If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What have you Raced?

Early 90s M3 and a C32 amg. Two young guys driving them. They both got quite a surprise when they pulled on either side of me on the highway. They both gave me "the look" so we had a pull from about 70kph. Wasn't even a race. Pulled into a parking lot a short distance up the road and proceeded to get the 20 questions about the Genni. Turns out they work at a local tuning shop. They invited me to their next meet.

I get "that look" all the time :D

I get "THAT" look from my wife all the time but in my case "THAT" look means "What the hell are you waiting for! Go get him! Before I kick you outta the drivers seat and Ill go get him!" One time we were near a shopping center and she said drop us (her/kids) off and go get him! I declined but it was fun entertaining the thought. That's why I love my wife soo much. LOL!

Another memorable moment to add to the scrap book…

Here I was minding my own business on a single lane sticking to the speed limit in an attempt to deny those Ka/Laser shooters the ability to balance their end of the month budgets, when I saw nice white Panamera coming down fast behind me and sticking up my posterior to the point I could no longer see those pretty LED headlamps!. Not fazed by this aggressive move, I continued at the posted speed limit until we came to a two lane stoplight leading down to a highway ramp.

He rev’ed his engine, when I looked to my left he shot me a look of utter contempt, glancing at his wheels, ride height and the absence of certain trimmings assured me of the absence of any boost that a turbo/GTS may provide! So I thought what the hell!? Momentarily flicked the gear stick to manual, down and back to auto…

Green! we both floored it, half way through ramp I am leading about a car length, triple digits by the end of the long ramp with the gab widening to two cars lengths, few thousand feet the gap widened to three cars, two high beam signals from those bright LEDs indicated we are all done, let my foot off the gas until engaging the cruise control at the appropriate speed all the while he maintained the three car lengths, at which point he indicated and got right beside me, with a look of surprise, no it was more like ‘flabbergasted!" which was quickly replaced by a wide smile accompanied by the customary thumps up! Speeding up shortly after with the Panamera S insignia shimmering in the sunset…

I thought to myself what a wonderful end to a long day…After all picking a worthy opponent makes that victory so much sweeter… :)

Good kill! Pretty much matched specs and performance without the 94,000 price tag. I went right to the dealer to see if he could afford the Turbo S...LLS

Dodge challengers are pretty crappy cars. Hope he headed to the nearest Hyundai dealer lol

Dodge challengers & Ford Mustangs - generally speaking- are "wannabes".

They have a bit of power and a lot of noise to go with it.

Basically cars for kids & not too pricy.

Ok... Took on M4 BMW Coupe. He started it... :) anyway, we were rolling down the rural 4 lane after a turn from another street. Since it was nice I had the roof open and partial back windows. So when he lit up, it sounded like a loud 1960s UPS truck without mufflers.. The worst sounding straight 6 I have ever heard. Turbos or not, I took him and he never caught up. All I heard was the fading truck engine, and not a peep out of the super quiet under max acceleration 2012 5.0. Just a constant growing rush of classy quiet refined V8 speed. Up the road at another light, he made sure he was behind me, and turned off as soon as he could.

That's a pretty amazing feat considering Car and Driver did 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 12.4 at 117 miles per hour with the BMW M4. I think your Genesis must be a factory freak. But, it happens. Good for you. And congratulations on letting the top tier high performance German car owners know that Hyundai's can pretty much beat just about anything on the road...

I bet he would have gotten almost a second off the line to say 60 then my 2012, stock except for flapper mod in air box, could. So, makes sense to the 60 mark. He has huge gumshoe tires, all the double clutch whatever tranny, and likely better torque down below. I think he got caught in the "Genny zone", like we saw in the video posted in this forum of the Escalade following SRT 8 getting beat by Genny from a mid speed start.. Right gearing, he had just been sitting soaking up inter cooler with heat at the turn signal long light... Maybe he thought like others, he could run regular in his car..l who knows.., whatever it was, he lost, and lost by many car lengths. But then at "highway speeds" many car lengths is not much trap time difference. My 2015 would not have faired as well. Much less pull at uber high speeds, measured by seat of pants. Weight and flat front end I bet makes the difference.

Taking out the off the line nanny and intake issues, the first beats 12.7 at say 117 or so. Except off the line, my first gen pulls harder over the stretch than my stock auto (power everything, air) SD-455. And, IF I bothered to figure out the off the line issues, the 2012 would beat the 12.7 at 115 quarter mile times on standard street 15" tires the SD has run.. They are both in the same weight range. Getting the Genny off the line, stock, is a challenge with all the restrictions. Once rolling, look out. Not the fastest, but sure fast enough.

I think you hit the nail on the head with "Genny Zone".

Edited my post... Yea, that 8 speed, rear gearing, seem to be about perfect ratios once rolling. Always a great power band range to get a jump, and keep/pull a bigger, lead over some impressive cars... That is likely the reason why so many in here dispatch Mustang 5.0.. When they are running automatics and their economy gears, where the tranny ratios are uneven, rear end is geared too economy, and only six mismatched speeds, makes sense why they get beat so often. Even with a manual, someone has to be real good with that manual. And the manual fewer gears are also whacked out where the spacing of ratios is not good for the power band. And the upper gears too much economy gearing when matched to the rear end gearing of the Mustangs.

The V8 Genesis is definitely a ballsy car "in the zone". That's for sure...

Oh, and I am not joking about the sound of the M4. It was horrible. Never thought I would hear a straight 6 from Germany sound so bad. The old Mercedes straight 6, and mildly tuned 335s I have heard have sound non truck like or non Buick offset balancing crank V6 bad muffler sound. This M4 made a Buick GNX with straight pipes sound better in comparison. The M4 sounded like a stock V6 Sprinter van running nitrous and open pipes. Compared to the M3 V8, an embarrassment. 4 or 6 pot fans would have been ashamed. And this is my side point. The M4 is what it is to be "eco friendly" talking points with all the rage of high strung 4 or 6 pot engines ready to go fast and save the planet from the red blooded American male and his V8.

I was reading a collector watch forum I subscribe to. In it, Europeans were reluctantly saying how they now like all the V8 Classic muscle American iron. They had photos of punched out hemis, other Mopar, GM and Ford cars they have taken from our shores. Others who did not have any were reflecting back on the ending of our American era of cheap to self repair, reliable, great sounding and fast cars. They "admitted" "loud" 4 and 6 pots were just not the same. And how their companies now owned by ChiComs, India, and the Eco-nut Germans were making their V8 extinct. That their collections were investments for them as rich guys. I had to snicker. And yet, passed off that these Jonny come lately, who supported and fostered the attempted elimination of affordable masculine V8s, get to play their elite game paying huge sums to import our best American iron. Which includes this last generation of V8s currently being made.

Like V8s or not, this is a "war". The old saying in prewar Germany.. "First they came for the Jews, then the gypsies, Catholics, Christians, who was left?" You folks ennamoured with your 4 and 6 pot motors... Soon, they will have you driving 3 pot, then no pots at all, by force. They will come for you easier guys once the V8 crowd cowers.. War strategy for the ages says go after the biggest threat to the agenda first.. That is us V8 fans. :)

Enough complaining from me for the day while we all are picking cotton in the fields. Back to the car themes. :) take what I say serious or a joke. Does not matter.. In the decades forward, you will be forced to understand what I post about these topics.

Picking up a Q50 for the wife on Tuesday. She's already talking smack :D

Funny. You will still win with the Genny... :) and she is welcome to take on a few of us with you at the same time, to see if she can outlast anyone... Or end up in last place.. 😎

So, I have this friend who has put all sorts of money and time into his 2013 Challenger RT with a 5.7L Hemi (Plum Crazy Purple of course), exhaust, tune, intake, etc.

He was driving next to me on the highway in his Dodge Ram (again with a Hemi) and made a finger pointing motion ahead of us as to gesture that he wanted to see what his truck could do. Without realizing it was him, I floored it and left him in my dust. Not really a big win but it was enough for him to later say, "Holy crap, that thing picked up and was gone".

Anyways, this guy has been wanting to run his car against mine to compare his upgrades with mine. Last week, I had the chance to give him a "ride". We were on a particular stretch of back streets with no houses, businesses, side streets, or intersections. The road was about a mile long with 6 90 degree turns with no stop signs and no traffic.

I got him in the car and immediately told him to hold on to his lunch. I hit the first stretch, revving the motor up in manual shifting mode to about 80MPH. I went hard on the brakes and clicked one downshift moments before the turn to keep my RPMs up. I hit the turn at about 40-45MPH with half throttle at the apex. Once I was past that point the turn, I punched it and revved it up again to just shy of 80MPH before heavy on the brakes again. 5 more times I repeated this process before the end of my run. I absolutely nailed the turns and had the car doing everything that was possible for it to do.

Once I was out of the sharp turns, I opened it up fully and gave him a preview of what he was in for if we "dragged".

When we got to our destination, he wound up buying me dinner and bragging to his wife on how fast my car was. No more talk about wanting to challenge my car. But if he does, I will post the results.

I've got a '90 Jeep wrangler with a 4.6 in-line six stroker motor, with a free-flow cat-back, and it sounds pretty sweet. Definitely not a slug, either. But not a road-race car with the 32 inch tires and the 3 inch lift kit on it either. But if you want to race across an open field... ;-)

At best the 5.7 challenger with full boltons - intake/exhaust/tune will run mid to low 13's. That's considering good air at a low altitude track. He's giving up 50 HP stock, and weighs approximately the same as the R-spec.

I explained all of this to him. He still wants to see what his car has.

I believe my mods are enough to match his mods and keep me in the +50HP range over his car. We will see once he gets brave again :)
