If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Video in Motion

Yea the PRICE is now $299.00.

I have a 2012 Genny Sedan, prem/tech pkg. SO you are saying this is an 'easy install' ...I'd like to do it myself and save whatever it is they charge at the local car audio shop, but I don't want to get into a lot of screws and plastic laying about.

The tech there at the NAV-TV says that there is very little room to install the device. Also, it appears to have a USB port for 'updates' , so I would also like to hang a USB pigtail out of it to access after I get it installed. Also, since heat seems to be an issue in the dash, would installing this restrict air flow in any way?

I just want to be sure I can still access NAV, SETTINGS, RADIO, XM screens after installation....my wife wants to watch DVD on long trips, and I don't want to lose ability to see NAV and other displays.

Hey Warp08,

I purchased the mod from NavTV serveral months ago for my 4.6 tech package. It was sent directly to a stereo shop here in Atlanta. It had to be sent back twice because NavTv had only done one Genesis at that time, and they said the tech forgot or couldn't remember exactly how he constructed the modual. The first time that they sent it, it did not have Voice Command. But when they sent it back, it worked fine. I have full voice command/bluetooth with VIM. Hey check this out, it is a plug and play, and they send the instalation instructions with it. Had I saw the instructions first, I could have installed it. You pop the face plate off using a piece of hard plastic, remove two philips head screws, and two 10mm bolts. Then dis-connect the factory harness, connect NavTV's harness. The stereo shop charged me $75.00 bucks to install it. Works great. You need to let them know that the Voice Command doesn't work.

Thanks

I've been posing questions to the NAV-TV person; read from the bottom message first then up...

Lenny (NAV-TV): Works the same way it does now - the product does not change features....so if you can access it now you will be able to access it with our piece -

Me: Yea I kind of figured that...If you are using DVD and then bring up XM radio, then DVD playback stops and you then can control the XM radio, etc... right?

Lenny (NAV-TV): The Genesis VIM will unlock the factory DVD - as the DVD is playing you will still be able to access the NAV screen.

From what the engineer said, your navigation should still track since we do not interrupt the GPS navigation antenna.

Just to let you know you will not be able to say use the XM/radio and watch a DVD Player at the same time - it is just not possible

Me: OK, once you get DVD video to play, then I can still access the NAV screen and RADIO and XM, etc.....

Lenny Gomez <lgomez@navtv.com> wrote: The device is Small - the room is limited- it requires the removal of the DVD Player -

Here is the Manual Landing Page -

http://navtv.com/userfiles/editor/file/manuals/GENESISVIM-USB/Hyundai_GenesisVIM.pdf

It shows you the instructions and how to remove the DVD Player -

Me: "What does that mean? "Being able to get everything to fit"...how big is your device and how much room IS there....does it require REMOVAL of the head unit from the dash to install......??

Lenny (NAV-TV): .."Getting the Radio out is Easy - Being able to make everything fit behind is the problem - At the moment we have no option to output to the rear - Our module allows you to only Unlock the Factory DVD .."

Me: "How difficult is this unit to install. Also, I understand that this head unit also has an output for a cable for a rear passenger video unit.... can you tell me more about that?"

I would give my wife a beating if she even suggested risking our lives watching video in the front seat of the moving car. That's what drive-in movies are for.

Oh, should I expect the car to detonate if 'Play' is selected while in motion?

Only a FOOL would watch a movie while driving. There is absolutely no reason to do so.

Re: watching dvd while car in motion

It is amazing how many fools there are out there.

I've been watching movies in a car since I was 3 years old.
I'm still alive and kicking!

You are certainly exceptional, DRIVING since you were three WOW I'm impressed.
I stand by my comment about only fools drive while watching a video. Why don't you idiots just put your laptop on your dash????

Hey thanks for asking,
Yes I do like the beach and playing in the sand on Wednesday's.
I also like chilling by a fire on a cool night.

Good luck with your dog!;)

Nobody really cares about your comment because it has NOTHING to with the discussion. If somebody asked a question about REMOVING their cat converters would you jump in and tell them how stupid and environmentally insensitive they are? So now you called us "idiots" and "fools". Just go away, OK? If you do not wish to enable video-in-motion, then just refrain from name-calling and let US discuss it without your harassment.

Yea my wife likes the idea and we're pretty close to ordering one....

Ah, Mikey, just like the other thread. I'll repeat that nobody cares about your "opinon" here because it has nothing to do with the discussion. GO harass those folks who want to replace the OEM tires with higher rolling resistance tires...berate them on how they'll waste fuel....or maybe you can harass somebody who wants to replace the regular high beam bulbs with HIDs (they'll BURN out the retinas of oncoming drivers) or some such nonsense. STOP the name-calling because YOU do not like the subject of discussion. Geeezsh.

Unless you operate in a bubble and not put the rest of the motoring public at any more risk than they already are, he has a valid point. We already have to dodge the nitwits that are texting, applying makeup, reading newspapers and novels and juggling their cellphones while steering with their knee without adding another boneheaded activity, watching videos. There is a reason that it is illegal to have a TV or movie screen active within eyeshot of the driver in all 50 states. Now I can tell from your comments that you would never watch it while driving or it is only for the kids in the back seat so no one here would ever accuse you of putting the rest of us at risk.

Re: watching dvd while car in motion

Whether or not there is a 'valid' point is not RELATIVE to the discussion. Period. People come into these forums for information. Now if the moderator wishes to STRIKE a thread due to is legality or "illegality" that's one thing. To simple ask a question about a subject..such as this thread, and then to get a LECTURE or worse, get called a 'fool' or IDIOT, is simply unwarranted. I believe that we are adults here and we KNOW the ins and outs of what we wish to do. This is not the place for berating those of us who wish to enable this feature. Whatever and whoever YOU are out there 'dodging' has nothing do with ME or my desire to enable a function on my car for my wife's benefit. A person who 'drives distracted' will do so, no matter WHAT. A person who does not get distracted has no issues with it. Simply LISTENING to the radio or XM or CD could be distracted driving to some people. Talking aloud to a passenger could be distracting to another driver, and that pretty blond in the red convertible in the next lane is a distraction to yet another. So save the "LECTURE" for a SAFETY forum (there you can call us all nutjobs, idiots, fools, morons or whatever)...and just KEEP ON THE SUBJECT. Geeezsh...

Re: watching dvd while car in motion

Any added rear headrest monitors to their system?
Since I purchased my 09, I have been monitoring this in the Forum.
I have seen some pictures of a Gene from Korea but nothing here.

Anyone.

Not yet. We don't have a lot of rear seat passengers at this point, but might add at least one at some time...

Re: watching dvd while car in motion

Well said. When someone starts paying my car payment they can have input on how I mod my car, until then they can stfu.

Very good response, and to think they let these people handle sharp objects. Simply amazing.

Re: watching dvd while car in motion

FWIW - using the ever so popular exhaust cut outs are illegal as well. I dont see many, if any at all, speaking negatively about the legality of those.
