  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why does the Hyundai Genesis have only one cooled seat?

Okay. To me, there's only one fault with the car - and it's the SINGLE cooled seat - the driver's seat. Why doesn't the passenger have a cooled seat? I guess it's not the most unheard of thing being that many cars have more electronic positioning options for the driver - but this is the first time I've seen a single cooled seat in a vehicle..

Since this is a game changing car (much like the Lexus LS in 1990), I think Hyundai needs to offer as much as possible.

Perhaps the single unit is only for the Korean version? Who knows, they may put the passenger side as well for the US bound models. Also, as I have said before, I don't think the first year will be a success. It all depends on what the word of mouth of the buyers turns out to be. The first year for any new vehicle is risky, it takes a few years to discover the problems and nicks to be corrected on any new vehicles.

I hope you're right regarding the cooled seat - but from everything I've read, it seems there will only be one. The Genesis sedan is expensive-looking - so it will cause at least a small ruckus once people start seeing it on the road...

Well, it's highly derivative. Part of the reason that I am not a fan of Hyundais, I wished they've gone more with the concept which was less derivative and looked far better.
It seems that more often than not, the concepts look better than the production versions. For whatever reason, things seem to get softened up a bit in the end. Maybe to appease the masses.. The Coupe may still see some changes before we see it. Maybe Hyundai is just gauging interest at this point...

That's the thing that I don't like about Hyundai. Look at Pontiac and their Solstice. It's virtually un-touched from the concept, and remains it's great lines. Even the 2004 Grand Prix(which I have the 08), when they first introduced as a concept with the word G-force added to it, it's the same car, un-touched, even the Aussie G8 hasn't been changed from its first introduction, though I hate G8. Why can't Hyundai do that? They could have just released the concept as is as the production car, and they could have removed the criticism of copying others less than now.

I'm not quite sure why Hyundai didn't leave it alone. Maybe their "panel" of experts told them this new design was the way to go. It's likely a decision of more than one person - so it's hard to say what they were thinking.. Besides, I think Pontiac has more experience in this game than Hyundai - so comparing them may be a bit unfair. I mean - look at Pontiac's history.. Pretty impressive....

Can someone post up some before and after pics? As far as the single A/C seat, doesn't bother me in the slightest. How many other auto makers offer Driver's side only A/C seating? If none, well then they are changing the game :)

Oh btw, welcome aboard. :)

I just hope they're not changing the game in a backwards sense! :o

As for the concept Genesis sedan - those headlights probably didn't meet some type of regulations. I remember so many people complaining about the Lincoln Mark VIII headlights when the body style first changed. They were thin just like the Genesis concept... So that was probably a big factor in how the front-end changed...

I have seen some sedans with the Hyundai badge then others with the Genesis badge. For instance in the pictures posted up earlier the first one has the flying H, second none, and then Genesis in the third. Do we know which will be used going forward or will they try to separate the V8 by making it the only model to receive the Genesis badge?

Hyundai will be using the "Hyundai" badge on the grille of the Genesis in the United States...

Well. I will have to yank (pardon the pun) that sucker.

Speaking of the logo, I prefer the old logo they been using as you can see on the video here.

I lost the url of the youtube, and couldn't find it in Youtube last night, so I just posted a link above, of my site. It's an old Korean commercial of 1974 Hyundai Pony(one of the early models of Hyundai). You can see their original logo toward the end. It's plain, and I think I'm the only one, but I prefer that over the flying H.

Thank you. Yes, the logo is indeed in that video..

Okay.. No in order to keep this topic on point - let's keep further discussion in regards to the single cooled seat... :)

Does anyone have any further thoughts about it? Maybe some new people will come along and share their feelings...

The lack of a cooled passenger seat is, indeed, a mystery. For some of us old timers it is reminiscent of the first Mustang. The early Mustang (known as the 1964 1/2) came with a fixed/non-adjustable bucket seat for the passenger. The oversight was corrected on the later 1965 models.

Mustang trivia: There is officially no such thing as a 1964 1/2 Mustang. All first year models are registered as 1965s; but all Mustang collectors refer to the earliest introductory models as 1964 1/2.
