What things don't you like in the G70?

Hi, New owner of Brand new 2019 G70 Sport 2.0t awd . Adriatic Blue 5/21/20 Love the car ! I’m coming from 2013 Kia Optima SX 2.0 turbo.
dislikes trunk size and gas tank size . Miss my cargo net used in Optima for
grocery bags and 18.5 gallon gas tank. Gas tank size not much of factor for
daily driving but will affect road trips . Miss Jesus handle above Driver side
window . Center console storage is awkward to use while driving . Rear tail
lights look too Generic ! What’s the deal with no front mud flaps available wanted a Kia Stinger but lack of features available with 2.0 turbo was deal breaker. I have the black Nappa with red stitching interior absolutely beautiful!

Yeah my G70 came with cargo net also. The Optima net was different you put your bags inside the net which i liked better. Ditto on everything else was
just commenting on differences. Same for rear seat room same as Optima. Wife has 2020 Chevrolet Silverdo Crew cab so no worries lol

I wish the trunk was a bit bigger but its not that it's small I just had a suv before.
Also I disliked the shifter the first day I had it then loved it after I realized how much easier/quicker it is to go from drive to reverse when parking

It's just way too damn small! I know it's a compact car, but interior and truck space is really small even for a compact car. Also, despite the price being fairly similar to a G80 sport, the interior quality just doesn't feel as good. I dont know what it is, because it seems to be using similar materials, and it's design is more updated as well, but it just didn't feel as nice as the G80.

I’ve had my G70 2.0 Sport/MT as my daily driver now for nearly a year. I was as patient and deliberate as I could be in settling on things I don’t like. Here they are, with biggest complaints first:

• Throttle mapping/clutch engagement power dip
• Flat bottomed seats — too flat and too wide
• Lack of available features (specifically, rain sensing wipers, heated steering wheel, and adaptive cruise (Honda and VW have this on their MT cars — it can be done))
• Turbo lag
  

Deal killers? Dunno. Disappointing? Definitely.

I feel your pain, so to speak, on the seats.
From everything I read in these threads, it does sound as though the 2.0 has an issue with the drive by wire throttle response and/or turbo lag that the 3.3T doesn't have (at least not mine). It's too bad.

Today I was driving using paddle shifters but not in a sporty manner. Using below 3500 rpm. And, my car did not shift up to 7th when the rpm was 2500. I tapped my paddle shifter multiple times and did not work. I pressed and held + for few seconds for automatic mode and finally it shifted up to 7th. Never had the issue with my previous car Kia Stinger.

Seat extension for easier access does not work too. I put it extended but never worked. I'm only 5'10. The function worked in my Stinger though with the same seat position.

we talked about that- the seat does not go back if already pretty far back so it doesn't crush the knees of a rear seat passenger

After washing, water leaks out of the rear view mirrors for a long time and leaves streaks. See nothing to dry further on the underside- must be coming from inside the mirror housing

Yep, same issue. There must be a low area in the mirror housing that needs a small drain hole to let water out. I’m used to needing to do a spritz of detail spray on the doors after driving to remove water spots.

^ yup, the power dip is irritating, although much less noticeable in sport mode. also, the ecu TSB helped out somewhat. while i have no issued with the seats - i actually really like them - i have heard others gripe as well. seats are a very personal aspect, people come in many shapes and sizes, so what is great for one person is unacceptable to someone else.

once again it is a shame how the US spec was configured for the 6MT trim. the only thing they got right was the vented seats. but they missed the mark with so many features. the CAD spec has everything on your list except adaptive cruise - rain wiper/heated wheel - as well as the full Sport package treatment (identical to 3.3T Sport), moonroof, full x-stiched nappa, etc. luckily both our markets got all the important mechanical performance bits.

question - did the US spec 6MT get a spare tire kit? or just the mobility kit? CAD got the mobility kit and i've been trying to source a spare for a while. i have a road trip coming up and i'd really prefer an actual spare. i'll happily accept the +50lbs extra weight. the G70 isn't exactly a featherweight anyways...

No spare in the US spec 6MT -- just the mobility kit. Although I can sleep at night with just the mobility kit, I would have preferred the space saver spare. Ironically, the trunk floor is just as high regardless of how the car is optioned. Mobility kit is kind of the worst of both worlds. Small trunk and no spare.

Truthfully, when purchasing my G70, I rationalized the lack of creature comforts in the US spec of the 6MT. I figured, "hey, fewer things to go wrong." While that may be true, I didn't realize how much I'd miss some of these options, especially since I was spoiled by them in my previous vehicle. Without their availability on my trim level, the G70 is dangerously close to a Hyundai or, at least, a less-than-luxury vehicle.

I'm convinced that, at least for the US market, Genesis was looking for any possible way to keep the MSRP of the 6MT under $40,000 USD. Price wasn't a big factor for me; it was simply a bonus that the price was as low as it was. In hindsight, the difference between a $38,000 car and a $60,000 is clearer than ever.

^ ha. well said. the trunk is very small - particularly shallow. woulda been nice to get a bit more depth when they ditched the spare.

in Korea the G70 can be optioned up with a la carte features - such as vented seats. i told my GXM that i'd have happily paid extra for the vented seats. no dice obviously. i did investigate having an upholstery shop add it, but the headache and risk of things going wrong led me to back out.

i agree that they wanted a <$40k configuration for the US. i believe it is $38,900. i have to think if they tacked on another $1000 to make it $39,900 they could have added back some much-needed content and features to bring it closer to the CAD spec while staying under $40k. not that sales would have grown exponentially, but i bet they'd have sold more 6MT units.

I dont feel like youre missing much. There are times that I cant tell mine are on even though I only use the highest setting (and of course running the AC as well)

I have a new spare from my G37S that when the car got totaled I pulled it before insurance picked up the vehicle. Not sure if Infiniti and Genesis use the same bolt hole pattern or not? Visual wise my Infiniti spare and Genesis spare look similar. If interested PM me and I’ll see if it will bolt up to my sport model or not?

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but I absolutely hate the humidifier system. It kicks on intermittently, essentially running the air conditioner when I don't want it on. Furthermore, it leaves moisture on the inside of the rear window, which dries to spots and that window is incredibly hard to clean thoroughly.
