  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just sold off my BMW researched alternatives and decided on the 2015 Genesis. I've had it for 3 days...great car. I have most of the tech figured out and it's pretty impressive. The V8 has great pickup and is smooth. Not as quiet as my BMW (regarding road noise), but definitely quiet enough. The seats are comfortable and overall, the layout of the features and operative controls are in good intuitive places.

The redesign of the exterior is really nice. They gave it a much more sporty look, slimmed down from previous models (pic attached). The back end lights are definitely distinguishable among other car brands. The rims compliment the car well too in my opinion. Looks like replacement tires are going to set you back around $1,000 (they are 2 different sizes front/back) but much better than the run flats I had to get on my BMW which were closer to $1,500 to replace.

Not that I need it right now, but I was told that the maps are located on a SDHC (or similar) that is inserted in the dash where those horizontal lines are located. If that's true, that will make the maps much easier to have updated rather than the dealer having to go directly into the hard drive of the Nav system...hopefully less expensive to update too as a result.

Overall, Hyundai is definitely catching the attention of previous owners of Mercedes, BMW, etc. and the recognition is well deserved. I saw a few other high-end vehicle brands that had been traded for this model. I do find it interesting (with myself included) that the Equus that is intended to compete with the likes of larger sedans (Mercedes S Class, Lexus LS460, BMW 7) doesn't have near the exterior appeal as the Genesis from an exterior design standpoint. Now that they have extended the wheelbase for the Genesis it makes this model a consideration for competing with those larger sedans as well as the Equus.

If I had to change something (personal preference I realize) I don't like the colored metallic in the black as much as I like a true black (like the car looks when in the shade or under low light situations). It takes away from the black color to see all those flecks of yellow, green, blue, red, etc. However, a friend of mine commented on how much he likes that so it's a matter of personal taste. It's already decorated for when Christmas comes. :-)

I'll post more thoughts in the days ahead as a discover more things. Overall, I believe I made a good choice. :welcome:

Hi. What part of CA are you in? I have a friend in Palm Springs who wants a V8, but he's being told, they won't be available for 2-3 more months.

I am glad you like your transition. I will get the 2015 generation(2/3?) model in a few years.

I'm in Southern CA...just about 1 1/2 hours away from PS. Just last week there was both the V6 and V8 at Puente Hills Hyundai. Would be a nice drive home for your friend. They have them out in this area...he may be being told that since the dealer wants the sale. Keep in mind, however, from what I'm being told there is only Black w/ Black and White w/ Beige available right now in our area.

Congratulations and welcome. I agree about the 15's metallic black paint. I saw it in bright sun and it looked like somebody had throw glitter all over the car. As to the Equus, you have to remember that it's still in its first generation skin. You can bet that the second generation will be a big step forward.

Thank you, I will let him know. And it's 1 1/2 hours under the best of times, or 2,3,4 or more most times:)

Wow, from a 7 series to a Genesis. That surely is an impressive compliment to Hyundai. If I could handle the upkeep of black, that would surely be my pick. How about a few pics of your new toy? Congrats! ;)

If you get a black car in Houston, you sell your range and cook directly on the hood.

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the new ride. Post up some pics when you get a chance.

Here's a comparison to the BMW 7 I had...Definitely different but also some very similar traits as well.

I also saw 2 Mercedes (S and E class) that had been traded in for this vehicle. I agree...that's impressive.

Thanks, so far I'm enjoying the car. I'm not getting great gas mileage at 16.8 (comparable to my BMW) but everything else is good! Here's the Audi grill comparison...

I think they took a lot of design queues from the back of the Audi also.

This is actually a better comparison for the Audi to the back end of the Genesis due to the cross diagonal of the back lights. They are very similar.

I think those Luxury trade ins were a need of change and why not be light on the pocket book at the same time. I actually priced out the cheapest Mercedes E series last week. An E250 diesel to be exact. Starting price was a nice 57,000 however by the time I added in most of the goodies the Genesis has, we were up to $70,000 and I still did not have several of the features in comparison. If i would have gone 550E, we are talking another $10,000+. Just got ridiculous in the end.

A few people here have been complaining on how much the Genesis looses in value however it holds its own and actually does better than the big German names. All luxury vehicles loose big time in no time. If you want to a vehicle that looses little then buy an Accent. Has one of the best resale vales of all cars right now. The vast majority want cheap on gas, high in features and cheap in price. Not going to happen in the Luxury bracket.

I can attest having now owned 2 BMW 7 series that those cars are hit very hard in depreciation...very. Mine was a 2010 with only 37,500 miles and it was worth just over $40,000...for what was originally $95,000. I think the hardest part for most trading to a Hyundai is to get over the reputation factor from going from a Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Audi etc. to a Hyundai. That isn't to say I don't think that Hyundai is certainly giving those guys a good run...in fact the Genesis was crowned Car of the Year for 2009...and surprised the big names. Ever since, Hyundai has been on an escalating trend of style and value and if they keep it up, it wouldn't surprise me if more of the big luxury name owners consider trading out to Hyundai. It's impressive what they have done in such a short period.

Mercedes are heavily discounted - an E350 can be had $10K off putting it not so out of range.

I look forward to data that backs that up.
