  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2011 Genesis 4.6

heated front driver seat burned out. Warranty work

steering wheel would periodically "lock" while trying to make a high speed right turn. Problem was not repeatable for 12 months. Finally found that there was a defective gear box that they replaced under warranty. No problems now

Backup camera occassionally will go blank. Not repeatable and thus not yet resolved. My guess is a loose connection but still unresolved

They have replaced quite a few backup cameras with intermittent failures under warranty. Try to video it when it happens, or a simple photo that shows the camera and the car in reverse at the same time should work.

New problem.

Wheel vibration 30 mph and up. It's been to 3 different shops 5 times for a total for $140 in balancing. Roadforce balancing shows the wheels are not bent and there is no tire runout. I called Hyundai Customer Care to push them into looking more into it since they gave up simply after eyeballing bushings and balancing the tires. When Hyundai called the dealer to find out what was up and to see if they needed to send their regional guy over the dealership lied and said they found the problem and then made up something that A) was never brought up to me as a cause because B) I could have told them that this can't even cause it to begin with. So as far as Hyundai Customer Care is concerned this issue has been resolved. Where we are now is that they want me to shell out $1,200 to "test" a possible solution because they won't investigate further.

I'm going through the same issue right now. I hope my outcome is better than yours (though I wish you well on yours just the same).

I've been looking at IS350/G37 as a backup, but would much rather keep this car; I can put up with a few 'here-and-there's', but shaking at all speeds is too unbearable to drive every day.

Yes I have. I have had brake issues that started at about 36,000 miles. The brakes on occasion would mash to the floor like there was no resistance at all. I remember pulling into a hotel valet and freaked when I have no braking. I pumped the brakes and it came back. It happened at least 5 times on me and a couple on my wife and daughter. I finally got all my records from the dealer and consulted a Lemon Law attorney after the last time it happened on April 10, 2012. That day I took it to the dealer and they said that there was finally a Tech Order on it. WOW! Then just before Christmas this year a recall came out #14 for, you guessed it, the brakes being mussy.

Needless to say I contacted my LLL again who is in the process of getting me some cash from Hyundai, but not a lot since it has 79,000 at this point but I will take whatever he gets me.

That's it. I still love this car but I had to deal with this issue throughout.

About to take mine in for check engine light for stuck thermostat.

On a different note tested a 2013 R Spec definitely fun but felt so much heavier. My base v6 feels like a go cart compared to it.

I have a 2013 3.8 with Tech and Permium . Car is a month old . First the amp went out and it was fixed with a fuse removal and reinsert .
then the door locks failed , replaced the actuator . Failed again and replaced the handle . Never left the dealer as the mirrors and the seat belt system failed . Now it looks like a relay and BCM . At least they gave me another Gen 3.8 to use . Looks like possible lemon law issue

Depending on your state, won't be a lemon law issue unless they have tried without success a certain number of times to fix a continual issue.

2011 coupe: Key will not rotate. Tried lubricating lock. If you turn key normal it gets stuck, have to do it quick with a flick of the wrist. Worried problem may get me stuck.

2013 3.8 Premium. The rear passenger side of the sunroof seems not to be "seating" correctly (or I should say, enough) when closed. Closing the sunroof either from open or tilt. There is a gap of about 1/8" or so, whereas on the driver's side it's completely flush with the roof when closed. Some water came in during a car wash the other day spotting the headliner on that side. (I took pictures.) But I won't be able to take it in to dealership for awhile due to work. Dammit.

My newest problem is my lights. Interior and exterior lights are malfunctioning. The interior lights will only come on when you exit the vehicle. The head and tail lights do not go off at all. They'll come on automatically, but, they do not go off. Also, the interior lights may or may not go off when you exit the car.
Had to wait 3 hours and of course they have to order the part!!!!! I'm so damn tired of all these weird problems I could scream. If I live long enough and have any equity in this bucket of bolts I will buy a Toyota/Lexus. NEVER another Hyundai. BTW, the waiting room had probably 10 people in it all bitching about their Hyundais.

Purchased a 2012 V6 Premium in July 2011.

I currently have 28,000, mostly highway miles on it.

I have had the following problems:

Body panels were very poorly aligned from the factory. They fixed some of this issue, but not 100%
A bad TPMS sensor.
Leaking rear end seal.
Navigation freeze up which was eventually fixed by replacement.
Dead battery which needed replacement at 35 months.
Broken rear seat clips.
Some type of front wheel suspension part needed replacement.

That's what I can remember. Too many problems for a car that is driven very gingerly. Its by no means a Honda.

I own 2 Genesis..... A 2011 and a 2014...... Never had a problem with either. Cannot say that about my previous Lexus 07 GS350.

It seems that once in awhile someone gets a Genesis that is riddled with problems for whatever reason. But it is more 'Lemon Like' than a problem with the Model itself. This was not true with my Lexus. Everybody had problems with that model on the forum I was on.

Having read the first few pages of this thread and jumping to the latest posts, I've come to a conclusion. You roll the dice when you chose the car to purchase. There is a scary possibility that two seemingly identical models will deliver totally different ownership experiences. The reasoning for the vast differences may forever remain unknown. I'm going into the fifth month of ownership of my R spec and have to admit there have been very few complaints. Aside from an annoying whistle in the driver's door mirror at speed and the common soot build-up at the exhaust tips, I have no beef with the car. One particularly troubling issue is an occasional whiff of antifreeze I've noticed lately. I cannot see any leaks and the level remains the same, but, still smell it even after it's parked for a few hours. Has anyone else found this issue? Curiously, I had the same concern with my prior '13 Track Coupe, but the service writer blew it off like I was crazy. Anybody?

It could be the antifreeze from the washer fluid. I noticed the smell myself and realized it occurred after I used the windshield washer.

Most folks down here in FL don't need or use antifreeze in the washer fluid.

Give your car a good walk around with your trusty sniff after a drive, and keep an eye on the coolant level.

The early 1990s GM 3.0 L engines used to have lots of gasket problems. Intake manifold leaks would bubble out onto the block and vaporize, giving you a whiff but leave no drops. Couldn't tell while the car was moving, sometimes noticeable when turning on the outside vent while driving, but really noticeable after the engine got hot and you lifted the hood.

Thanks for the tips my friends. I, too thought there may be a gasket venting issue brewing. Ultimately, this would show as a stain or deposit left behind by the dried antifreeze, if you're lucky enough to have visual access to the point of the leak. I'll continue to monitor the level and get it to the (gulp) local dealer if it drops or the odor worsens or increases in frequency. On the other hand, the washer fluid in the bottle is likely what came from the factory and MAY have a little extra something in it for those poor SOBs up north. Cars down here get a daily shower courtesy of Mother Nature. I don't use the squirts very often and that may explain it. I'll pass along any Intel I gather.

Let me add a few more issues. Now at about 38,000 miles.

Metallic window trim peeled.
Steering wheel tilt switch.

I have noticed a faint anti-freeze smell in my 2010 v8 as well, I thought I was going crazy... hrm
