If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What would it take to get you to buy a 2014 Genesis?

Coming from a 2012 V6 tech premium here is my shopping list:

1. Better front seats (the thigh support really is crap)
2. Drivers foot rest (2013 Sonata was more comfy to me as my foot actually fit)
3. Engine/Tranny upgrade (I loved the torque in 2013 Sonata 2.0T - no hesitation when pedal is mashed
4. Yes, cooled and up/down seat for passenger shouldn't even be a thought, should just be there
5. DIS is painfully slow when moving GPS between points, what's up with that?
6. The trunk...it leaks inside when raised, wtf
7. City mileage sux
8. HUD (I had it on my 1993 Bonneville and loved it)
9. Bigger tires out back, seriously (at least 275's)
10.The wing emblems should come stock
11.Cruise control should be able to stop the car and go in heavy traffic
12.There's no reason why they can't display the PSI in the tires individually like my RL used to do

get me all that with a turbo engine and I'll get rid of my 2012 in a heartbeat.

Take a look at my new left foot rest/dead pedal in this thread. It's soopah!

Acknowledgment by Hyundai of problem and voluntary TSB/recall on 2009-2013 for the following safety items that have affected many owners of current generation:
  1. Failure of throttle actuator which can leave one stranded.
  2. Failure of ABS system which causes brakes to fail.
Unless Hyundai steps up to the plate on the above items, I no longer trust them.

Nice to have features:
  • Better interior with real wood trim. Or at least get rid of shinny plastic, and no black-out plastic unless it is for R-Spec.
  • Better suspension.

Other concerns:
  • Lexicon (or other) audio system should be debugged and trouble-free.
  • Amber turn signals on rear (looks like next-gen may have red turn signals on rear)
  • GDI engine reliability is a concern, especially on Tau, but remains to be seen on 3.8.

I think that is a good solution for those who need it. I can tell you that if a car had less dead pedal room that on current Genesis, I would not purchase it. Better for Hyundai to make it too long than too short.

You'll have to risk it.

The average height for all American men age 20+ is 5' 9.5". That's pretty close to my height. South Korean men are, likely, even shorter.

South Korean men are definitely shorter. I assume they just move their seats forward, or maybe the specs are slightly different.

I was looking at the dead spot for the footrest and the only way my foot fits is if I angle it towards the other pedals, not something that is comfortable or can be sustained for very long (size 10.5 shoes). I guess my height would be average based on the quote above.

Another "feature" that annoys me beyond belief is the green center mirror being default. I have to turn it off 100% of the time as soon as I get into the car. I want that "feature" to be off by default.

Did I mention I could use a turbo?

The left foot rest is commonly called a dead pedal. It's looks like a pedal, but it ain't. During the days when people actually used clutches, the dead pedal provided a place to keep your foot at rest, nearby at the ready, when not engaging the clutch.

To rest your left foot comfortably on the stock dead pedal at 5' 5", you would have to be eating the steering wheel.

genesis has 3 mirrors, the one you use to look backwards is the green center mirror. Green feature is what causes you not to get blinded when light hits it. There's a fancy word for it that escapes me but it basically goes from normal to green when light hits it.

Makes looking behind you a negative experience as now you can't see anything. It's on by default on cars with tech package.

That's called a rear view mirror and the others are called side mirrors (driver side and passenger side respectively). Technically you use all three to look 'backwards'.

The auto dim feature is what you are referring to? I don't believe that is on by default but rather controlled via photovoltaic sensor like the headlights (when on auto) and dash lights. Could be wrong as I didn't read the manual on it...but I've never noticed it on during the day and but it's definitely on at night in my '10 4.6 tech.

It's called a monochromatic mirror.
Yes it's always on by default even on non-tech cars from 2009.
I always turn it off manually (a pain); don't really need it with tinted windows.

Rspec owner here:

I love the price point for the current "all options" list of goodies. Shopping Audi and BMW & Cadillac lately, I can easily confirm what we already know. "Our genesis's are loaded with most of the best tech." Still, I would like these updates:

1. 3D google maps
2. Bluetooth streaming
3. Sound dampening on closing doors/trunk
4. Blind spot monitoring
5. Improved display with more custom select car set up (suspension, steering)
6. More power. Bigger brakes. SRT8 shredder edition. :D
7. Full ESC off
8. Night vision
9. HUD
10. Birds eye camera for parking & reverse
11. Remote start
12. Chilled/heated cup holders
13. Full panoramic sun roof including rear passengers
14. Improved dynamic styling.
15. Fold down rear seats
16. Shift paddles

It's interesting to read some of the overblown wish list items in this thread. Some of you guys have forgotten to include vertical takeoff and landing, as well as a wet bar and ejector passenger seat.

Revamped NAV so, it would ask for City before asking for Street. duh!
AWD Option.
Blind spot monitoring.
FOBs with dual memory positions.
Cooled passenger seat, heated rear seats.
Heater Steering Wheel.
Front camera.
Better leather quality on seats (current leather is too easy to be wrinkled).
Display PSI of tires individually.
Rear side window shades.
Rear seat 12V outlet.

Finally, improve the Climate Control System. When it's set to Auto mode, the Air Quality sensor (sniffer) is supposed to switch to recirculating cabin air as soon as it detects fumes from outside. I have noticed that the Genesis is not very good at this job. My 10 years old BMW had a much better Air Quality Control System. Also, the Climate Control takes way too long just to start blowing any air when I turn on the engine. On a very hot day here in Texas, when the car was parked at the sun, all I want is some air in my face when I turn on the engine. It doesn't matter it the air coming from the vents ain't cold at that moment, I just want some air movement inside that hot cabin.

Funny as I want the opposite here in the frigid north. I don't like how the Auto setting will actually let the fan spin at all when heat is selected but the engine has not yet warmed up enough to give off any heat. It makes cold mornings even colder when it's blowing frigid air at you. I guess we both get to take care of it manually in each respective situation though.

Wait ...what...It's not coming with a wet bar?? NO SALE !!

Agree with many posts. In addition, I would say, lots of road noise from the front tires; needs more sound proofing. And, provide a higher seat position adjustment on both front seats. When driving, my wife, who is 5'7" but has long legs (so her seated height is not all that high) has to use a supplemental cushion to see out! Otherwise, the car we have is fine, but will probably move on to something else if these issues are not addressed.

I will be non-conformist here. Although I'd also like many of the wish-list features posted here, the car I sold to buy this one (R-Spec) had all those features, cost $70,000+, and averaged one dealer service visit per month. I also bought this car so I could keep it a few years.

Yes, there are features the first-generation Genny lacks that would not necessarily have ratcheted the price way up. Better seats, more refined Lexicon and navigation functionality, and others are certainly on that list. However, it was Hyundai's first attempt in a more premium segment, and a darn good one.

So I'll buy the next generation Genny probably three years in, after I'm at 125-150k miles, and if its features and value proposition align with what I need.

On the other hand, God willing, I will recover from this current cycle of rational thinking and experience another bout of middle-life restlessness. If that happens, you can look for me driving something with more than 500hp. :D

1. 3D google maps

Google maps will be coming to Hyundai and Kia.

LOL!

Well, that is where the luxury market is going considering how much tech items mainstream models have (look at the Optima SXL or the Fusion Titanium).

But I wonder how many people will be willing to pony up the $$ for all of this tech gadgetry?

I figure the base price of the 2G Genesis to be around $38-39k, reflecting a higher grade interior, a body/frame w/ more ultra-high tensile steel, more aluminum bits (to keep down weight) and some added tech/safety items.

But w/ all the tech items on the "wishlist" for many, that would likely mean price tag close to $50k for a fully "loaded" Genesis (and that's for the V6); however, that would still be a bargain compared to a loaded 5 Series or Infiniti M.

My current car would have to have over 240,000 miles before I would consider any other car. Cars are a poor investment unless they are old classics and even then its sometimes hit or miss.
