Just sold off my BMW researched alternatives and decided on the 2015 Genesis. I've had it for 3 days...great car. I have most of the tech figured out and it's pretty impressive. The V8 has great pickup and is smooth. Not as quiet as my BMW (regarding road noise), but definitely quiet enough. The seats are comfortable and overall, the layout of the features and operative controls are in good intuitive places.
The redesign of the exterior is really nice. They gave it a much more sporty look, slimmed down from previous models (pic attached). The back end lights are definitely distinguishable among other car brands. The rims compliment the car well too in my opinion. Looks like replacement tires are going to set you back around $1,000 (they are 2 different sizes front/back) but much better than the run flats I had to get on my BMW which were closer to $1,500 to replace.
Not that I need it right now, but I was told that the maps are located on a SDHC (or similar) that is inserted in the dash where those horizontal lines are located. If that's true, that will make the maps much easier to have updated rather than the dealer having to go directly into the hard drive of the Nav system...hopefully less expensive to update too as a result.
Overall, Hyundai is definitely catching the attention of previous owners of Mercedes, BMW, etc. and the recognition is well deserved. I saw a few other high-end vehicle brands that had been traded for this model. I do find it interesting (with myself included) that the Equus that is intended to compete with the likes of larger sedans (Mercedes S Class, Lexus LS460, BMW 7) doesn't have near the exterior appeal as the Genesis from an exterior design standpoint. Now that they have extended the wheelbase for the Genesis it makes this model a consideration for competing with those larger sedans as well as the Equus.
If I had to change something (personal preference I realize) I don't like the colored metallic in the black as much as I like a true black (like the car looks when in the shade or under low light situations). It takes away from the black color to see all those flecks of yellow, green, blue, red, etc. However, a friend of mine commented on how much he likes that so it's a matter of personal taste. It's already decorated for when Christmas comes.
I'll post more thoughts in the days ahead as a discover more things. Overall, I believe I made a good choice.
