In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I just bought subs for my g35 but i will trading in the car now and want to know if i will be able to install the aftermarket subs/ amp in the genesis with the nav system?

If you get the Tech package you are getting in integrated SUB. You might want to listen to the system before adding more.

The Lexicon audio system was carefully designed and tuned for accurate frequency response across the audio band, including the sub-woofer. If you just want a boom box with the bass all out of proportion to the other frequencies, then you can do whatever you want.

Stock subs will never reach the level of satisfaction for a real music freak like myself.

It's not designed for it either!! It's just meant to hit the low notes that traditional woofers can not.

I have put my 2 10" subs in the Genesis, since I already had them in my last car and it sounds amazing. It doesn't have to be a "Boom Box" but there is NO WAY the stock sub can balance out the rest of the Lexicon system.

A subwoofer is meant to enhance all types of music, so when I listen to Slipknot, I want to feel the Bass Drum in my chest and my hair should move.

It does.

If I want to turn the bass down when my dad is in the car and plays Neil Diamond, it still sounds better than the stock since my subs hit notes the stock doesn't.

I have to admit that I may not have made a purchase of all the wires, subs, amp, capacitor etc., but since I had everything it made sense.

AND, it was a cheap install since the battery is located in the truck.

Hope this helped.

thank you thank you thank you, helped very much.

now i noticed you have the tech package, was there any complication getting the subs installed? It wont mess up the the rest of the system correct? I dont want the dash of my brand new 40k car ripped apart.

Why not add a few more batteries to the trunk, wire them in series, and run the output to your seat? I guarantee it will feel just like someone is beating a drum on your chest, and your hair will definitely move.

Nope, they will not even go into the dash (there is no need to), which was my biggest concern.

Being the battery is in the back, everything is ran there including the remote (blue) wire.

I have 2, 10' MTX, I forget the model, but they are silver in color, and which I really like these subs since they are not priced like others that Best Buy carries, which are priced because of the name.

I've had them for probably 5 years or so, but they do sound wonderful.

Hi Scottdk,

I have a black on black, with the tech package,

Can you tell me where/how you have the 2 10" subs mounted please? I will consider doing this as well.

Thanks

Ha ha ha! Wow, Mark that made me laugh out loud! I thought your comment was halarious!

Thanks for the humor Mark :)

i bet they can just run the feed wire off of the factory subwoofer instead of running it from the head unit -- I might do this as well . . .

Yes that is what I had my installer do since this would avoid an unnecessary dash rip apart and extra costs. In-line conversion:)

I like the way you think Mark! If he follows your advice, his hair isn't the only thing that will move!

Aftermarket subs make a HUGE difference in the sound quality.
I myself will be changing the sub as soon as I can once I get my V8/Tech Genesis (Late April)

Here's what I had done with my current Azera as soon as I got it.

This is where the spare tire was...

This is the sub that I installed...

and finally when I installed the carpet over it...

I can assure you that it makes a MAJOR difference in the sound output...
Can't wait to get my Genesis...this waiting is torture...

Most interesting. The volume of the spare enclosure would in fact work nicely to resonate the sub freqs. Technically, the idea is that the enclosure is not supposed to move in any way. Its job is to reflect all waves forward, pushing the driver forward into the free air (and yes, out the ports) In this design, you're allowing the low freqs to resonate in the cavity thus transferring the vibration into the car frame. I'm sure you're right that it is awesome, especially in the seat :)

I gotta say--- the closeup pic of the sub... with the fence in the background... it LOOKED about 4 feet tall!!!

Three questions---

1. Did you calculate the ports (length, volume, etc.) or was it a SWAG?
2. What's the plan for the 'flat day'? Guessing that you thuroughly thought it through.
3. How does it sound with groceries on top? (the family thing...)

1. Did you calculate the ports (length, volume, etc.) or was it a SWAG?

Yes...it came out to 3.1cu.ft and the frequency was calculated for 32HZ

2. What's the plan for the 'flat day'? Guessing that you thoroughly thought it through.

Actually, I've been working on the road for 25+ years and never got a flat.
Did I plan for it...not really but if that day comes I'll just deal with it.

3. How does it sound with groceries on top? (the family thing...)

This was the biggest surprise to me. Every year we go on camping trips and we pack the car pretty good...I was really surprised how much bass was still been delivered despite the trunk being full. The trick is NOT to block the ports!

To me it beats the hell out of putting a box in the trunk that takes so much room. I'll never do that again. And you're right that it resonates even more because it is part of the car that way. I can assure you that my car vibrates a hell of alot without delivering 1000's of watts.

Regards,

Nice work. But this truly puts you at the mercy of Hyundai Roadside Assistance or AAA, etc., right? No spare tire!
