  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

V-6 vs V-8

Okay... just trying to understand why it is an apple or an orange.

It's really not that important.

Fair enough. To me it's apples and oranges because a muscle car, sports car, pony car (whatever you want to call it) is purchased first and foremost with accelerative performance in mind. That simply isn't the case with other classifications of cars, in my experience.

Please to be explaining...how did this get to a discussion about V8 powered performance coupes and mid/full size luxury sedans? I think we have strayed off course. Focus people...focus!

Just a tid-bit on this. In my area it seems that the lists for those waiting for the V-8 genesis is longer than those waiting for the V-6's, although at least they are arriving.

One other thing people may be thinking about is if your going to buy the ultimate Hyundai then why not do it all the way and get the loaded V-8.

As for gas prices, and this is off topic, it makes me sick to think we need to conserve conserve conserve!!! This country should have never become dependant on anyone else for oil! If nothing else it is a severe national security issue! God forbid, but if we are ever in another major war guess what, if our imported oil is cutoff we are in a world of hurt!
Last I knew our planes, ships, and tanks aren't hybrid's or plugin.

There is plenty of oil off our shores and in Alaska.
We might as well get at least all the off shore drilling we can get. For those worried about the envirement guess what? China is off our coasts drilling for oil for them. So if they are going to endanger the envirement anyway it just as well be us getting the oil.
Besides with the latest technology its not nearly as threatening to the envirement as it once was.

Think about it...........our population grows, we build more homes and buildings, buy more cars and guess what? There are those that don't want any new refineries, any new power plants, or any new oil wells.

Had we been growing our capacities all along to keep up with demand we wouldn't be in all this trouble now. Of course it is going to take years even if they ok more drilling to begin today. We made a huge mistake after not learning from the 1970's oil embargo!

How would young americans like it today if they had a small house and they had some kids and out grew their house. What if the government and envirementalists said oh gosh we don't want you taking down new tree's for a bigger house, we don't want you taking up anymore land, etc. Instead all american's need to cut down the size of their famalies!

Go ahead and laugh but we are all getting steered towards life that is geared to suit the envirementists and government not the american people and our way of life!

I'm sorry but gosh this whole thing torks me off!!!!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
WOW!!

That pretty much says it all.

Now if I can find a candidate that believes that.

Hey you wouldn't consider running would you?

Tsk-tsk. This isn't a political forum guys. :)

As far as waiting lists go, there were also waiting lists for the 300C/SRT-8, and many other cars when they first came out. Enthusiasts are more likely to go after the highest horsepower engine available. It's nothing new or unprecedented IMO.

Jwaters943,

Your right and I am sorry! Bad day at work and my V-8 Genesis is no where to be found!

You have offered alot of good information as have others. Thank-you!!!

The future of the v8 is not looking very good.. Most cars with an option for either a v6 or v8 sell with the six cylinder. I'm not quite sure it's a good idea for Hyundai to offer any amenities available ONLY with the purchase of a V8...

I heard that Hyundai's NA sales predictions were for V6 to be 75% of sales. The V8 is offered to add legitimacy so the car can go head to head with other competitors on performance. Maybe they will use the V8 in other frames as well. Higher fuel costs are changing the dynamic. I hate my stinking SUV at 13 mpg and will gladly take the performance of the V6 in the Genesis for the better MPG.

Perhaps Hyundai will enter NASCAR Racing circuit with the V8 Genesis? :p Like Toyota did with their Camry?. That will be funny, imports competing in the all American motor sport.

Well, to me, power isn't everything. As long as you can afford a car that you like at a price you can digest that let you go from point A to point B without breaking down or, forcing you to make un-necessary trip to the service to get the car fix, I can care less about the power. To me, as long as it's North American made(Yeah I know, this is a Hyundai site but), large, reasonably priced, and trouble-free, I am happy with it. I am not much into the V8 either since they tend to get gas guzzlers and more pricy for the car itself, part of the reason I got the base car rather than the GXP for my Grand Prix.

Well, that's what I think.

My next automobile purchase will be a V8. Whether or not it will be a Hyundai V8 remains to be seen. I like what I have read and seen, so far; but I will not make the final decision until I have driven the Hyundai.

Unlike many here, the fuel mileage is not a concern to me. I am retired and have no requirement to put a lot of miles on the car. My GTO is certainly no economy car; but a tank of fuel (16 gal) will normally last me more than a month. Actually, I probably use more gasoline for my lawn equipment and golf cart than I use in the GTO.

The base Genesis with the Tau V8 is probably the trim level that holds the most interest for me. I really cannot justify the price of the Tech Package for a string of accessories which I would, most likely, never use.

I noted, with interest, some of your comments concerning "fast" cars and "quick" cars. My definition of the two terms differs somewhat from some of you. I tend to use "fast" when discussing top speed and "quick" when discussing acceleration. In my mind a fast car is one that is capable of exceeding 150 mph; and a quick car is one that is capable of covering the 1/4 mile from a standing start in 13 seconds or less. Having a fast car is not important to me at all. OTOH, having a quick car is very important to me, since one of my hobbies is legally sanctioned, organized drag racing. Equally important is that a factory quick car must have the potential to be easily made quicker with aftermarket modifications.

Therein, lies the rub with the Genesis. Since the car itself and the Tau V8 are new, there isn't much information to go on concerning performance modifications. I've still got a lot of homework to do in this arena before moving out of the GTO. :)

I agree with gentau regarding his definitions of quick and fast. Based on his definitions I also want a quick car. I couldn't care less about fast. I really need to get from one stoplight to the next very quick!

Just FYI, the Tau V8 is also used in the new Kia Borrego SUV.

I didn't know that.. It's toned down quite a bit!

My thoughts on the v8 outselling the v6, at this point in time, is due to the fact that mostly enthusiasts know about and are interested in the Genesis.. As time goes on and people start seeing it on the road and in dealerships for the first time, v6 sales will take over...

Regarding "fast" and "quick" - there are so many different opinions! They all make sense in their own way. :)

In any event, if you're interested in political discussion, go here. It's a great site for debate!

Quick or Fast. When that out of control semi is bearing down on you, you'll want the V8. If you are in a V6 there won't be time to order the V8.

Yes, get the V8. It saves lives!!

You betcha!!

It also stops cancer, world hunger, loss of hair, poverty and will give you a great six pack.

Glad to see you're coming around, becoming more rational about the V8.;)

Well, that's what I think.

That would be great. I live across the street from the Lowes Motor Speedway. When Hyundai enters NASCAR I'll have a bar-b-q, y'all are invited. We'll have barbq pulled pork sandwiches with Carolina coleslaw and sweet sun tea. We can have a Pontiac area for you and the rest of the Pontiac fans, both of ya. (jk)

Maybe if the business grows, we can watch in a first turn condo. Wait, sounds like a 3 yr goal to me. Where's my journal...
