  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why does the Hyundai Genesis have only one cooled seat?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Okay. Back to the cooled seat ordeal.. Let's somehow try and figure out how much more it could cost to make a seat cooled.. Obviously, there's only one cooled seat in the Hyundai Genesis - the driver's seat. I really NEED to KNOW why Hyundai did this..

Let's say it would have costed an extra $100.00 per vehicle to have the passenger seat cooled as well.. Couldn't Hyundai have raised the price $100.00? Or made it at least an option where if you wanted two front cooled seats - you could pay that extra hundred bucks?

Or does it costs THOUSANDS of dollars for a cooled seat? Please.. Somebody explain this to me.. I just don't understand...

I went to Genesis launch training yesterday. Trainer said that the OCS for the pass seat covers the entire seat bottom leaving no room for ventilation, hence no a/c. They are redesigning the OCS for future ventilated pass seat.

BTW, the Genesis is awesome. It drives like no other Hyundai.

It shouldn't be very hard to figure out. Passenger cooled seats are available on the Korean model.

Somewhere in Korea, tucked in a drawer there are detailed instructions detailing how to cool the passenger seat. I think this would be a great place to start!

I can sense your sarcasm and I don't blame you.

Don't shoot the messenger! :p I think the trainer is just stating what he's been told...

I guess the passenger is in the hot seat.

Maybe it was just a cost issue, heck they threw the kitchen sink in but not this? Allowing for dual AC seats would have been simple to achieve in the design process.

It's available in the Korean version so it's very confusing as to why they left it out. I couldn't have costed very much to have it in the American version and would have been a nominal extra charge to cover costs..

I asked about the passenger cooled seat at the Discover Genesis Tour event in Minneapolis.

The reason they gave (not the event operators - but the one person they had there that was actually from Hyundai) was that they had some problems making the cooled seat work with the technology that turns on the air-bag when a certain weight is sitting in the front seat. They claimed that the decision was not based on cost.

If that is true (I know that is a big "if") then does that mean that the Korean version doesn't have the airbag/weight functionality??

Sorry guys, I hate to be the grouch on this but I don't believe any of this. I believe the passenger seat not being cooled is a cost cutting measure. A lot of other manufacturers seems to be able to make a passenger seat that is cooled. I'm certain Hyundai can do it. They are pretty talented.

If you want to take the argument further, a lot of people claim that Hyundai simply steals designs and ideas from other manufacturers. If, in fact, this is true they could simply reverse engineer the cooled seats on the Infiniti M35. Hyundai has made is very clear that the M35 was one of the vehicles they looked very closely at when creating the Genesis. I'm pretty sure there are a couple dismantled M's laying around Hyundai R&D.

You know actually that makes sense. US has the requirement to turn off the airbag when a person less than 90 lbs is in the pass seat. If that's not true it's damn good explaination!
