If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

I called customer car yesterday and was told that the 19" tires on my 3.8 will be Continental ContactPro TX, which has been stated several times above.

3.8 Genesis comes with 18" rims and I believe the tires will be replaced with Michelins on 3.8 models...

I just went outside and looked. I swore I had 19s but you're correct they're 18s. Don't know why I thought they were 19s. [emoji30]

Yikes. Most of the service writers I have known over the years from various manufacturers have been fine to work with, some excellent. Regardless of what they earn. I do know one thing - most service people will react in kind to how they are treated - if you go in looking to settle a score or expecting to be screwed, expect to be treated the same.

He deserved to "be treated the same". No need. Will reap what he sows. They are trained we lie, and are trying to get something over them. Especially when asking them to do their job instead of parrot non responses.

My tires are nitrogen filled .... anyone know if the replacement tires will have nitrogen?

Got a recall notice in the mail today. I ripped it open hoping to read about my new tires. Instead it as about the rear tail lamp.

I'm hoping to get new tires but no news yet.

Same letter yesterday here also however I actually am in no hurry for them to change my tires. They exhibit no flat-spotting or vibration whatsoever and are really nice IMHO. If they give me new tires at the end of summer this would even be better than now. Much rather wear the Hankooks down if they are replacing right? Best of both worlds were if they would just give me the tires and let me keep the Hankooks on but we all know that is not going to happen. :(

Contacted my dealer and he said they haven't been notified of any tire recall yet. Looks like they may be pushing it out to the dealer network in phases. I also checked the government vehicle website via my VIN and nothing. He said I will get a letter in the mail once my car is ready to be serviced if it qualifies...Which brings me to my question. Is it every Hankook tire, or were there just a period where defective ones were made? My car didn't even get to port until April 1, so the tail light defect was already fixed. I wonder if the tires are better on ones produced later?

I do not think this rises to a government tracked or mandated recall, nor is an actual recall due to defects. It would be nice to know if these tires are legitimately defective (safety) or Hyundai simply was responding to a segment who did not take to the characteristics of a wide, sport tire (noise, temporary flat spotting), or Hankook simply was ceasing making the particular size.

I contacted Hyundai America via Contact Us on the myHundai site, about my 2015 Genesis Sedan Ultimate 3.8L, and this is the response I got. Seems like they are saying, Some Hankook not All are to be replaced, and I will receive a letter IF my Genesis is affected!

Hyundai needs to be WAY more transparent on this issue! Why are the tires being replaced and what is the criteria to determine which tires are being replaced and which are not? The way they have handled it so far smacks of a defect coverup!

I'm also still waiting for a notification on the rear light recall - HMA is not inspiring any confidence in the way they are handling these issues. Let's see how they will handle the peeling rear sunroof seals!

I read this as all new cars coming off the assembly line will have either the Contis or the Michelins depending on wheel size.

Looks like they hit a dead end with Hankook and are out for good as a supplier. I believe the only real problem is with the 275's in the rear of the V8 which has caused all the issues and it sure seems like those are ALL part of the campaign. The V6 is still in limbo as they have not officially released any letter stating they will be replacing them on existing cars as there never was a problem with those.

Another clue here is the 275 is discontinued on tire rack so they are not even available any more however the other sizes remain.

Another clue is when the say "Hyundai is aware of a small number of customers. The V8 is sold in small numbers in comparison to the V6.

The only person who has posted an official letter stating they are having the tires replaced has a V8 and the letter says Continentals on pg 2, post# 26. It is not a generic Continental/Michelin notice which basically leaves out the V6.

Putting one and one together makes for a clearer picture of what is happening here or at least by my math which never was stellar.

I think in some cases it might be merely process delay. I just got my recall notice for my rear taillights, despite the fact that my dealer did my recall voluntarily on Mar 31. It also probably takes time to get the production of the replacement tires ramped up and have the dealers stocked.

Aguineas hit the nail on the head.

We can speculate all we want, but until Hyundai publishes a recall notice, it is only speculation.

The only place I personally have seen the V6 mentioned is in the Consumer Reports article. And the reference is only that "affected" V6's will get Michelins.

www.tirerack.com lists exactly the model of Michelins that are now OEM tires.

I agree that everyone who is having problems with flat-spotting should have their tires replaced, but I have seen more than one post of persons saying they are having no problem with the Hankooks.

It gets even more complicated, since the Hankooks are actually manufactured in at least two countries according to TireRack: Korea and Indonesia. Mine are from Korea. Stamped on the sidewall. I have no idea if this has any significance.

Nothing wrong with speculation, but facts are better.

Mine are made in Korea.

I have flat spotting but it doesn't both me as it goes away rather quickly. You state that yours is also made in Korea. Do you have flat spotting?

Mine are the same as yours.

I know what bad flat-spotting is like, and mine is annoying but minor. Having said that, I have only driven in warm Houston weather.

I guess we shall see what plays out.

My wife absolutely loves the car, so we are off to a decent start. It's her car: I am #2 on the seat setting, and her phone has priority on the BT connection.

I know my place.

I would be curious to hear if the OEM tires came from both countries, and if flat-spotting is worse on one country's tire than the other.

ICan I am also number 2 and my wife's phone has the top bunk. Her tires are from Korea as well. I have noticed no flat spotting on this car. But the car we test drove had it, so I know how badly it can intrude on an otherwise good ride. We have 18 inch wheels all around. I don't know if we will be eligible for Michelins, but if we are, I will not be in any hurry to replace these Hankooks.
