  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Aftermarket Subs in Genesis?

Nice work. But this truly puts you at the mercy of Hyundai Roadside Assistance or AAA, etc., right? No spare tire!

moose66, yes absolutely correct...plus I have some very good friends and tons of customers all over my province if I ever need them that day...

I have to say QCTLG, that I'm totally impressed! I pride myself on thinking of the unusaul... different. But this beats me! Brilliant, well thought out. Functional.

In our company, every piece of software we create must be CHIFF
Clever
High Quality
Innovative
Functional
Fun

I declare this as a totally CHIFF mod!

Mr. genesis...why thank you very much for the compliment...BUT...I cannot take the credit. I have been dealing with my car stereo dealer for almost 20 years and he's the one that shared this idea with me and I of course said DO IT!

Regards,

Finally took pics of what my setup is............

Amp is mounted on the rear seat behind the subs and the capacitor is located under the matt next to the spare tire. The rubber trunk matt makes the box slide all over the trunk, so these 2 adjustable bungie cords from Target hold the box firmly in place. I have the cords hooked up to the cargo tray metal loops.

The bungie trick is a good idea...
How do you like the sound with the added subs?
Did you change anything else audio related?

Looks good!

The sound is great and well balanced. Having a sub or subs doesn't always mean "hey let's rattle the car.", but balances out the sounds of the music better than without a sub. The stock sub does a fine job, but lacks sound quality at higher volume levels. I haven't changed anything thing else audio related, and couldn't think of what to even change. Great System!

Hope this helped.....

I recently put a 10in kicker cvr subwoofer and also a kicker mono 1500 watt amp. I really did not want to go with more than one because I just wanted to have just a little more bass which did the trick and i am glad I went that route!!!!

I'm intrigued by this entire thread. If there is one consistent assessment in all of the reviews done on the Genesis, it is how incredibly remarkable the sound system is on this car. Given that, why would you want to mess with it? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", would seem to apply here.

Also, would the mods to the sound system discussed here void the warranty on the sound and potentially the entire electrical system?

I have a tech package with Lexicon system but after driving around for a few weeks and listening to a good amount of 320kps MP3's (via USB or iPhone), CD's, and XM and HD FM radio I can say that I am a little disappointed in the low end bass output at higher volumes. I know a lot of this music very well and there is something missing there.. even in this otherwise awesome Lexicon system. I have started researching how to add an additional subwoofer to my Genesis without ruining the car/warranty/Lexicon system. I like the spare enclusure idea but kind of want that spare on hand. I want something of good quality but also dont need it taking up my whole trunk and it shouldnt costs my a paycheck on labor to get it installed.

Long story short.. I think adding a sub to the Lexicon system is probably a good move.

There are a lot of people who want a lot of bass on every track even if such sounds are not present in on the original recording. They are not interested in an "accurate" sound system. There really isn't much one can say in response to that if that is what some people really want.

Personally, I think JimmyJohn's makes the best subs.

In my own case I don't feel I need an entire enclosure to meet my bass needs. I don't feel like I require much but I have found the Genesis to be somewhat weak with the bass.

I would have to think this is possible but let me ask just to be sure. The reason I don't want an enclosure is to try to keep the look of the vehicle as close to stock as possible. Would an option be to put a bigger or upgraded driver in current subwoofer location, attach an amp, and use the speaker cable coming to that sub to be inserted into some device that would change that signal to a signal that could be accepted by the amp? Does that make sense?

If this is possible and a "device" like this exists would it degrade the sound quality in anyway by having it go through that signal conversion?

I also have 2 MTX 10" Subs in my Genesis. My stereo gurus wired it up to the factory head unit with no problem what so ever. They even installed a kill switch under the dash for when my friends start to bitch about their hearing going bye-bye. They told me the install was as simple as any they had completed in the past.

I have 2, 10' MTX, I forget the model, but they are silver in color, and which I really like these subs since they are not priced like others that Best Buy carries, which are priced because of the name.

I've had them for probably 5 years or so, but they do sound wonderful.

Can you tell me more about the remote wire? Where exactly is it?

Ed

Nope, they will not even go into the dash (there is no need to), which was my biggest concern.

Being the battery is in the back, everything is ran there including the remote (blue) wire.

Can you tell me exactly where the blue remote wire is?

Ed

The remote wire (blue) was ran under the side step plates to the front passenger fuse panel on the side of the dash when you open the door.

Hope this helps:)

Scott,

Just to make sure I'm clear, did you need to run a new remote wire or did you tap into one that was already run?

Thanks, cant wait to do this!

There was a new remote wire ran. I tried to post a pic to show you, but "upload failed".

I can email you a pic if you would like.....send me a PM if so.

Thanks

Thanks. No need for a picture. I was hoping that a remote wire was already run that I could tap into. There is likely one in the bundle of wires connected to the stock amp. If we had a wiring diagram we might be able to figure it out. It just makes the install that much easier.

Actually, the running of the remote wire from the amp to the front fuse panel tooke less then 5 minutes.
