If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Congrats.

Great, now I will never be able to win a debate with you. (Like I could before) jk

I know a lot of you are waiting for the added performance of the V8.

With the price of gas I was in the market for a vehicle with better fuel efficiency. If the V6 delivered 24 MPG Hwy I don't think I would even have gone and looked at the car! It is not what I can afford it is just a perception of not being wasteful at the pump.

Once I got to look at the Genesis and test drove the car, I would probably have purchased either a V6 or V8 on the spot if they had a tech package in a color I liked in stock. The new Tau engine sounds like a dream. I am sure it will be used on multiple future platforms.

From what I am hearing there is far more interest in the V8 than the V6. The cost difference is small, negligible if you lease or have a loan. If your figures are correct $500 a year in gas is $42 a month. Most people spend that on pizza. If gas prices are hurting someone that much they would probably be looking at a Prius.

Well of course, if you really want to save money buy a used economy car. It will take many years before the added economy of a Prius matches the purchase cost of a used economy car. ( I'm not knocking the Prius. I think investment in highly efficient technology is great. But from a purely financial perspective, it is not the best way to save money. )

On price, consider $42 per month difference in gas plus maybe $35 per month difference in monthly payments (assuming a five year loan with a fairly low percentage rate) plus lower insurance costs plus potentially higher residual value when you resell the car if gas prices stay high or go up. Over the life of vehicle ownership, all that together might save you more than $100 per month and $5,000+ total.

Some people would consider the $5,000 money well spent. Others would rather keep it for other uses. Personally, I'm trying to find room in the household budget for a landscaping service. If the difference between a Genesis V6 and a V8 is not having to bother with my grass when I could be spending time with my wife and kids, I'll gladly kiss that gorgeous acceleration and beautiful V8 burble good-bye.

Even my mom in her 80s wants a V8. (Buick not Hyundai)
It's not really a fair comparison because I believe none of Buick's current V6s can break the 7.5 second range for 0-60 mph. The Genesis V6 is notably quicker.

I've driven 4 V6 Genesis's so far. I would never call them fast. There is a difference between the Azera but not much. Mostly from a standing start. I think it is the RWD. Once they both hit 20 my guess is it would be dead even.

I sure don't call my Azera fast. It will keep up with almost everything I've tried. Including BMWs, Mercedes, Audi, Monte Carlos, Impala SSs, Mitisubishi Eclipses and CTS Cadilliacs. It gets stomped by Mustang 5.0, 4.6, Roush Mustangs and Corvettes. These are what I would call fast. I mean it is embarrassing how much faster they are.

Car and Driver tested the Impala SS at 0.8 seconds faster to 60 mph than the Azera and 1 second faster in the quarter mile than the Azera. It has an old fashioned but generally well designed 5.3 liter V8 under the hood.

Have you seriously track-raced an Impala SS?

One more good point about the v8 is it'll be a little bit smoother than the v6 - especially at high rpm...

Well from a purely financial perspective the Genesis probably doesn't work. The 09 V6 Genesis nicely equipped is 36K. The 09 Azera loaded with everything Hyundai has to offer (Limited ultimate Navigation package) street price is 28K. A diff of 8K or 28% less than the Genesis.

If you want the Genesis, you have to be looking at something other than financial reasons. The Genesis is only slightly larger than the Azera. The only difference I see is slightly more legroom in the Genesis.

The prius option was more effective when the V6 vs V8 of an additional 2 mpg was used. If fuel economy is important on the Genesis then going to a prius would allow you to save more fuel than the 2 mpg savings over the V8.

With the Azera better gas mileage $0 per month in gas. Remove the $42 per month gas difference. $156 per month payment savings over the Genesis with the Azera. $9,400 savings total over the Genesis.

PRICELESS!

Mom retired from professional drag racing last year. Still street races though. Must be why she wants a V8 :D (jk)

No just a friend's Impala SS. But I love to spank him every opportunity I get!!

He won't race me any more unless I spot him a car. Puts us about dead even at 100 mph, sometimes he's a little ahead. He did drag race for about 3 years so he always gets the jump on me.

RichieRichLancair,

I was only comparing the Genesis V6 to the Genesis V8. I understand that the Azera is a much better buy unless you want the top luxury features in the Genesis or are a very sporty driving enthusiast.

Although I would select the Kia Amanti over the Azera. Hyundai and Kia are, as you probably know, the same company. The Amanti was redesigned for 2007 or 2006 to use the same underlying vehicle platform as the Azera, but the Amanti scores better in the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety side crash test. On the other hand, the Amanti doesn't offer navigation (???) or rear seat DVD entertainment, and those are both getting to be pretty common in the large class. (I don't care about navigation, but since I'm thinking family car, being able to conveniently show movies to the kids is very nice.)

I'm astonished you can outrun your friend's Impala SS. You have an extra gear in the transmission, but he has gobs more torque and horsepower and about the same weight. I thought for sure he would be much quicker.
