  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Using the accent lights on 2015 Sedan as DRL's

So what is the solution to changing the amber surround to a white surround? Ive been looking thru here for a while and may have missed it

Since you mentioned the amber surround, I assume you have the halogen headlights. Most of the discussion has been centered around using the white surround on the HID headlights as the DRL. Changing the amber surrounds to white would probably require a headlight change (which cost over $1,000). After changing the headlights, you'd be in the situation where the wiring harness and/or body control module aren't set up to light up the LEDs as DRLs (i.e. the DRL signal on US Geneses with the halogen headlights is sent to the high beam bulb instead of to the LED surround).

FWIW looking at both the 2015 and 2016 ETVMs for the DRLs I see no hardware or wiring differences. Also FYI the actual power to the DRLs appear to come directly from the IGPM and NOT THE BCM as shown in the below pic:

The only difference I can find is that it appears two pins on the BCM that go to ground are labeled DRL OPT with one being for Canada and one for NA (assume North America). I have no idea if the Canadian vehicles use one ground and the NA the other or ????.

However, I sort of question just how accurate some of these Schematic Diagrams that I got from the HMAService website with my 1 week subscription since it shows both the H/L and the DRLs as being LEDs and none show the double filament bulb that is used in the 2015s as the DRL/turn signal.

Any news on this? Really would love to have the LEDs as the DRL's... Like all of you would :)

I've been giving this some thought, and I think the best solution to this would be to create a harness that plugs in between the car's wiring and the headlight's socket. route everything straight through except the turn signal +, which would go to a logic box that separates constant +12V to the DRL pin on the headlamp and blinking +12V to the turn signal pin, much like what the led bulb black box from vleds.com does. hard part will be sourcing the harness connectors.

Still nothing in regards of this? I really want the 2016 headlight look with the LED's on as the DRL and not the blinker lights... =/

There was a post (that I now cannot find) where a guy got the accent/parking lights to burn bright white. I would very much like to find it again but a search on accent lights, parking lights, headlights has yielded nada.

There was a post on this forum (I got an email but now can not find it) by a guy who got the 2015 accent lights to burn as brightly as the 2016 - can anyone help me find it?!?!?!

That's the thread - my result using this is on page 4 or so. I had a guy do it, as i was not interested in removing the front fender. The pics on page 2 are correct and detail what is needed once the fender if off.

Thanks ksoze and Dthomas1 - How long (hours) to complete this ? 3-4?

I did it without removing the bumper but it's very difficult. Literally, a one handed job. Go the bumper removal route.

But this doesn't engage the LED's as DRL, correct? Seems you got the LEDs brighter but still operating in parking mode, not in auto mode.

Different wiring harness - the USA 2015's send the DRL signal down the turn signal wire and there is no wire in the DRL pin position in the connector.
Same wiring harness. Different headlights setup as shown in the owners manual. Version A or version B.

I would love to know what the genius who decided to have the US and Canadian spec cars be different was thinking.

Unless there is a law in the US that makes the 2015 US setup a legal requirement, this is breathtakingly stupid from a logistical perspective (now you have to manufacture several different wiring harnesses, stock two different wiring harnesses in North America, include different repair instructions for two North American markets, etc.) as well as from an aesthetic point of view.

I just checked a few European websites as well, and the Genesis uses the LED surrounds there as DLR as well. It looks like they may have changed that for the 2016 model, but why do this for the 2015's?
Same wiring. Two types of headlights as listed in your owners manual...as an option maybe

am i missing something? why don't you just leave your full time lights on if those last longer than the drl's? Else can you get a LED bulb that lasts much longer for the DRL amber light?

1156 white/amber switchback canbus bulbs are the solution. there are only two wires going in the socket instead of 3 like an 1157 bulb would require. originally there's an 1157 bulb in there, working only half. widen the bottom of the 1156 bulb with a soldering gun to touch the contact and shave a bit the notch on the side of the bulb to it'll fit in the socket it would not fall
