In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi all, I'm new here and am looking at buying a new car in the next few months/year or so. The Genesis is high up on my list but I wanted to get some feedback from owners, not just web review sites and dealers.

So, what do you think of your Genesis coupe? Is it worth the purchase price? I'm considering either the t4 or 6, not sure which, depends on what I find my budget to be when I actually go in to purchase.

Any issues I should be prepared for before I buy?

Thanks in advance!

I have the 2.0T premium and I love it. It is a RWD car so take that into consideration.

RWD is one of the biggest reasons I want it. I'm tired of my FWD Neon, haha.

I've owned mine only for a few days but I'll share my opinions. BTW I have also owned a G37 auto for a couple of years.

Interior: Nice interior with a few minor gripes. I do wish they would have chosen a darker color instead of the bright silver for the steering wheel and radio bezel. I'm sure there will be aftermarket replacements. Seats are nice and comforable with the lumbar support option. Leather seems to be a nice quality and is fairly soft. Hope they will hold up over the years. Radio/thermostat display is fairly cheap looking during the daytime, wish they would have gone with a color display here. Also, I already know what car I am driving, why do they have to display the words "Genesis Coupe" when the radio is off? Would rather see a genesis symbol here or be user modifiable.

Transmission: I have the 6 speed manual and love the short throw gearing. The clutch however has a very heavy truck like feeling and I find it hard to start off quickly in first. First to second is a bit jerky as well for me. I suspect that I'll get more used to it over time, but I have been drving sticks for many years and this is the first one that I have struggled so much with.

Engine: The 3.8 engine is really nice and I am glad I spent the extra money for it. It feels every bit as strong as my G37 and is not buzzy or noisy when pushed. I would have liked a little more growl from the exhaust though.

Overall I am very happy with this car. The Genesis has the right comfort level with enough power to keep me satisfied for a long time.

I have the 3.8 Track auto. Wanted the manual, but there were only 3 in the country in white. So, the dealer, and my wife, convinced me to get the auto. After driving it, I'm actually glad I did. I travel 100 miles a day to and from work and when I'm on the highway, I flip it over and use the paddle shifters and when I'm in traffic, I can flop it over to auto and forget about it.

I am also disappointed with the display. I wish they would have come out with the NAV prior to release, but what are going to do.

Other than this, the track model is so awesome to drive. It handles unbelievably. When the car hits 80/90, its like your driving 55. I’m left wondering why everyone is driving so slow.

Just waiting for someone to release a super charger for this thing.

Love my 2.0T base. I use it to commute everyday and I couldn't be happier. People complain about heavy clutch but I never like soft clutches anyway. I think the clutch feels great, as well as the short throw gearbox. I've already put 1500 miles on my car and have nothing to complain about. I never second guessed my deciesion to buy this car.

First of all I like my coupe. It is a 3.8 automatic Touring variety and I would buy it again.

I don't have many things that I dislike about the car but here are a few to consider.

1. Hard to reach the seat belt.

2. Be careful of curbs. Very easy to hit the curbs with the bumper as it is very low to the ground. Also with the high performance tires, bumping/rubbing the curb will also rub and scratch the rims. I wasn't aware of this and did both the very first day I had the car. :(

3. The shifter paddles are a little ackward to use but you will eventually get use to it. I now use them all the time when I am in traffic. It keeps it interesting.

4. Back seat can only be used by shorter people. If over 5' 8", forget about sitting in the back.

I just got the 2010 3.8 Track with the V6. So far I love the car (although my wife has been driving it lately). I traded a G35 sedan for it. I must say that the transmission shifting is a lot smoother than the G35. The G35 can give you a whiplash when gunned. I like the Bluetooth better in the Genesis. I do not like the fact that the 3.8 Track only comes with black leather. I liked the chocolate leather but had to downgrade to a GT to get it. I wasn't going to give the Brembo brakes to get the leather. Perhaps in future models Hyundai can offer some wood trim in the interior (my g35 had wood and it looked great). One thing I am not sure yet is the 87 Octane recommendation. Do you you get the full 306HP with 87 Octane? My G35 drank Premium fuel. I hope so as I think that gas prices will continue to rise.

I have the 3.8 Manual Transmission. Had just what I wanted in a car and no extras (call me silly but I didn't want the sunroof, for example).

Overall I love the car and have only 1 complaint, however, it is significant. It is the gear shifter going from 1st to 2nd. VERY tight. Sometimes, mostly when cold, cannot get it to go into second AT ALL-even after releasing the clutch and retrying. Not too happy about that and am actually wondering if there is a problem there. Have only had it a week, but drove it on a 16 hour round-trip (highway) road trip and that was great! The other gears seem to work and feel fine.

I'm going to give it another week and then decide if I want to take it in for a look. (I have driven stickshifts for 35 years now so I don't think its from abuse and I also don't drive it particularly hard).

it's a fun car to drive. i'm glad i got the 3.8 track manual, even though i'm still learning to shift gears more smoothly. when i feel that i'm one with the car, then i want to go to a track and see what she will really do.

I love my car.
I have driven everything from accord coupes to minivans (kids)
traded in the minivan for the Genesis coupe because the kids are older now.

My 2.0T Genesis coupe is fun to drive and gets a lot of looks and questions from people who see it.

if you like power with out modding an engine.....go with the V6 Genesis.
If you like to mod cars the 2.0t has a lot of available bolt-ons for it and can produce some nice WHP and torque with just a few bolt-ons.

so yes....the genesis coupe was a great purchase for me and I am very satisfied with my reward for dollar spent.

honestly, i loved it and now i hate it .every goddam bump i hit i feel i need a chiropractor. i live in staten island new york... home of the pothole. some residents of new jersey can concur. the truth of the matter is, its a decent car, but the vehicle itself is far from owning a decent suspension, and i mean that! i have driven both 2.0T and 3.8, and i own the 2.0T. i have also driven the 2009 nissan z more than a dozen times and a porsche boxster equivalent amount of times. i know it sounds like i bashing the hell out of the genny coupe, but im only giving a truthful, honest, down to earth review of the cars suspension along with 3 others i have driven over a dozen times each. like i said i driven the 2.oT a 3.8, a boxster and a nissan z. many are rwd cars, close in class. all blow the 2.0T away with suspension. ALL im saying is,i have honestly come into some serious back and neck pain from this vehicle. i own it for another 2.6 years... unfortunatly, ill be sure to lease another vehicle after its up! PS my parents own a S600 and my brother has a E550, my sister has the VW GLI andmy othe sis has the Pontiac G6 coupe,,,,,, alll have remarkable suspension compared to the same area of road conditions to the 2.0T. like i said, i currently an in a lease with the 2010 2.0T and have it for another 2.6 years. i hate it due to the suspension.

Best purchase I have made in years. Look forward to mods. The car gets compliments and looks. I was in Vegas twice since I purchased it a month ago, and all the valets compliment the car. Vegas valets have seen every type of exotic car.

Overall I still feel this was a better choice than the GTI I was eying. I traded in a 2005 GTI for the Genesis.

Life is full Circle. My 1st new car was a 1987 Hyundai Excel base model. My current base model Hyundai is a "little" better car

I have a Grand Touring. Love it! It looks great. Interior layout and controls are user-friendly. Car is loaded with every option I could imagine. Engine is strong and getting stronger as it breaks in.

If I have any concerns, they would be: (a) Fuel economy isn't great, though thankfully, it doesn't require premium, and (b) ride is a bit rough sometimes...not enough to bother me, but the ride-handling tradeoff could be better. The BMW 3 coupe I came from road a bit easier AND handled a bit better. GC handling is good, but it really shouldn't need to be as hard as it is to achieve that handling. BMW is the master in that area.

Other than that, I prefer the GC to my 3. And when it comes to value for the dollar, the GC is WAY ahead.

ive had mine for 6 months, i have the 3.8 and i love it. i have it in red with the art of speed package, which makes it look completely different then any other genesis coupe. you do feel every bump but it IS a sports car what can you do.

I bought mine 2 days ago, trading in my 06 Subaru Impreza WRX that started having serious problems with only 100k miles.

First, the design is perfect. It's lines and stance make it one of the best looking cars you can buy, let alone for so inexpensive.

I test drove the 3.8 and liked the power, but I ended up buying a white 2.0T RSpec, mainly for the Brembos and 19" wheels. The car doesn't have as much power as my WRX. And, the coupe is heavier so it feels slower. But power isn't everything. I love RWD and the balance between the 200hp, suspension and brakes.

Bought a 3.8 Track and love it despite no remote start capability and option for back up camera/sensors. I'm getting used to the high back end when backing up compared to the Jeep Liberty I had. Remote start would be nice for winter days and hot summers, loved it on my Jeep...getting in a pre-warmed vehicle or when the A/C cooled the car on hot days -especially with black interior. Apparently no one near me says its possible although i read about the EVO-ALL which allows remote start capability.

I considered an Infiniti but I didn't want to pay for the name yet still got my bluetooth, Infinty sound system, brembo brakes and HP.

Wait, am i reading that right? There's no way at all to add an aftermarket remote start system, or it's just not available from the factory?

Had my 3.8 Track A/T 2 days now....

The car rides a little stiffer than I expected, but it isn't anything I can't live with.

The power is there as I hoped.

The power steering is harder to turn than I am used to on my Ford. Again not a real problem.

Brakes are great.

The bluetooth is a little harder to learn than I thought since I don't have the navigation screen to read.

The seat is very comfortable for me at 6ft 235lbs and has plenty of leg room

Now I just have to finish figuring out all the whistles and bells.

TheRandom1,
I'm told Hyundai doesn't offer an auto start yet and I tried to get Viper installed but was told it couldn't be done. Supposedly the technology of Smart Start push buttons have caused problems with auto starts and no compatible systems are available, but...I saw on youtube that someon installed auto start but no info was given. I also read on other forums that the Fortin Evo-All is compatible and works on the coupe. Now, to find someone who can actually install the devices. If anyone knows of any tech who can do this in Las Cruces, NM or El Paso, TX, I'd like to know, they're the closest big cities to me.
