  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Wind Noise Issues - Mirrors

I've never had a whistle sound on my G70, at any speed. Just finished a little road trip today and it was smooth, quiet, and comfortable. No whistling whatsoever.

I wonder what's causing it?

I’ve not head this yet in my 2020 sport. If the sunroof is open but windows up, can you hear the whistle? If you know it’s from the outside mirrors, would be interesting to tape over areas around the mirrors with some painters tape to see if you can find the exact cause. Make some little folds in the tape as well for that will disrupt airflow as it goes around the mirror. If it’s a design issue with the shape of the mirror and aerodynamics, might be hard to correct that?
I think your idea is good but go a step further. If tape on the mirror makes no difference put some tape over door seams or window seams.

Most car makers do wind tunnel testing, plus all the road testing, plus all the cars in use that do not have the noise. IMO, if it was the mirror design many people would complain but if it is a door gasket or poor fit on a door a few may see it.

The OP also says he hears it through the audio feed. I have to wonder if it is not wind at all but an electronics problem. How would wind noise on a mirror feed back through the audio system? Does it make a difference if the radio is on? Other electronics? If I could find a road with little traffic and set the cruise I'd play with every control for sounds and ventilation available. Could it be a damper not closing properly?

nope- I meant to say that even with the stereo playing to drown it out I can still here it.

I re-read your original post. I didn't realize it was only making that sound with the driver's window down. I usually don't drive with the windows down at that speed (~55mph). With the windows up I have no whistling whatsoever.

Please clarify... Does it make that sound with all the windows down? Or only the driver's side window down?

And speaking of wind noise being tested prior to arrival to the market, let's not forget the new Supra. That thing has HORRIBLE wind noise with the windows down, and it was found to be an aerodynamic side effect of an otherwise well designed car. It's very possible our cars have a whistle at moderate speeds with the windows down.

Also does it whistle with the windows all the way down, quarter, etc?

I didn't catch that either. Window down introduces dozens of possibilities to make noise. Introducing air at that velocity also forces air out through any seams and openings to other compartments.

One reason I bought a Genesis was the climate control. Only time my window is down is at the drive thru window and my speeds are usually lower.

I'm similar. I only have the windows all the way down if I'm cruising at neighborhood speeds. Occasionally I'll have them almost 1/4 of the way down when going faster.

I rarely drive with my windows down. Remember when you would use thumbtacks to hold the headliner up? No thanks, I don't want to risk messing up the nice alcantara one in our cars.

I have it as well, I believe it is the side mirror raised spots. It is insane. I did not hear it until my husband put the window down to smoke lol. He is not allowed in my car anymore 🤣
