Remote ESC disable mod.

I just got everything wired up and installed and tested for proper operation (correct lights turn on/off on the dash). I'll have to wait to find some open space to act inappropriate which probably means this weekend.

let me know if your 2010 has a true limited slip rear diff would you.
I have found that my 2011 does not. with traction control completely off via this mod if you do a donut the ass of the car does not swing around. and you can see the dark one wheel tire mark on the ground.

More like RC phase for me :D

David...check post#15

Dareckbmw, sorry I missed that post. I think one of these should do nicely:

Good show my man, but please be careful out there...

Genesis 4.6, that is interesting! as in my 2009 both wheels will leave a mark, although I do not recall if that is the case with the R-Spec!

But hopeuly should find out whenever winter desides to leave us this year, as I owe Dareckbmw an updated drifting video titled 'ballet dance with the princes in white'... Just prior to the need to upgrade to a new tire set.. :D

yes I had read on the forum here that in the mid 2010 year change and up they did away with true mechanical LSD in favor of the traction controlled LSD. I think if your car has mechanical parking brake you have LSD if its electronic it does not.
I tried checking through hyundai if my car has true LSD everything comes back yes but the reality is they consider it lsd because the brake will stop the one wheel. And it does if I just push the esc off button I can slide the ass around just like a LSD diff. But at what cost to my brake pads and rotor. My solution will be to source an 09 lsd diff and put in.;)

Wow never knew that. You can see it in the picture below. Site I got it from says it's a 2010.

Guess you'd need he mechanical parking brake too unless you don't care abut that.

All I wanna know is will this improve my 1/4 mile time. :D

I've got a question for others who have done this. On the way to work this morning I started the car, used the remote control to disable the fuse which illuminated three dash lights, then I pushed the cars ESC button for a second and then used the remote's other button to enable the fuse which resulted in all the lights turning off so I got a clean dash. I was under the impression that one of those lights should remain?

I think you pushed the button too soon. Wait 4-5 sec.

Looks like I'll need to be a bit more patient. My car does have the EPB and I didn't see that light up.

Ah yes, thank you for jogging my memory! :o

Indeed the 2009 does have a mechanical diff / park breaks and does not suffer from the issue you mentioned.

For the R-Spec, I have to retest but as I recall the solution is very simple, press the remote ON button (/remove the fuse), three lights come on ESC / EBS / ABS, but do NOT press the ESC button AND do not press remote OFF (/reinsert fuse)......

Voilà, you can do all the donuts you like and since the ABS and EBS are disabled during that time (i.e. the electronic LSD can not use the EBS), there should be no ill effects to your brake pads and rotors with the exception to perhaps your tires!!!... (keeping in mind in this mode, other bits will also be disabled, the speedometer for example).

I am pretty sure that is how I got around it last summer, but again I to verify unless someone else (with better weather conditions) beats me to it! ;)

Not unless you have a very good 275 summer rear tires nicely warmed up, with the ability feather the throttle to the max, all the while pushing the traction manually to limits of that particular tire set..
Otherwise you just sit there burning rubber with lots and lots of smoke.. :D

So...figured I'd check in with my results. I didn't get a chance to survey my work as it was in my best interest to leave as soon as possible but those suckers spun and kept spinning until I let off the throttle. The rear was definitely dancing around behind me too.

Didn't see this post before, no I would/should not need to put in the mechanical brake pedal because the rear diff is not attached to the brakes in any way, because of the independent rear suspension the rear diff is connected via cv axles to the hubs/wheels. Also I suspect all I would need to do is pull the rear plate off the diff and pull out the carrier and then unbolt the LSD carrier from the 09 and bolt it into place in my Diff thus negating the need to even drop the diff.

IF you pull the esc fuse you make it into a one wheel wonder just as if you do the full mod, the mod does the exact same thing as pulling the fuse, just allows all the functionality of everything except cruise control. Those cars (meaning the R-spec) have more power and so will likely get and keep the second tire spinning as well but not because of any LSD just from sheer wheel spin. I know my 4.6 will do that to a small extent.

Back to the wireless ESC disable mod, it seems that there are at least 4 people who have installed this mod., any feedback? Did everything work ok for you?

I followed the instructions and it was fairly straight forward. I don't recall feeling anything different with regard to throttle response but it works as advertised, esc disabled and lengthy burnouts compared to the factory esc disable/reduce. I don't think I'd ever daily drive the like that though because the loss of abs and traction control can have real implications in causing/preventing accidents/collisions.

No loss of ABS, the abs light turns on when you first hit the button, because its power is drawn through that fuse as well, but when you hit the button to re-insert the fuse the abs light goes out, meaning its back to working.
That being said I too would not run this mod DD my car spins 255/45/18 summer performance tires all the time but at least with the TC the car gets grip and goes with slight spinning, with this mod it will smoke out the street.:p

I whole heartedly agree with both of you...

Perhaps I should have made this aspect a bit clearer in the OP disclaimer section (now you brought it to my attention, I will ask the moderator to modify the disclaimer as follows):

“This mod. should not be activated during normal driving conditions or on any public road, as it removes essential safety measures deemed necessary by the manufacturer.”.

There are other ramification of using this mod. On public roads, for example, heavens forbid, if one is an accident while using this mod. and somehow the insurer discovers you disabled a safty feature, there is potential that they will not pay for that claim.

This is true for most other safety related mods made on any given vehicle. I am sure sure most insurance companies (mine does) have specific clause that prohibits us from moding our cars.

Thank you guys for your feedback, please keep it coming...

That makes sense for the ABS. While traction and stability control are a nuisance during spirited driving, I have experienced their benefits first hand and keep them on. I had an Infiniti G35 years ago and once while moving at a decent rate of speed my hand accidentally nudged the gear selector from D to the manumatic position which defaults to 4th gear and the car started moving forward at an angle until it was corrected by the traction/stability system a half second or so later. I'm fairly certain the trans shifting into 4th locked up the rears.

What is the proper procedure for disabling ESC?
