridgestone RE750.

If the Hankooks are better rain tires, I'm staying with them.
