If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Genesis Lighting

Yep H8. Not hard to change. Take out a few plastic screws in inner fender liner. Pull back. Unclip harness, remove bulb. Insert bulb then reverse the steps.

thanks appreciate that, any good sites to get some bright h8s from?

Stick to the factory foglights or similar. Having bright foglights will produce too much light in the foreground, produce more glare and reduce your distance vision. High levels of foreground light give the illusion, the subjective impression, of comfort and security and "good lighting". The fog lamps' job is to show you the edges of the road, the lane markings, and the immediate foreground

FYI....

Position bulbs next to the highbeams.
I tried installing 2 bulbs from www.autolumination.com

Item #: 194 168 W5W 2825 Supernova Bulbs With Metal Heat Sink (Superwhite).

Installed the first one, after a couple minutes it started blinking then after installing the 2nd one that one started binking. These were brand new bulbs and both are bad or not the rights ones for the "position" lights.:(

Will be trying some new bulbs in a couple of weeks. I have two different ones to use if the first set does not work again!

The new bulbs I am going try are from the same vendor. I think "scottdk" used them with great success.

Below is how I modified my 31mm 2-5055 festoon bulbs to fit in vanity mirror. Cracked outer plastic housing and resoldered each end cap closer to the board, reducing overall length of the bulb. I was unable to get the bulbs to fit by modifying the contacts inside the bulb housing like is possible in the trunk.

Pics Below...
Original bulb on top
then modified LED
unmodified 31mm LED
You can see there is no way the 31MM would fit

I installed two LED panels in my trunk.

^ Link to actual panel please? The trunk lights in this thing don't do anything. It's like trying to light a basement with a candle.

Thanksf for the link Mo! Just ordered one up for my Optima, since the stipid light in the truck is worthless, and the mini bulb housing is way too small to fit a descent bulb in. The LED in your link will work:)

BTW - a bright LED bulb will fit in the actual light housing of the trunk of the Genesis.....cleaner fit and finish. Some pics a few pages back on this thread, but I don't think I posted mine.

EDIT - The pic below is one of the few 2009 Genesis sedans that didn't get the finished trunk deck carpet piece.

Hi guys need you experience!

i know the fog lights are h8 are the DRL also h8 ?

I ordered led h8 bulbs for the fog lights however from closer inspection there is a front facing 5watt cree led on the h8 bulb ordered. I inspected the fog light and there is a light diffuser blocking all light from the front of the h8...only allowing light from the sides to be reflected out.

2. If drl is h8 then ill use the h8 led ordered for the drls

Please advise,

Thanks

Thanks for the help !

Bottom line dont buy led lights with front firing bulb, it will be blocked by the interior cover.
Using the led bulb in factory housing will reduce output. Must be side firing lights.

Dont try to remove the diffuser, damage will result.

Stick with hid mod and hope it doesnt splash too much unwanted light.

Potty_Pants,

I don't have diffuser in my fog lights (2011 4.6). Do you think it will be too much light from these LED bulbs with front firing?

Wow thanks for the info. Ill try to get a pair of those.

As far as light even though they say 20 watt each they are for decorative purposes. I believe the 35watt stock or directional of that light makes the stock look brighter

So no not a ton of light to cause a problem. Since you dont have a diffuser. Go for it.

**** Message To GS300rich *****

Regarding the courtesy lights... I was going the parts catalog at www.superbrightleds.com. I noticed that they have an alternate single LED that has greater power (60 lumens) and the following specifications...
Part num: WLED-NWLX
Color: Natural White
Brightness: 60 lumens
Voltage: 8~30V
Current Draw @ 12V 70 mA
Dominant Wavelength: 6000K
Beam Angle: 120 degrees

This light has approx. the same dimensions as the 12 LED light you considered but has a warmer (less bluish) colour and a greater brightness. Is there a reason why you did not consider this bulb?

Sorry to bump this old thread. But if anyone is using this today to decide on LED upgrades (like me), I thought it might help to know that I installed today the Courtesy/Puddle Lights WLED-NWLX in Natural White from SuperBrightLeds.com, and they blend very well with the interior LED color temp and indeed are brighter than the single LED bulb often suggested. I installed those first and the color match is very good, but I agree the standard Single SMD is about the same brightness as the OEM. The WLED-NWLX is about 1/2 step or maybe more than 1/2 step brighter. I can post pics if anyone is interested. Note though that, although the wedge base is correct, these do not install easily in the driver or passenger footwells. The bulb size, although larger, would fit, but I found the install pressure needed into the contacts pushes the contact holder out of its slot. Had to remove screws to get fingers on bulb slot to twist it back into place. Anyway, hope this helps someone. Also, anyone looking for ideal non marring tool to remove the various lens covers, get yourself a set of vinyl pry tools from Harbor Freight (avail online too). They work perfectly.

Thanks to everyone for all the information. It is most helpful for those of us who don't think the stock bulbs give enough light. I will follow the group and install the bulbs that the consensus feel give the best results. I need to replace the rear passenger light anyway so I might as well do the rest.

2009 3.8 with 115K miles most at high speed as the photo will attest. Dear Highway Troopers, I will NOT state where the photo was taken or under what circumstances.
